"Can you explain this?" asked Xander, throwing the rubber ball up and down.
"I-it-"
"You never know when to stop, do you?"
"No I-"
"I didn't ask for an opinion," he retorted, looking at me with a sharp glance.
"What else did you see inside?"
"Nothing"
"Stop lying"
"I didn't see anything!"
"Do I have to remind you where your sibl-"
"Please don't hurt them," I pleaded. The thought of them made me mad and sad at the same time. How dare he use them as leverage. Hastily, I wiped my eyes when I felt a tear slide down my cheek. Never portray weakness in front your enemy, chanted my brain.
But the damn tears wouldn't stop falling. I sniffled quietly, wiping my wet nose on my sleeve. Seeing this Xander made a disgusted face. He dug his hands into his pockets and threw a handkerchief at my face.
Surprised, I caught the thing before flinging it back at him.
I don't want your trash.
He looked at me with a pointed face before closing his eyes with a deep sigh.
"If I ever find you in that room aga-"
"You have my word, I swear I won't go in there," I said cutting him off.
He gave a small nod in response.
"Also we'll be going out tonight."
I looked at him with surprise but nodded my head without any objection.
What is he up to now?
"Blake will take you and everything you need will be there, don't complain and just let my employees do their job."
"Where am I going?"
"To a beauty parlor."
"Why?" I asked incredulously.
"We need to get you modified, I can't show up at my mother's anniversary with my wife looking like a hobo," he said mockingly, scrutinizing me with a look of disapproval.
Instantly I felt cheeks flush as I gaped at him in surprise, eyes wide in disbelief.
Hobo?
The nerve.
Lucky for him I didn't take insults to heart.
I'm bulletproof.
Besides I look like shit because that's how you treat me! I wanted to say out loud but instead, I took a deep breath and let it go.
There were more pressing matters here than his childish insults. I looked at him with curiosity, thinking about his motives.
"Why can't you take another girl?"
"Because there is no other."
"You just said that I look like a freaking hobo! so get a girl who doesn't look like one."
"I don't have the time."
"I'm your freaking hostage and now you wanna introduce me to your mother as your wife? I thought you said we weren't going to tell anyone!"
"Circumstances change."
"Can you at least tell me why we're doing this?"
"That's none of your business"
"But it is my business! And besides, what are we gonna tell her? where did we meet?how long have we known eac-"
"We will talk about this later."
"Bu-"
"I said later"
I stomped my feet on the ground in frustration before leaving.
...
"So where is this place?"I asked Blake as we stopped at the red light.
"Close" was all he said.
Ever since the trio had returned from wherever the place they went that day something in the atmosphere had definitely shifted. Not that it was any of my business but it felt, weird to see the two brothers act so tense around each other.
I almost felt like asking what was the problem.
Almost.
Then again its none of my business.
Blake was the kind of guy who would try to keep a conversation going. Or the one to break an awkward silence but not the I-don't-wanna-talk-leave-me-alone- kind of guy.
But I guess we all have our moments.
And even though I would probably never say this out loud, his company was appreciated. Staying in that dull house doing absolutely nothing, mark my words it could drive you nuts.
Not being able to handle the silence any longer, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
His eyebrows shot up in surprise before that weird frown fell on his face again.
"Why do you care?"
"I don't" I grumbled. So much for being nice.
After 5 minutes I couldn't handle it anymore. Its true what they say, that silence is the loudest scream of all. And I officially couldn't take it anymore. Taking a deep breath I shot him with another question.
"Did something happen between you and your brother?" If possible his eyebrows furrowed even more.
"That's none of your business."
"Just asking" I muttered putting my hands up in surrender. But surprisingly after a few minutes, he spoke up.
"We had a fight"
Oh.
I nodded my head in response not really knowing what to say.
"You'll kiss and make up in no time," I said with a small smile after a moment.
"If only it was that easy" he murmured letting out a tired yawn. "But thanks anyway," he said looking at me with a small smile.
"Eyes on the road mister!"
"Thanks for the reminder, Xander would kill me if we died in an accident," he said whilst parking the vehicle in front of a bright building.
"But then you would be dead already. How could he kill you?"
"He's Xander, he'll find a way"
I snorted in response to which he responded by raising an eyebrow. Shaking my head, I got out of the car slamming the door shut.
Blake got out and walked up to me glaring.
"Ruby didn't do anything wrong!"
"Who the hell is ruby?" I asked in confusion.
He gave me a classic are-you-kidding-me look in return.
"She's my baby girl."
I internally cringed.
Baby girl? Ew
"What did I do ?"
"You hurt her!"
"You're not making any sense! Who the hell is ruby?!"
"My car!"
With a grunt, I pushed passed him and entered the building through the sliding doors.
Blake gestured me to follow and led me to the receptionist's desk. The redhead was looking down on her lap, highly focused on something and didn't know we were standing there.
A minute or two passed and she still didn't notice us. Getting a bit impatient Blake cleared his throat but still, she didn't look up.
He glanced at me with a help-me-out face to which I just shrugged.
Not my concern.
"Chelsea,"
"Chelsea" he called out again. Rolling my eyes I went and sat down on a chair nearby. This guy was either stupid or blind.
Can't he see her earphones?
Usually, I would be the one to help people. But since I'm here unwillingly, I decided to just sit back and watch how this went down.
"You're lucky you're a female."
"I could sue you for this"
"Are you ignoring your client?"
I giggled to myself watching him calling her out. The lady on the desk still had no idea. And since the table was a bit tall she couldn't see him with her head down.
"Bitch are you deaf?"
"Who you calling bitch?" she answered looking up with a glare.
This is going to be lit
"I was talking to you you ignorant oaf, you don't waste people's time like that. You don't get paid to keep your head down and watch porn. Do you-"
"I wasn't watching porn!" exclaimed the enraged woman who was now turning red.
"Then what was it? Animal Planet? Cartoon Network? National geogr-"
"Its none of your business" She snapped in rage.
Somebody's getting a taste of his own medicine...
"It is my business when you waste my time! do your frigging job properly!"
"Don't tell me what to do you mutt!" she said throwing a paper ball at him.
"Well then I'll let Xander kno-"
"Xander sent you here?" she asked with her eyes wide as saucers.
"Yes, now I'll go tell h-"
"Wait wait wait are you Thea Sanderson?" she said looking at my direction
"The one and only."
"Oh god I'm so sorry, please follow me ma'am," she said getting to her feet swiftly, moving towards me but not before walking up to Blake and apologizing.
"Please don't tell him I-I can't lose this job I-I'm so sor-"
"Chill I won't tell him lady just do your job properly, okay? "
She nodded fervently before gesturing us to follow her.
