Ozpin

AU: You have a piece of jewellery or trinket that is identical to your soulmate's.

You don't remember when you had gotten your pocket watch, nor do your parents. It had always just been there. But that was the way of the soulmate piece. One day this pocket watch would show you your soulmate, you knew that all you had to do was look for that silver chain.

As a kid when everyone would show off their necklaces rings and cute keychains, you would keep your pocket watch in your pocket; the only thing showing was the shiny chain. You would just ignore the huddle groups of excited teens that dreamed of their soulmate. You had never seen anyone with a pocket watch, which was weird. You thought that it was a pretty convenient and useful item.

For years you studied and trained hard, and after everything you managed to become a Huntress. You used this to search around the continent in search for your soulmate. But now you had lost hope, just wanting to settle down in a small house with a nice garden. So that's exactly what you did.

When you had been accepted for a teaching position you were so ecstatic. You had heard exceptional things about Beacon Academy. You had wished you'd gone to it instead of Shade Academy.

"Well, let's pray that this goes well, huh Hijinks." You smile, talking to the small grey kitten sitting on you kitchen table.

You finish buttering your toast, taking a bite. As you turn around you notice Hijinks trying to push your almost full cup of (coffee/tea) off of the table. You roll your eyes as you finish your toast and grab your cup.

"Nice try."

You quickly drink up and put your cup in the sink. You grab your weapon and strap it to your back before heading off. You really didn't want to be late.

Walking up to the Academy, you let out a huff of surprise, it was a huge place.

"Miss (l/n)?"

You look down to see a blond woman standing in front of you.

"Ah, yes, that's me." You smile.

"I'm Glynda Goodwitch," she introduces herself; "I'll be showing you around today."

"Pleasure to meet you."

You feel really awkward, never good at the whole 'talking to people' thing. You were better at the 'destroying grimm' part.

You follow alongside Glynda, listening to her explain everything and show you how to get around. You just let out mhm and oh yeah every now and again.

"Miss (l/n)."

You were almost spacing out when Glynda's voice snaps you out of it.

"Yes?"

You notice her glancing down at the chain of your pocket watch.

"Oh, this is my soulmate piece." You hum, pulling out the pocket watch.

As time went by you felt more comfortable showing it to people, albeit rarely would you do so. You press the top, allowing it to open up, showing off the silver and green design.

"Hmm, how peculiar." She mumbles.

"Is there something wrong?"

You close the watch and slip it back into your pocket.

"No, it's a nice pocket watch."

"Ah, thank you."

You both continue walking down the hall.

"Well, that's the tour finished with," she speaks up again, "now I'm sure the headmaster will be ready to meet you."

"Sounds grand." You reply nervously.

You silently follow along, not having anything to say. When the large doors of the office it reveals a bright, sunlit room. Sitting at the desk was the headmaster, Ozpin. He looks up from his current paperwork, a brow raised.

"Ozpin, this is the new teacher, (Y/n) (L/n)." Glynda introduces you.

"Nice to meet you." you smile, trying to keep your voice even.

"Likewise," he greets you in reply, getting to his feet, the familiar clinking sound of a small chain rattling in your ears.

You look down at his jacket, where a silver chain hung.

"I see you've noticed." You hear Glynda speak lowly.

You glance over at her, and for the first time that day, you saw the hint of a smile on her face. Your face begins to heat up.

'So that's why she was so interested in the pocket watch.' You think to yourself.

"I'll be leaving you here, (Y/n)."

As another first she used your first name as she left you behind. For just a moment you forgot about the man standing in front of you.

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach here, I'm looking forward to working here."

You felt like you were going to explode; you really didn't want to blow this.

Ozpin laughs at your rigid attitude, "I'm looking forward to seeing you teach, I've heard about your accomplishments on the field."

You grin, "I'm pretty sure I-"

Your words cut off when you notice the details of the chain that hung from, the details identical to your own.

Ozpin noticed your interest in his chain, raising his brow.

"Is there a problem, Miss (l/n)?"

"Oh, um, I do apologise, but is that your soulmate piece?"

Ozpin seems hesitant, before nodding, "it is indeed."

He puts is hand in his pocket, pulling out a pocket watch. The carvings in the lid made you almost forget to breathe. But you slowly move to your pocket. As soon as the chain jingled, Ozpin's eyes widened. You pull out the watch.

"I thought that chain looked familiar." You mumble.

He takes a step forward, a shocked look on his face. You press open the watch and so does he.

"Well, this isn't what I was expecting on my first day," you huff.

You gently close your watch, "you look like you're about to pass out, are you alright?"

"I never thought I'd find you." he voice was low and shaky.

You slip the pocket watch away, and just as you had done so you look back up to see Ozpin teary eyed.

"Whoa, okay, you're not okay," you begin to panic, "did I do so-"

What you weren't expecting was to be pulled into a hugged. Despite the fact that he was your soulmate, you were still strangers. You timidly wrap your arms around him. After a moment you both pull away.

"I do apologise for my actions," Ozpin coughs.

"It's fine, we're soulmates after all."
