Fairy tail: Natsu Dragneel X Reader

Readers pov:

I cracked a smile as I watched my guild-mates down below on the first floor of our guildhall. Loud and rambunctious as ever. But that's what I love about fairy tail.

It was so lively and fun. We really knew how to keep things interesting. There was never a dull moment within these cornered walls. Especially not with a certain pyro maniac.

Though I was watching the scene unfold from the first floor with a smile, I also remained cautious. A fun time can always lead to some sort of fight.

Ice Queen and Salamander really know how to go at it, and then get the others involved. Even if it were completely unintentional.

I tilt my head to the side as a mug was thrown all the way to the second floor. I internally sighed.

And so it begins...

"What was that, Ice Princess!?" The one and only Natsu Dragneel shouted with narrow eyes, butting heads with 'Ice Princess'. Aka Gray Fullbuster.

"Being the Pyro maniac you are, I thought you'd of heard me clearly!" Gray retorted loudly.

"I got the job done, didn't I?!" The pinkette shouted.

"Yeah! And burnt down half the town while you were at it! Ash for brains!" Said the raven haired male, who was suddenly in his boxers.

"Droopy eyes!"

"Squinty eyes!"

"Flame breath!"

"Pervy popsicle!"

The insults between those two just kept on coming, and getting louder. I couldn't help but laugh as I observed from the 'safety' of the second floor.

Natsu can be such an idiotic hothead, but he has such a big heart that completely makes up for it...

Unless of course the master is later indebted to pay for his damages. That kind of puts him in the dragon's cave.

As the polar mages/frenemies fought, I also glanced at the blonde and the albino haired women. Lucy and Lisanna.

Lucy joined the guild a few months back, she's dreamed about joining since forever. Natsu was the one that brought her to us. She's even on Natsu's team.

She's a nice girl, sure she complains about money; or better yet, the lack of, but she's sweet. She's also a celestial mages.

And also very close with Natsu.

As for Lisanna? Well from what I learnt she was Natsu's childhood friend. Her sister Mira and I were pretty close after I joined the guild, so she's told me quite a bit about her.

I joined a year after Lisanna's apparent death. She and him were super close. She had such a huge crush on him. Obviously as kids you wouldn't realize it. But gosh, she didn't make it a secret.

And she clearly still has those feelings after we got her back from Edolas. But with Natsu being Natsu, he doesn't realize it either.

I remember so many times how people said (whether it was a joke or not) how Natsu is too stupid or incapable of being in a relationship or to have feelings for someone.

I never understood why they would think that. Yes, he acts on impulse and doesn't always think rationally. But once his friends and family are involved, he puts more than just his heart into what he does. He cares for everyone, and it's so inspiring. And just like he is to Lucy, he's my best friend...

Or at least he used to be..

Lucy doesn't make it as obvious, but I can tell she has feelings for Natsu, just like Lisanna... just like me...

I have feelings for the impulsive, hotheaded, childish and dense Natsu Dragneel.

But he would never look at me the same way.. not when he's got Lucy and Lisanna.

Natsu brought Lucy into fairy tail, but nothing had changed. We still hung out like we used to... but then he started to go on more jobs with her and happy. Then Gray got dragged along followed by Erza soon enough. And then our time together started to become less and less.

But I didn't make such a big deal about it.

Now his childhood friend and possible childhood crush has returned and now it seems like all Natsu and I ever do anymore is smile and wave.

My smile wouldn't be as bright until he gave me that adorable closed eyed, toothy grin. You can't fake a smile when he looks at you like that. It's impossible.

If he had to ever end up with someone in the future... I'd have to say Lucy.

Yes she yells at him and wants to kick him out of her apartment for wrecking the place and so much more, but she accepts Natsu as he is a lot more than Lisanna does.

Looking at the girls now, Lucy just looks at the scene with an awkward yet gentle smile. Then you have Lisanna who looks shocked and seems to want the fighting to stop. Like she thought or hopes/hoped for Natsu to change or mature over the time she was gone.

I close my eyes as Erza finally gets in between the dispute, knocking them both on the heads, getting them to settle down.

Lucy smiled, trying to cheer up the dragon slayer with his blue companion. While Lisanna faked a laugh.

Natsu pouts, looking so adorkable... but he's looking at her... he's with them.. he doesn't need me... I'll just get in the way... like always.

I press my lips together, taking a deep breath. But just as I do, he looks my way with a blank expression, and my breath gets caught in my throat.

He smiles at me and waved. I close my eyes to hide the pain as I smile right back at him. Waving as I always do now..

But what am I really saying as I do this small gesture??

Am I saying hello??

Or am I saying goodbye to what used to be a friendship I thought would never end?

I open my eyes as the thought runs through my mind, seeing Natsu no longer gazing at me, but laughing with my nonexistent competition to Natsu's heart.

I close my eyes once more as my heart clenched tightly in my chest. I don't think I can stay any longer.

I gulp down the rest of my (favourite drink) that I held in my (main hand), before placing the glass on the counter, and leaving the guildhall.

I look back at the fiery mage with the celestial mage and shapeshifter one last time, before shutting the doors behind me.

I hope that if he ever does choose a girl... that he'll be happy with her and that she'd never hurt him.

3rd person:

Long after the (h/c) girl left, the dragon slayer turned his head once more only too take notice she isn't where she once stood.

He looked around to see that she's no longer in sight. He couldn't even smell her. Actually that wasn't entirely true. There was the faint residue left behind; not a scent that would conclude her presence in the hall.

"Something wrong Natsu?" Happy asked before gnawing on his fish.

"(Y/n) isn't here." The dragon slayer pointed out.

"Oh yeah, she left a while ago." Happy said recalling seeing the (type of mage) exiting the guild.

"You know, it's been a while since we've talked to her." Lucy said in thought.

"What do ya mean? We see her every day." Natsu said not understanding Lucy's statement.

"I don't know man, you kind of left her." Gray said nonchalantly. A certain water mage staring at him in (nearly) all his glory, blood rushing to her face.

Natsu stared at the ice mage incredulously. "What?! Did not!"

Erza remained silent while Gray stared at the fire mage unblinking. Even happy remained quiet. No longer eating his fish.

"You too?" Natsu asked his little buddy in disbelief, but got no verbal answer.

Both the other females weren't on the same page. Tilting their heads to the side or having a confused or puzzled look on their face.

"Am I missing something? Cuz I don't remember you and (Y/n) being so close." Lucy said in sincere and honest confusion.

"I didn't even know they talked." Lisanna added on. "I mean I see a wave here and there, but that's about it."

"That's.. not true." Natsu said doubting himself.

Did he really stop talking to (Y/n) that it's changed their relationship? To the point where they barely talk?

Now that he thinks about it, he doesn't really remember the last time they went on a job together... the last time they actually talked. That caused a pit of guilt to form in his stomach.

How could he just stop talking to (Y/n)??

Flashback

"Hey Natsu!!" The (h/c) girl said brightly as she jumped onto the males back.

With his hearing, he wasn't startled. Laughing along with her, mirroring her smile.

"Ooooh they like each other!" The blue ball of fur teased.

The female rolled her eyes while the male just grinned, chuckling through his teeth.

"We're friends happy!"

"Best friends!" The girl agreed with a smile, wrapping her arms tighter around his neck.

"Alright, get off."

"Never!" She giggled melodiously.

Flashback

"Hey (nick name)!" Natsu called enthusiastically as he rushed over to the request board.

"Hey pyro." She chimed with a gentle smile, turning from the requests.

"Going on a job again?"

"Well my apartment won't pay rent itself." She joked, punching his arm lightly.

"Can Happy and I come with?" He asked with the puppy eyes when she was ready to decline.

She had to cave. Mentally sighing, but was more than happy to have him along. Not answering him directly.

"Can you eat flames any time of day?" Managing to put the pieces together and not be totally clueless or confused, Natsu punched the air with his fist, excited to go on another job.

Flashback

"Happy birthday Natsu." (Y/n) said once more as the day came to an end.

The pair were sitting atop of Natsu's self constructed home, watching the sunset after a long day at the guild, having one of the infamous Fairy tail parties.

Before she jumped off the roof, she kissed his check and then darted off. Not seeing the rose colour that appeared on the dragon slayers cheeks.

Flashback

"Hey Natsu, I'm about to go on a job. You interested??" The (h/c) asked curiously. Holding out the paper in both her hands.

"Sorry (Y/n), I'm already going on a job with Luce. Maybe next time?"

She smiled, nodding. "No problem!"

That's all that was said before he ran off to meet with the blonde and his blue feline pal.

'That's what you said last time...'

Flashback

Natsu was hanging out with his team during another one of fairy tails parties that HADN'T yet gone off the rails. Along with him was Lisanna and Mira.

(Y/n) had seen him with the others and put a smile on her face, hoping that it was as convincing as all the others.

"Hey (Y/n)!" Natsu greeted as she walked by with a drink.

She said 'Hey' and moved on. Walking up to Cana, getting a refill.

'(Y/n)? When was the last time you called me by my nickname?'

'Luce... Lis..'

End of flashbacks

How could he just stop talking to her? Better yet, why did she stop trying to talk to him? What was so different? What got in the way??

'I need to talk to her!' He thought to himself, determined to fix his mistake(s).

"Natsu, where are you going?!" Lisanna called out as he ran from the table, only stoping to answer her.

"To fix my mistake!" And then he was gone.

Once he was out of sight, Gray and Mira looked at each other, each of them with a satisfied smirk across their faces.

Because x_Bxby_Gxrl_x was the first one to comment and try spreading the word, I think I'll make them a 2-shot instead.
