61: X-cludable
Shine actually didn't have much of a plan for after she got the situation under control, but she was not given the chance to come up with one, because only about 3 minutes later, the other X-men returned.
Sabretooth got jumpy then.
"All right," he said, "you'd better let me leave, or I'll--"
"What will you do?" Wally asked.
"I'll kill one of you," Sabretooth said.
"And you will never leave," Shine said flatly. "You lay one claw on any of them, and you'll lose them. I have no wish to harm you, Tony, but if you cannot control yourself, you'll have to be neutralized. Are you going to control yourself?"
"B----," Sabretooth growled.
"That's strike one," Wally warned. "You'd better show her some dang respect. She's trying to help you, you big, hairy idiot."
"Wally." Shine choked on a laugh.
"What? I can say it," Wally said.
"But Mother expressed this concern," Kurt tried to speak, "about--"
"Shh," Morph said. He was just smart enough to realize Sabretooth might get ideas if Kurt said that.
Right then, Storm came into the room.
"Logan, did you know the back door was open?--" She stopped. "Sabretooth."
"I don't remember which one that is," Sabretooth said. "But if she's gonna be a girl about it, she should just go away."
Storm's eyes turned white, and the air seem to crackle. "Perhaps I should remind you who I am."
"Storm, it's fine." Shine waved her off. "We're having a civil meeting. Tony is just here for revenge, that's all. We're working it out."
"Tony?" Storm said. "Revenge? Shine...you haven't had a nervous break down, have you? I thought no one could take this kind of pressure forever, but that's no reason to just throw all caution to the wind, is it?"
"Yeah, honey, you're young," Wally said. "You can bounce back."
Shine kicked him lightly.
"I'm fine, Storm," she said.
"Storm, who are you talking to?" Scott called. "There's a strange car out front."
He walked in. "If it's a door-to-door salesman, I've told Logan never to let them in..." He stopped now.
"I let him in," Shine said helpfully. "Sorry. But in my defense, he has been in before, so how was I to know?"
"What is he doing here!?" Scott exploded.
"This is never going to work," Wally said. "We should just take him away."
"Yeah, I think so," Shine said. "It's just a temptation anyway."
"Now wait," Sabretooth said. "I don't want to go anywhere till I get what I came for."
"Plastic surgery?" Logan offered.
Wally started laughing. "I've gotta remember that one..."
Then he saw Shine's look.
"I mean, uh, Logan, take it easy," he said.
"How easy can I take it?" Logan demanded.
"This couldn't have come at a worse time," Scott said. "We have a situation already. We got a call from Dr. MacTaggert on our way back. Likstar, West, you are not going to play your little game with Sabretooth right now. We have to go to Muir Island...and...well, as much as it pains me to say it, the Professor had thought you might be able to assist us on this."
"On an actual mission?" Wally said.
"It's more like a friend's need," Scott said.
"What's wrong with Moira?" Morph asked.
"It's not her exactly," Scott said. "Something else...I prefer not to say in present company."
"Well, la de da," Sabretooth said. "I came here, and I was promised help, so they're just going to have to decline."
"Uh, what makes you think you can tell us what to do?" Wally said.
"Are you people of your word?" Sabretooth said. "Or is some crazy doctor more important than old Sabretooth? Seems like you're picking favorites."
"That is not fair," Kurt said. "And very manipulative, if I say so myself."
"Yeah, kind of impressive," Mystique muttered from where she was still listening.
"What kind of help could they give you?" Scott scoffed. "Unless you're interested in people who peddle religion and old books."
Shine and Wally turned to give him scathing glares.
Then Wally turned to her. "Hey, I say we just help Sabretooth. At least his claws are out where we can see them."
"Yeah, I'd have to agree," Shine said.
"Wait, you can't do that!" Scott said. "Who's house do you live in? If we have need of assistance, you can't just decline. You're no better than Wolverine."
"Hey!" Logan said.
"We'll see you later, Scott." Shine got to her feet. "When you're ready to apologize for the extremely hurtful things you've just said to us."
"Is your pride really more important than helping someone?" Scott said.
"Is yours?!" Shine snapped, so angrily that Scott stepped back.
"Yeah!" Wally echoed. "Come on, baby, let's go. You too, Tony, even though you're just kind of neutral at this point."
Sabretooth wasn't sure what was going on, but he got up.
"Wait!" Mystique called, stumbling down the stairs. "If you're going, you'd better take me."
"What?" Shine said.
"You think I'm staying here with them?" Mystique said. "Either you bring me, or I swear I'll walk out of here the first chance I get!"
Why did she look so scared?
"Okay, okay," Shine said. "You can join us, I guess. Technically it is our job, right?"
"Wait just a minute," Scott began.
"Oh, Scott," Logan said, "if you're not gonna start apologizin', then...
. Hey, I'll go with ya."
"You will?" Wally said.
"Well, clearly, I'm not needed." Logan gave Scott a glare. "And I can't be trusted, so I might as well. And Sabretooth is my problem. Someone has to watch 'im."
"You can't come," Sabretooth said, "--where we're going." 'Cause he really didn't know.
"All right, Logan, if you want," Shine agreed. "Anyone else?"
"Uh...vell..." Kurt said, "I... Is this the visest decision?"
"We go where we're called," Shine said.
"Excuse me," Storm interrupted, "but, if I may...I know that Scott offended you, but don't you think this is a little immature? We need help--he's not lying... Come on, please, don't go."
Shine and Wally sighed.
"It's not up to us," Wally said. "It's kind of just...how it's received, you know?"
"The wind goes where it will," Shine said. "Either you follow it, or it passes you by." She gestured widely. "You can't control it. I am sorry, Ororo."
Storm didn't understand.
"We'll see you all when we finish up, okay?" Wally said. "Don't wait up or anything."
"You do this and people may die," Scott said. "They may be damaged severely. Can you be this selfish?"
"I wonder that you do not ask yourself that," Shine said. "A change of heart on your part, Scott, would rectify all of this. Let's go."
She opened a doorway.
Sabretooth didn't know what it was, but Wally shoved him through it anyway, and the others just walked through.
Kurt hesitated, but then he sighed and followed.
The other X-men were left alone.
They all glared at Scott.
"What? They were clearly in the wrong," Scott said. "They should know command decisions take precedence over their pet projects...and they let him in without our permission and were just sitting there drinking tea."
"Notably, they had him cooperating," Hank said. "I wonder how they managed that."
"Oh...it was a show," Morph said.
"And you did nothing to stop them?" Scott said.
"What could I have done?" Morph said. "Why are you so hard on them? They were just trying to pacify him. Maybe it would have worked. Now you've made them all mad. Why didn't you just ask nicely?"
"I shouldn't have to ask nicely," Scott said. "The same as with Logan, it should just be a given."
"Is that really fair, Scott?" Storm said coldly. "You haven't treated them as part of the team. Why should they feel obligated to follow orders?"
"They agreed to," Scott said.
"You know, just because you're in charge doesn't mean you have to be a jerk," Jubilee spoke up hotly. "Who wants to listen to someone like that? Maybe they'll just up and quit."
"Well...and what about you two?" Scott turned to Rogue and Gambit.
Rogue's whole expression said that was not the wisest thing to ask her.
"About me?" she said. "I gotta say, I don't know why you bring a gun to a fight if you're just gonna shoot yourself in the foot with it."
The metaphor was quite fitting.
"And Gambit think dat you have funny way of asking for help," Gambit said.
"What was I supposed to do? They had an enemy of ours sitting in the living room!" Scott said.
"But he was not wreckin' our stuff," Rogue said. "That's somethin', ain't it? Why'd you rush to blame 'em? It probably wasn't even their fault."
"Yeah, it wasn't," Morph echoed.
"What was I supposed to think?" Scott said.
"Funny thing about that, Scott," Rogue said, "what you're supposed to do is usually try to be fair, not just jump on people over stuff you ain't sure of. I'd have stormed out of the room too."
"They might have a point..." Jean said meekly "I'm sure it was upsetting, Scott, but...we should be gentler with our friends sometimes."
Scott wasn't sure how to take everyone siding against him.
"Everyone," Xavier called, interrupting, "I'm afraid there's not a moment to lose. Did you secure their assistance?"
"Maybe you had better jus' tell him," Gambit said to Scott, not very nicely.
"You know, you guys go on. I'll catch up," Rogue said. "Maybe I can talk 'em into comin' back after they've cooled off." She flew out the front door.
"Rogue, do you know where dey gone?" Gambit called.
But she was already gone.
* * *
Shine, in fact, had just taken them outside Manhattan.
"Are ya really sure?" Logan said. "It sounded important, whatever it was."
"And we're sure it is," Shine said, "but there are things we just cannot do. No one should bite the hand they are asking to feed them. And he insulted our whole ministry also... I'm sorry, Logan, but don't you understand? When you do that, you cut off any ability to reap the benefits of it."
"I thought ya were supposed to help no matter what," Logan said.
"Nope," Wally said. "It's help whoever asks, no matter what they've done, not no matter what their attitude is. What's the use of helping someone who's just gonna criticize you for it anyway?"
"The X-men are snobs," Sabretooth agreed. "I'd almost be inclined to let you off just for that."
"Who do you think is letting who off?" Shine said. "If you want to go, go." She pointed at the street. "If you'd like to be born again, then stay. No one's making you do either."
Mystique looked a little woozy from the portal.
"Can I sit down?" she said in a flat voice.
"Of course," Shine said. "I think that's a bench right on the corner."
Mystique shifted into a normal-looking form, and Shine helped her to it.
"Still, I don't like leavin' the others in the lurch..." Logan said.
"But...don't you do that a lot?" Wally said.
"Well, not right in the middle of it...usually," Logan said.
"I never thought Wolverine would be buying into all this," Sabretooth remarked. "Did you get saved?"
Wolverine glared at him. "What's it to you?"
Shine sighed. "I wonder at times, Logan."
"Wonder what?" Logan said.
"Have you ever really let this speak to you?" Shine asked. "It's one thing to want peace and happiness and to want to believe God offers us forgiveness and comfort...but if that love does not get inside you and start to change you, it's nothing. All the faith in God's power in the world won't help you, as 1 Corinthians 13 so eloquently states. All the do-gooding is nothing without true, unconditional love."
"I just don't understand what ya mean by that," Logan said.
"I know you don't," Shine said. "And that is why you fail, so often." She put her hands together. "You know, that Love does not keep a record of wrongs; it does not boast; it does not think evil of anyone; it believes all things, and hopes for all things. And it never fails. It is never inaccurate. Knowing the future, as we sort of do, sometimes fails us. Having all the abilities we do, they do not always work, and having insight is only part of the picture. But love is complete; it cannot be altered, it cannot be too little or too much. Love and mercy are tied tightly together."
Logan stared at her. "And...what's yer point?"
"Can you love your enemies?" Shine said meaningfully.
"Yeah, 'do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who despitefully use you.' " Wally knew that passage pretty well.
"That sounds crazy," Logan said.
"I know," Shine said. "Fools for Christ, that is what we are... Logan, we have been willing to put up with a lot from you, and all the others, since we arrived, knowing that you were mostly ignorant doing it, but it is getting past the point where that can be an excuse anymore. If you know what you ought to do, and you do not do it, to you it is sin. Just as if you did something evil on purpose. This is a rare opportunity for you, right now." She glanced at Sabretooth. "If you let it be."
Logan frowned.
Then he lowered his voice. "Even if I wanted to, I can't."
"Of course not," Kurt spoke up. "Gott is the one who makes us able to do this."
"He is exactly right," Shine said. "Like in the book I gave you. Just...ask, Logan. Asking is the first step of faith. Even if you have no faith, ask for faith. 'Lord, I believe, help my unbelief', remember? And then, just do whatever you feel you need to do."
She turned to Sabretooth now, who was not quite able to make out what they'd said but was still suspicious of it.
"If you're not sure what to do yet, then perhaps we'd better leave it aside. We have to get to Muir Island."
"But...I thought you said..." Mystique spoke.
"Oh, we're not going to help Scott," Shine said, salty. "We're going because, if there's trouble there, it could be real bad for everyone. And if there is a problem, we'd like to help. Don't you agree, Wally?"
"I was actually going to say the same thing," Wally said. "So I'm glad we're agreeing on it right off."
"But we can't really work with the others," Shine said. "So it will be just us, Kurt, and you, Logan... Mystique, you can stay or go. It's up to you."
Mystique glanced at Sabretooth, then she said, "I'll go with you. I have no better options."
"You ain't just leaving me hear after all that," Sabretooth said.
"If you want to help, feel free," Shine said. "Or you can just go on your way."
"Hey, he'd betray us as soon as help us!" Logan said.
Wally frowned at him.
Logan bit his tongue.
"On the other hand, you can't have all the fun." Sabretooth must have just wanted to goad Logan. "If there's a fight involved, why not?"
"All right," Shine said. "But...how to get there? I've never been. Wally, it could take you an hour to find it."
"I might be able to help you there, Sugar." Rogue suddenly alit on the ground in front of them. "I heard that last part... I knew you wouldn't actually leave us hangin'. You sure do like to make a scene."
"I guess we're kind of alike that way." Shine shrugged. "Well, Rogue, you want to lead the way?"
"Be happy to," Rogue said. "I can't wait to see the look on Cyclops' face... Uh, I mean that in a good way."
"I just hope he doesn't see us at all." Wally was still miffed. "Wouldn't want him to think we're just peddling our religion."
* * *
Storm was not quite easy about going to Muir Island without the two DJs...and without Wolverine.
But Xavier and Hank said it might be for the best Logan would not be joining them.
"Moira told us the trouble is with her son, again," Xavier said. "He was doing so well. I do not understand. Apparently he's been having episodes of some kind of panic or terror. She is afraid he is going to break free again."
"He could at any time," Hank said. "But it is very odd, after all his progress. Did she say if he gave a reason?"
"No, she was very distraught. She could barely explain that much," Xavier said. "And then we lost connection, as you all heard."
"From what you told us about Kevin," Scott said, "Jean and you would probably be the most effective."
"Yes...but Moira has other patients," Xavier said. "I want the rest of you to keep them safe. They are all mutants, ones who've sought her help for their many scars from mistreatment or misuse of their powers."
"Well, at least I can say hi to my old friends," Morph commented nervously. "I wonder how Angel is doing."
[This is entirely made up but makes perfect sense when you think about it. What better candidate for their treatment, considering what Apocalypse did to him on the show?]
"Oh, is he there?" Jean said.
"Yeah..." Morph said. "Something about being brainwashed... He was doing better when I left, probably set to go soon."
"You can thank Mystique for that bit of trouble," Scott said, sourly. "Could have been Rogue."
No one liked being reminded of that.
"Worthington is a nice man," Jean said, "deep down...but he was real troubled about Apocalypse... I hope Moira helped him."
"We all can hope dat." Gambit didn't like Angel much--thought the guy was a little unhinged, even without Apocalypse.
[Sources vary on that.]
"Why would Mystique even work for Apocalypse?" Morph wondered aloud. "Isn't that like shooting yourself in the foot?"
"Why does she do anything?" Gambit muttered.
"If you ask me, the only good thing about those two upstarts leaving is that they took her with them," Scott muttered.
Storm thought if Shine had been there, she would have offered both an explanation for Mystique's actions and for her own... She wished they had listened to her.
"I just can't believe Logan went with them," Scott said. "I mean, even if he usually does, at such a moment didn't he know it was serious?"
"Maybe once he heard Muir Island, he'd heard enough," Hank said.
Scott buzzed at Rogue.
"Rogue? Enough scouting around. If you haven't found them yet, just rendezvous with us at the island... Do you copy?"
A pause, before Rogue answered, "Yeah, I'll head there... Don't have too much fun without me..."
Storm noted she didn't say whether she'd found them or not. That was a little odd for Rogue. She usually stated things up front.
"Mind if I ask," Rogue continued after a pause, "what are we lookin' at here? Is it one of the patients or...that kid?"
"I'm afraid it is Kevin MacTaggert again," Hank said. "Though not as pronounced as before. We are hoping to get there in time to prevent a repeat of the past."
* * *
Rogue was just landing on the island when she heard this, and she stopped short.
"It's Kevin?" she said. She'd been afraid of this.
Wally had been running right behind her.
"Whew," he said. "This island is smaller than I thought...almost could miss it. Doesn't help that in my world it's not here at all... Be right back."
"West, wait!" Rogue began, but he was gone already.
A moment later he was back, and then Shine was portalling everyone else there.
Rogue bit her lip. "Can I...uh, have a word, Shine, Wally?"
"What is it?" Sabretooth said. "Some secret?"
"Ain't nothing that concerns you," Rogue said snippily.
Sabretooth glared. "Maybe I should decide that."
"I'm sure it's personal," Shine said. "Let it go, Sabretooth. Do you really want to listen to girl talk?"
Sabretooth made an appropriately disgusted face.
Mystique still edged away from him, wincing.
Shine and Wally stepped aside a little.
Rogue spoke low anyhow. Logan had pretty keen hearing.
"Before we get any further in this hootiner," she said, "you ought to know, we ain't up against any normal bad guy. There's trouble with Kevin, Moira's son...and...uh, Logan's kinda scared a' him."
"Who's Kevin?" Wally asked.
"Isn't he...the kid?" Shine asked vaguely. "Ah, he's not in the movies."
"In...movies?" Rogue said.
"So what does he do?" Wally asked.
"It's...kind of like what Ace did, that girl the Joker had," Shine said. "Though it was Cadmus who created her."
Wally suddenly looked really freaked out. "What?"
"Only, Kevin could actually warp reality," Shine said. "Not just in the mind."
"And he can possess people," Rogue said. "Or...phase into them--I dunno exactly. He's really powerful. But he's not a bad kid, y'know. Only he gets upset."
"So he can make you crazy?" Wally said, still freaked out.
"Well...not exactly," Rogue said. "Though I guess you could go crazy if it was too much... Logan almost did."
She wasn't making Wally feel better.
"Uh...Shine, are we really qualified for this?" he said.
Shine looked very somber. "So how bad is it?"
"I dunno. I didn't ask yet," Rogue said. "Hank said it wasn't too bad yet compared to last time, but that could change real quick. If you two want to sit this one out, I can't blame ya. And Logan might too... The other two wouldn't get anywhere near it, I think. We gotta hurry though."
Wally shook his head. "I really don't know... I'm not sure I can...against something like that? All I got is speed."
"Wally." Shine took his hand. "We have more than that."
Wally still looked concerned. "I don't know, Shine... We can't do everything."
"But we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us," Shine said.
"That verse is about suffering, not trying to do nutty stuff to fight people who can change reality," Wally snapped.
"No one can change reality, Wally," Shine said. "They can only twist it into something else or make some that is not real appear. Reality is the same, always."
"You ain't never seen his power," Rogue said. "He made mini-mes, freakiest durn thing I ever saw."
"Really, Rogue? That's the freakiest thing you've ever seen?" Shine said skeptically.
"Well, it weren't nice!" Rogue snapped.
"Shine, you can't go in there!" Wally pointed at the castle in the distance. "What if he...? I don't know--what does he do?"
"Well, he tore Logan into pieces..." Rogue was really the Queen of not helping in this instant.
"What?" Wally said. "Shine, you could never survive that! You can't go in there."
"But if you won't," Shine said, "and I will, then what else is there to say?"
Rogue had never seen Wally so close to panicking.
"Shine, I'm serious, I can't let you do that."
"Let me!?" Shine's eyes darkened.
"Yeah, I mean, it's crazy," Wally said. "Maybe there's a reason we weren't supposed to be here, huh? Scott was an ass about it anyway. Maybe it's time to just let the X-men handle it--they have before."
"What is goin' on?" Logan came up.
"Logan!" Shine said.
"I got tired of waitin'," Logan said.
He noted how scared they were.
"It's that kid again, isn't it?" he said. "No way there's anythin' else ya'd not tell me."
Rogue bit her lip. "Logan," she tried to say gently.
"No!" Logan said. "Ya think I'm scared?!"
He looked scared.
"We took 'im down once before," he said.
"Barely..." Rogue muttered.
"Back me up," Wally said to Logan. "We can't go in there... Even if you could survive that because of your powers, Shine can't. And I don't know if I can either. I might be able to...but I've never been great at resisting that kind of stuff either."
"If ya don't want to risk it, no one's making ya," Logan said, which showed he was way more unsure of it than he let on, because Logan normally would have called someone a coward for backing out of a fight.
"It may not be that bad," Rogue said. "I think he's just upset... Scott wanted you to to help... I bet it was because ya helped me. I mean, the facts are what they are--you two get results."
"If even Scott is admitting that," Shine said, "or at least, passing on Xavier admitting it...then how unsure are they that they can do this?"
"Xavier barely did it before," Logan said. "So pretty unsure."
He grew his claws. "Might as well go down tryin'."
"Logan, you really don't hafta," Rogue said. "Ain't no one gonna call you chicken. He did somethin' awful bad to you before, didn't he?"
"I'm not scared!" Logan snapped at her loudly.
But Shine's mind had gone somewhere else.
"You know, the others mostly haven't seen his power, save for Hank and the Professor," she said, "so they may not know what they are in for. But can you imagine how damaging that power would be to Storm? With her claustrophobia? And Morph, he's not so balanced even now."
Rogue frowned. "I didn't think of that... Wow, ya think so?"
"Oh, sure," Wally said, wiping his brow. "Claustrophobia...just one of the problems I could see with this...or plunging to your death...or melting..."
"Wally!" Shine said. "Stop. This is no good."
"Shine, are you really never at all afraid?" Wally said, though he knew better.
Shine was stunned...and then she got real quiet, which was about as sure a sign that she was upset as it was in Kurt.
Kurt was watching them all anxiously, even now.
"I'm tired of waiting," Sabretooth said.
Mystique sighed.
Rogue was uncomfortable with the tension.
"You two can have yer lovers quarrel later." Logan was as insensitive as usual. "If we're goin' to help, we'd better move fast. Anyone who has the guts to can go in. I say we leave those two criminals out here. They'd only be in the way."
"But--" Wally began.
"End of discussion," Logan said to him. "I outrank you, kid, as far as X-men go. You decide what ya want to do on yer own."
Shine pursed her lips.
"I'm still going to go in," she said slowly. "I'm sorry, Wally. I would listen to you if it was just a matter of preference...but this is God's work, here. This is what I do. I help people who are in distress. I'm afraid I can't let even you dissuade me...especially out of fear. I do not make decisions based on fear."
"That's...pretty cold." Wally hated himself for saying it, but it seemed to say itself. "To calculate like that...like you don't have any feelings of your own. I think you're pretending you don't."
Rogue thought Shine's whole calm demeanor would break...and she realized suddenly that it was not always as effortless as Shine made it seem--it was a choice, clearly, each time.
But somehow she didn't break down.
"Perhaps," she said, in the exact tone Logan had once heard Storm use under similar circumstances.
He thought to himself, Storm was probably pretty upset also, but she swallowed it the same way.... How did they do it? He'd never been able to control himself like that.
Shine clearly didn't think she could say more than that, and she walked back towards the other three.
"So...we have a situation," she said, slowly, like she was barely keep her tone even. "A very troubled, young boy, Kevin, he seems to be in trouble now.... His powers alter reality, both in the mind and in the material."
Mystique's whole face went a paler shade of blue.
"Oh my," Kurt said.
"It can be very difficult to bear," Shine said. "So if your courage is not up to it, no shame here. No one would want to do this, and I'm not sure what at least two of you could do anyway.... But, Kurt, I think you might actually be one of the only people who could avoid his attacks even a little. If he does go out of control, you could escape. At least it's my theory, so..."
"In that case, I vill come," Kurt said. "But are you sure you should?"
Shine winced. "Well...someone has to, Kurt."
"I thought you were crazy," Sabretooth said. "Now I'm sure of it... Well, you've got guts, I'll give you that, shrimp."
"And somehow that's the most encouraging thing someone has said to me today," Shine said dryly. "I think I might be sick, actually, but nevermind that.... If you're ready, Kurt, it's best not to delay. Who knows when it will be too late."
"And us?" Mystique said.
"Either swim to shore or wait till we're done," Logan said. "Yer choice."
Kurt took Shine and him and Rogue and poofed them most of the way up the hill towards the castle.
Wally stood there for a moment.
Mystique knew she was never going to be able to swim that channel in her condition, and she didn't care to be alone with Sabretooth.
"Are you going?" she asked Wally.
"I really, really don't want to," Wally said.
Mystique thought that would be the end of it, but then he sighed. "But, you know, when you're married, you're gotta stick together, for better or worse, so yeah, I'm going to catch up.... Just need a minute to work up the nerve..." He drew a deep breath.
"I'll go, then," Mystique said. "Not to help, but..." She glanced toward Sabetotoh.
"Ah, gotcha," Wally said. "Sure...I guess you could just wait outside."
He gently picked her up and sped up the hill.
The others were already inside though.
"Drat," Wally said. "I'd better go find them...if reality isn't so warped I can't even run.... Wish me luck."
He dashed away.
"Fool," Mystique muttered. "You're going to need more than luck."
