x You x

You are walking along down a street. On your way to work, school, or home it doesn't matter where. What does matter is what you see as walk. You weren't paying attention at first, then you saw something that entices out of the corner of your eye. A book?

The book looks small, worn, and old. Why does it even matter to you? Nonetheless you bend down to grab from where it sits. It looks like a journal. With an X carved into its leather cover.

You frown a bit, deciding whether to take it or leave it. Someone may come back... Even so you slowly open the front cover to read the first page.

Hello whomever is reading this (mortals I presume).

Mortals? You think confused yet you go on reading.

Right now I'm giving you a simple choice. Put this journal back or keep it. Though there are consequences with each desicion.

If you leave it, it may always tug at the back of your mind. Though if you keep it you will start to see the impossible. You will be sucked into the reality you didn't know existed.

You won't be able to put the book down. As things get stranger. Soon you will see and notice people acting or looking funny but they have always been this way. Your mortal brain just didn't know how to comprehend it.

So now make your choice. Do you take it or leave it?

You stare at the book confused and try to turn to a page in the back but find the book almost glued shut. The book begins to feel warm then hot. You drop the book in surprise. Suddenly red writing appears on page.

I said pick.

You stare at the book in shock. Now a normal person would just leave now. But you can't. You slowly pick the book back up. Your hands shake but you slowly turn the page.

I'm glad you picked to read on.

A flash of regret runs through you and you try to turn the back, but it doesn't budge.

The book feels hot once again and words appear on the page.

It's to late now.

You stare at the book open mouthed and look around but no else seems to notice you or care. Realizing you'll be late you begin to walk faster still reading.

He told me I should keep a journal. Write down everything I could about my life. He said it would help for those mortals of the future. I said no. I thought it was stupid. But I will honor his last wish.
