X chapter three

Harper awoke to hear the echoing sound of half hearted applause, ringing in her ears, eyes snapping open to reveal their blue irises.

The surrounding people were rising from their seats, starting to file out of the hall. Harper rose with them, an air of bemusement upon her.

She snaked out of the hall along with fellow audience members, trying to mirror their expressions of distaste, to look as if she had the faintest clue of what was going on, catching only brief moments of their conversations.

"Testing for traitors she said."

"It's nice to know they have such a high level of trust." The second voice dripped sarcasm.

Harper thought for a moment before realising that they could only mean the government.

But why would the government  be testing for traitors? She wondered. Although informing, these statements only made a dent  in her confusion, regret of her earlier actions starting to sink in.

It became apparent that the exit was growing distant and they were heading to the heart of the building, as opposed to the outside.

From within the mist of the crowd, Harper could just about make out a door, painted a vibrant white which could only mean she was headed to the lab corridor.

She had little experience with the corridor only knowing that it was a corridor filled with entrances to rooms, presumably science related, and was otherwise in the dark as to what lay inside it.

The crowd came to a halt, the faint creak of a door opening could be heard. She braced herself before entering, staring around to what lay before her.
