Chapter Twenty
The man fell still.
A yell had rang through the woods mere moments before, and if he had heard it, Lila had too.
He knew it wouldn't have been Lila that had yelled. It sounded like the person who had yelled, had fallen painfully, and if he knew Lila, she was anything but clumsy.
He came to the conclusion, after being still for a few minutes, that Lila would be on the lookout for the owner of which the yell had belonged. Therefore, it would be wise to keep moving himself.
And if he ran into the yell maker, he gave a grim smile, they would surely not want Lila to be looking for them, so they were provided of a common enemy.

Lila darted off.
Harper did the same.
Harper knew that someone was also in the woods, and that they were attempting to find her. She heard their steps coming, they were at the pace of a run, and Harper knew, that if they carried on at that speed, they would find her, within moments.
Harper had already managed to outrun them once, so perhaps she could do it again.
She had to.
