I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi

"You said you'd stop talking to him!"

"Randy – "

"Jerr, you promised me!"

She frowned. "Look, I know I promised I wouldn't talk to Seth anymore, but honestly, it was a dumb promise." Randy raised his eyebrows, confused. "Randy, you can't go around controlling who I talk to!"

"Like hell I can't."

"It's not your job to tell me who I can talk to," She said. "You're not the boss of me."

"Every time he talks to you, he's flirting with you," Randy pointed out. "I don't want other guys flirting with my girlfriend."

"I've told him to stop," She protested. "It's not my fault he keeps doing it."

"I know it's not your fault," He said. "But it is your fault that you keep talking to him."

"I'm sorry, okay?" She said. "What do you want me to do?"

"I want you to stop talking to him," He said.

"I can't just stop talking to him!" She exclaimed. "Seth and I are friends!"

"Well, you have a choice, Jerr."

"Don't do this, Randy."

"You have to choose," He said. "It's either me or Seth." She frowned, saying nothing. "Is that really what you want? You'd choose that sellout over me?"

"I didn't say anything."

"I know, and that's the problem," Randy said. "I'm your boyfriend. You shouldn't have to think about whether you'd choose me or him."

"Randy, I'm sorry..."

"So you're choosing Seth?"

"I don't know what I'm choosing," She replied. "But I guess... I'm not choosing you."

"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked.

"I'm sorry," She said, sighing. "You're a great guy, Randy, but it's not going to work out. You can't control who I do or don't talk to. I won't let you. That's not how a relationship works. I do hope you find someone you can be happy with. I'm sorry it isn't with me."

Randy just looked at her, silently, then turned around and walked out of the room. She sighed. The room was full of Randy's things, so she was going to find somewhere private to just sit and think, where she wouldn't be reminded of him.

She left the room, walking around backstage until she found some crates at the end of an empty hallway. She sat down, scooted all the way back where she was against a wall, and let the tears slowly slide down her face.

She knew what she wanted in a relationship, and it wasn't what Randy was giving her. She needed to be able to be herself, to talk to whoever she wanted to. She couldn't be controlled.

"Jerr?" She didn't look up, but she recognized Seth's voice. "What are you doing over here?"

She didn't respond. Because she was so far back, her face was covered in shadows. Seth couldn't tell she was crying.

"Oh, so you're ignoring me?" He asked. "Is that what's happening now? What, did Randy tell you to stop talking to me again? God, J, you've gotta – "

"Randy and I broke up," She interrupted him, softly.

"Oh..." He trailed off, unsure what to say. He sat down on the crates and moved to where he was sitting next to her. When she turned to look at him, he realized she was crying. "I'm so sorry."

She shrugged. "I mean, I'm sad about it and all, but I guess it was meant to happen. I couldn't date someone like him."

"What do you mean?" Seth asked. He wrapped an arm around her, and she rested her head on his shoulder.

"He was too controlling," She explained. "He tried telling me who I could talk to, who I couldn't, and I couldn't deal with that. I should be able to talk to whoever I want to."

"I agree," He said. "You need to be able to trust each other in a relationship, or else it'll never work."

"He didn't want me talking to you," She admitted.

"Is he scared that I'll steal you from him?" He asked, smirking.

"I guess..."

"Was he right to be scared?"

She lifted her head and looked at him. "I broke up with Randy. I broke up with him because he wouldn't let me talk to you anymore, and I don't know if I could've done that. I know Randy is – well, was – my boyfriend, but I could probably go days without talking to him. I can't do that with you. I just need to hear your voice every day. I probably sound dumb right now. I just got out of a relationship, but now I'm telling you all of this."

"You don't sound dumb at all," Seth said, shaking his head. "I love our conversations. And I really like you, Jerr. I just don't want to rush things, since you just got out of a relationship."

She didn't say anything at first, but then she began slowly moving closer to him. He didn't try to stop her, and soon her lips were on his. Before they could go any farther, Seth stopped.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" He asked.

"Definitely," She said.

"Then I'm ready, too," He responded, smiling. He paused. "Just...not right now. I have a match."

She laughed. "Then go! I can wait."

Seth stood up, and she scooted to the edge of the crates, her feet dangling off of them.

"I'm winning this match for you," He said, backing away slowly.

She smiled. "I'll be cheering for you."

"How does it feel to be dating the champ?" He asked, smirking.

She rolled her eyes. "Just go, Seth."

He chuckled before turning around and walking away.
