Cheerleader [TJ Perkins + Summer Rae]

I used TJ/Summer as an example in the very first chapter of this book, so I figured I'd go ahead and write about them haha

I'm using the version of this song by Pentatonix because I love it lots.

Cheerleader - Pentatonix (OMI Cover)

"The following match is scheduled for one fall, and is for the Cruiserweight Championship!"

Summer Rae stood backstage at Hell in a Cell. While she did not have a match that night, TJ Perkins did, and would be defending his title.

TJ had quickly become one of her best friends over the past few weeks, and she was anxiously waiting for this match to start, as she had no idea how it would end.

"Introducing first, from Venice, California: Brian Kendrick!"

Summer could tell that someone was standing next to her, and when she looked over, it was Renee Young.

"You seem nervous," Renee said, looking at her friend.

"I am," Summer admitted.

"Why?" She asked. "You're not even in the match."

"I know," Summer said, frowning. "But, what if TJ loses? He hasn't even had the title for that long."

"TJ will be fine," She assured her.

"Yeah, okay..."

"And his opponent, from Los Angeles, California: the Cruiserweight Champion, TJ Perkins!"

"Why do you care so much, anyway?" Renee asked, as both women watched TJ come out.

"What do you mean?" She glanced at Renee, but quickly brought her gaze back to the screen in front of them.

"When you were someone's manager, you didn't care this much," Renee explained. "You weren't so invested in their matches."

"This is a title match," Summer said, and even as she said it, she knew that wasn't the only reason.

Renee knew, too, because she simply smirked and watched the match.

The match went back and forth for the most part.

When Brian Kendrick was able to lock in his submission - the Captain's Hook - on TJ, Summer held her breath, waiting for him to get out of it.

He didn't.

"The winner, and the new Cruiserweight Champion: Brian Kendrick!"

Summer didn't look away from the screen until TJ had arrived backstage. Renee had left, probably to interview Brian.

"You lost," She said. "I'm sorry."

TJ shrugged. "I can't win them all."

"I know," Summer replied. "I just wish you were still champion."

"Brian gets a turn with it now," He said, and she knew that was true. Regardless of what was happening on TV, Brian and TJ were still close.

"I guess." She looked down, avoiding his gaze.

"Hey." She looked back up at him, and he smiled. "I'm only getting started. I'll win the title again, at a later time. But for now, cheer up."

Summer pouted. "I just wish you could be champion forever."

"That's not possible," He said, amused by both her face and statement. "I'm going to die at some point. They can't just let a dead body hold a title."

"Why not?" She was smiling now.

"I can't defend it if I'm dead," He said.

She laughed. "Fair enough. I'll just wait for you to win it back.  Later, of course."

"Aw, looks like Perkins has himself a cheerleader," Brian said, presumably having just finished his interview. The purple title was slung over his shoulder, and he was smirking at his friend.

TJ's cheeks turned red, and Summer quickly covered the smile taking over her face with her hand. She didn't want to draw Brian's attention to him.

"I don't see you with a cheerleader," She told the champion. "So I'd say TJ is pretty lucky."

Brian didn't say anything at first. Then, he looked at TJ and said, "She's a keeper."

Brian walked away after that.

"I guess I have his approval," She stated.

"He's just jealous he doesn't have a cheerleader of his own," TJ replied.

Summer grinned.

"Oh, I think that I've found myself a cheerleader. She is always right there when I need her."
