Chapter Thirty-Five: A Realization
That night, the siblings sleep peacefully in each other's arms. (Y/N) didn't have a nightmare, but Shoto..he did. He dreamt that (Y/N) was taken again, but this time..by a shadowy figure, just like the one his sister described. He watches as his sister is pulled away from the imposter, but the imposter looks..so much more like his real sister. He recognizes the look in her eyes. It's the look that (Y/N) had when she first saw Katsuki again on the first day of UA.
The look of pure anger and resentment.
He sits up in (Y/N)'s bed. His sister moves beside him, but she's thankfully still asleep. He grabs at his chest suddenly as a painful spike hits him. When he takes his hand of, engraved the color (F/C) is a sentence. 'Why didn't you save me from him?' is what it says. Shoto's eyes squint. He doesn't understand what it means. He's always saved any civilians in distress, and he nearly died trying to save (Y/N) from herself. Who didn't he save? He lays back down and stares up at the ceiling absentmindedly, going through his memories until he falls asleep to the sound of his sister's level breathing.
In the morning, the siblings arrive together at school. When they enter the class, (Y/N) notices Midoryia's pained face. A thought hits her, does the class even know that she's awake? As the sliding door opens to reveal Shoto and his sister, 1-A snaps their necks towards them. When their eyes are met with (Y/N)'s, Midoryia nearly falls over the desks to run and hug her, as does Kirishima and Katsuki.
The three boys envelop her in a hug, while Katsuki smacks the (H/C)-haired girl over the head, "You scared us, you idiot!" He says, "We thought you were gone for good."
"A little quirk problem can't kill me." (Y/N) replies, "I'm fine."
Midoryia cries on his friend's shoulder, tightly hugging her waist. Kirishima does the same, but he has to wrap his arm around Midoryia and (Y/N) to do so.
"Why do you keep hurting yourself, (Y/N)?" Midoryia asks, sniffing, "It's scaring me when you get hurt.."
"Izu-chan, I'm okay now." the girl replies, "I can get the hang of this quirk before you know it!"
The green-haired boy slowly nods and pulls away from the hug. Kirishima, on the other hand, continues to hug (Y/N). Although Katsuki won't show it, he and Kirishima were the most terrified, other than Shoto about (Y/N)'s condition. They love her, and they wouldn't be able to survive without her.
"Dammit (Y/N)," the red-haired boy mutters, burying his head in the crook of the girl's neck, "I thought I was gonna lose you."
The girl giggles, hugging the boy back, "You aren't, I promise."
When the two pull away, (Y/N) thinks that the hugs are over, but instead, Uraraka and the rest of the girls in class 1-A nearly throw the girl to the ground. Aizawa soon walks into the classroom and everyone rushes to their assigned seats.
"Today, since (Y/N) is finally awake, we're going to have another small test to see how your abilities are improving." the teacher says, as he opens his mouth to continue, Kirishima interupts.
"You realize (Y/N) almost died last time, right?" He asks, "Are you trying to endanger your student?"
"She's not my student here anymore, Kirishima." Aizawa responds, "She's the number one hero. If she can't improve, then how is she our Symbol of Peace?"
Everyone turns to the girl, expecting her to reply, but she only nods and smiles. She's ready to improve, she wants to be the Symbol of Peace the world deserves. Soon, the class is standing together with their hero costumes on in Ground Beta. Aizawa enters a few moments after them, with Principal Nezu hanging from his scarf.
"Good morning students!" the mouse greets, "Today, you will be protecting me!" He slides down Aizawa's scarf and claps his hands together as he stands in front of the students. "There will be two teams, villains and heroes. The heroes will be protecting me from the villains. If the villains capture me, the heroes are allowed to try and save me before the fifteen-minute timer is up, but in order to capture me, the villains must wrap me in the capture tape. We will do a few rounds of this to make sure each person has a turn. I am not allowed to fight back, so don't worry about that."
Aizawa clears his throat, pulling out a bag from his pocket, "For this exercise, your groups will be randomized. If the piece of paper you pick is red, you're a villain. If it's blue, you're a hero. The hero teams may or may not be uneven. The villains, since they typically plan out things like this, will always be even. Come choose a color and go to the right of me if you're a hero, to the left if you're a villain."
Shoto and (Y/N) are the last two to choose from the bag. Shoto ends up with villain, while (Y/N) gets hero. The two head to the opposite sides of the road and take a look at the other student's assignments. Midoryia, Uraraka, Ashido, Kaminari, Mineta, Yayorozu, Aoyama, Iida, and Katsuki have become the villains, while Kirishima, Jiro, Hagakure, Koda, Shoji, Tokoyami, Sato, Sero, Ojiro, and Asui have become the heroes.
"Looks like we're going up against most of the strongest kids in our class, huh, (Y/N)?" Kirishima says from beside the girl.
"You're wrong." She replies, turning to him. "Everyone in our class is strong. Some have been hiding."
While tilting his head, Kirishima looks at his fellow heroes, wondering what (Y/N) meant by that. His eyes eventually find the outline of Hagakure. Not that anyone noticed, but how did Hagakure pass the exams? She's quiet in class as well. Maybe today, the class of 1-A will finally see how Hagakure can be a hero.
"Okay 1-A!" Principal Nezu says, "Since there are ten villains and eleven heroes, the first group is six heroes against five villains. Then the next will be five against five. Whoever wants to be in the first group of heroes or villains, please step up!"
(Y/N) steps out, and as he notices this, Kirishima does the same. Hagakure, Asui, and Tokoyami also step out. On the villain side, Midoryia, Shoto, Katsuki, Uraraka, and Yayorozu have stepped up.
"(Y/N), you sure you're up for this?" Kirishima asks quickly.
The (H/C)-haired girl sighs, "Do you really think I'd be the Symbol of Peace for no reason? I'm the number one hero because I'm up for anything."
"Okay, those who want to participate first, head to the middle of Ground Beta." Aizawa states, "Nezu will explain further over there. The rest of you, come with me so we can supervise your classmates."
Nezu goes to explain the rules and what's going to go down. The villains have been planning to take him away to learn about UA's plans so they can infiltrate and attack the students. The heroes have to protect him as best they can. Soon the group of six heroes and Principal Nezu head into a building together, while the villains wait outside for their cue to attack.
"(Y/N)," Tokoyami calls out, catching her attention.
"Yes?"
"What do you think is the best course of action here?" He asks.
"Well, there aren't many windows here, so the enemy is most likely going to come from the front door. If I can time it right, I can freeze whoever opens the door to make sure they can't just rush in and grab Nezu." the number one hero responds, "Then Asui, you can head up to the top of building-"
Suddenly the girl is cut off as she feels a harsh pain in her chest. She nearly topples over, but thankfully, Kirishima is there to catch her.
"(Y/N), are you okay?!" He asks.
"Y-Yeah, just give me a second." (Y/N) replies.
She gets up and takes a breath. Without even announcing the commencement of the attack, the five villains smash through the door. Immediately, though, Shoto's 'villain' act dissolves when he notices (Y/N)'s pained face. The boy tries to run over and help her, but she quickly whirls around and grows her rinkaku kagune. The four (F/C) tentacles rush towards Shoto. Before they can make contact, Midoryia appears and picks up the boy. He runs to the other side of the room with lightning speed, and sets him down.
Although she's overwhelmed with pain, (Y/N) stays standing. She breaths heavily for a few moments, but she allows her kagune to fade and her energy immediately comes back. Suddenly, it leaves again, and she falls down, keeping herself up on one knee with the help of her dominant hand.
That's when the entire floor disappears.
The group of students fall to the floor below them, and when the two teams are back on their feet, (Y/N) is encased in what was the floor above them.
"What the hell just happened!?" Katsuki yells, looking around.
"I don't know, (Y/N) just used her new quirk and sudden.." Midoryia trails off, realizing something. "(Y/N), they gave you more than one quirk, didn't they?"
A muffled response sounds, and 1-A finally turns to see the now 'rock' (Y/N). Her entire body, except for her face is covered completely in the pieces of the floor. Except, it's not just like the floor fell on her. The pieces of the floor are circled around her, creating a giant ball.
"(Y/N).." Shoto mutters, cursing himself for failing to notice his sister.
Midoryia approaches the rock, and begins pulling at the pieces but they don't become unstuck. "(Y/N) can you try doing anything you can possibly think of?" the green-haired boy suggests, "I think this might be the result of another quirk that the League of Villains gave you."
Silently, the girl agrees. She thinks of anything that she can do. Eventually, after many failed attempts, something works. The girl thinks about the pieces of the floor falling off of her and they do.
"What did you even do?!" Katsuki asks.
"A-All I did was think about the pieces falling off of me.." She responds, taking deep breaths.
"Try thinking of something else." Shoto says, "Like the pieces fixing themselves and recreating the floor that's supposed to be above us."
(Y/N) nods, and does as her brother says. Soon enough, the pieces of the floor that she'd just dropped float up to where the floor used to be, and begins piecing themselves back together.
The girl's face contorts, and she suddenly falls to the ground.
"(Y/N)! What's wrong!?" Shoto asks, rushing to her side.
"I remember.." She begins, before tears come streaming from her (E/C) eyes, "T-The villains put me under anesthesia for an experiment. T-They killed the Overhaul villain and tested to see if I could get his quirk. I-I saw him die."
Shoto cringes at the thought, and hugs his sister tightly. But the girl pulls away.
"Y-You have to stay away from me!" (Y/N) screams, "I-I have no control over these quirks, I-I may hurt you!"
Before the (H/C)-haired girl can run off, Aizawa and the rest of class 1-A enter the room. The teacher notices tears running from the student's face, but when he attempts to ask, she pushes past him and the others, running away to someplace.
"I hate to interrupt but, can someone untie me?! I've been lying like this since the floor came crashing down!"
"Sorry about that, Principal Nezu."
