A/N: GUESS WHO's BACKKKKK yipee yehaw vaca was fun but sitting on my ass writing is funner :)
I took a deep breath as I pushed the door open, the bell ringing as I did so. I saw my father's head snap up when he heard so, smile fading.
"Welcome!" He said, trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Hi..." I said. What if he doesn't remember?
"Choose any of the free seats-"
"No, please don't pretend you don't recognize me anymore, dad." I interrupted.
My father's eyes widened, hands dropping to his sides. "I-I'm sorry, Taeyeon-ah."
"So you do remember."
He nodded. "Let's sit down."
I nodded and we sat at an empty booth.
I let out a sigh.
"How have you been these years?" He suddenly asked. "How's school?"
"I didn't go to college." I replied.
He raised an eyebrow. "What do you work as then-"
"Dad, stop with the small talk! You know exactly why I am here. Where were you all these years? Why did you leave me and mom?!" I asked, eyes watering.
My dad opened his mouth agape at my outburst. "Taeyeon, I can explain-"
"Then please, explain."
"I left you and your mother because...I was cancer to the family. Your mother was never happy with me, and as was I. I decided it would be best if I left, so you wouldn't be hurt." He finally said.
"It still hurt anyway." I said.
"I know it would Taeyeon. I hoped you would move on." He said.
"How could I?" I asked. "You suddenly appear in front of me, and with a new family too."
"I'm not expecting for you to forgive me, I wouldn't either. But what's done has been done. Your mother is happy, I'm happy."
"What about me?!"
Dad silently looked down. "Don't you want me to disappear from your eyes? Once you've seen that I left you?"
"I..." I sighed. "Just wanted answers."
"I missed you, daughter." He said. "For all those years. But I hope you're happy now."
"I did too." I replied. "And...I am happy. Happier than back when you left."
"I'm glad. Please continue to live your life like that without me."
...
"Taeyeon-ah, I'm so sorry." He said at last, tears in his eyes.
"I thought you were dead." I said, wiping my tears away.
"I'm so, so, sorry." He said. "Please give my regards to your mom when you get back."
"I will." I said, nodding. "How's your...family?" I said, finding it difficult to say the last part.
"...you have two step-siblings." He muttered. "I'm sorry, this is so hard to say."
"Do they know?"
"Yes, they all know."
"I'm glad. I hope you treat them well, and love them a lot."
"I do." Dad said. "I hope you know I love you too, Taeyeon."
"I love you too, dad."
Suddenly, the door bursted open. "TAEYEON???"
I looked up, and saw Seunghoon standing there. A wave of relief washed over his face when our eyes met. "Seunghoon?? Why are you here?"
He rushed over, panting. "You need to stop running off! Tell us next time before I loose another 30 years of my life!"
I chuckled. "You're that worried about me?"
"Yes. Jeez..." Seunghoon said, ruffling his hair. His eyes trailed off to the man sitting next to me and his eyes widened. "O-oh, um, hi, Taeyeon's father. Sorry if I interrupting anything."
My father smiled and shook his head. "No...it's alright. You're Taeyeon's friend, I assume?"
"Yes. Hello, I am Lee Seunghoon." He bowed 90 degrees.
"Lee Seunghoon, as in, the one from WINNER?" My dad asked.
Seunghoon nodded. "Yes!"
"You're friends with an idol Taeyeon?" Dad turned to me.
"I work for him." I replied. "I'm his stylist."
My dad's jaw dropped. "Wow...that is amazing."
"She is very good, sir." Seunghoon said.
"I'm very proud of you daughter."
"Thank you." I replied.
"Would you kids like something to eat?" My dad asked.
I shook my head. "No, it's okay, we ate already."
"I'm glad you guys are taking care of yourselves. WINNER is very popular in Japan and I'm sure everywhere else as well."
"Haha...thank you." Seunghoon said, denying it.
"Dad!!!" A young girl's voice called in Japanese.
Dad turned to me with guilt swimming in his eyes.
The young girl with cute large eyes and hair tied in two small pigtails came rushing to her (or my) dad, hugging him tight. I watched the two silently, ignoring the pain in my heart.
"Konichiwa!" I crouched down and smiled at the girl. She replied with a cute and toothy smile with her missing teeth. Luckily, I knew some Japanese.
"Who's this?"
"This is your sister, Jaeyoung-ah." Dad smiled.
The girl cocked her head to the side, as she was too young to fully understand. "Sister?"
"She is my daughter, honey."
"But I am your daughter!" She replied.
"You are too. That's why you guys are sisters." Dad said.
The girl shook her head like she didn't understand, but turned to me and held out her hand anyways. "Dad says you're my sister, so I guess you are! Hello sister, my name is Park Jaeyoung."
I was impressed by her introduction, and soon the pain in my heart was gone. She was welcoming me, whether she understood or not. It made me happy. "Hi, Jaeyoung-ah, my name is Park Taeyeon." I said.
"Pretty!" She giggled and then ran away. "Mommy! My sister is here!!" She yelled.
I froze. What would I say to her??
A woman soon appeared out of the kitchen. "Who is this, honey?" She said to father in Japanese.
"It's about time, don't you think? It's time you see my other family." He said to her.
The woman looked up at me, eyes widening. "You're his daughter..."
I nodded and bowed, introducing myself. "Yes. It's...very nice to meet you. A-after all this time."
"Tell me...why would it be nice to meet me? Are you so confident to show up here?" She asked, bitterly.
My eyes widened as her remark. I bowed my head. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean any harm-I just wanted to visit my father for one last time." My heart thumped in my chest and I gulped. I didn't want her to think I wanted my father back. He was happy where he was and I couldn't possibly ruin it.
"He is not your father anymore. Your mother already has a boyfriend, why don't you call him your father, instead of confusing my children with your words?"
"Honey, that's enough." Father interrupted.
I gulped down the lump in my throat. She hates me. She hates me for being the daughter of her husband. "Is it wrong for me to visit him? When he's the one who ran away in the first place?"
"Taeyeon-" I felt Seunghoon's hand on my back.
"There is a reason he ran away from you and your mother. And it's not what he told you." She finally said.
Those last words cut deep inside my heart. My dad was lying this whole time? Did he really hate me?
"Taeyeon, it's time to leave." Seunghoon said softly.
"Alright. Goodbye father." I said. Turning to my step-mom, I said, "You were the only one not to accept me. I hope you realize that this situation is the past and I only came looking for a happy reunion." And with that, I walked out the door,
Leaving my father and his new family behind.
