7.Anemone the C.2.
I kept my phone on me at all times, in case Troid calls back. I doubt it though, he says he’s ganna go to his grandfather, what a lame excuse. I know he’s with Ace, I just feel it. Ace isn’t normal; I’ve known that for a while. No one can look that emo and act so childish. I pushed myself off my bed and ran downstairs.
“I’m ganna go get some fresh air, ma!” I ran outside and grabbed my bike. I peddled up the street. I took a right then a left then a right then carried on upwards. I stopped at a certain somebody’s house. No lights. So I was right, as predicted. But my eyes narrowed when I saw a figure in front the front door. I moved closer behind the bushed until I could make out a face. It was a girl long blonde hair that was tied back one pony tail but her hair was so long it hung just an inch above the ground and the tips of her hair were all black. Her eyes were shining turquoise, just staring at the front door, probably wondering if she should knock. She had on a white dress with long sleeves. It was a plain dress but on the front of the dress was an odd looking bird. It had its wings spread open and fire formed from the wings. A phoenix? And she bears a surprising resemblance to Troid…what is this? She turned her face to me and I jumped behind a bush, trying to hide. She walked up to me on her white high heels. She grabbed me and pulled me out of the bush.
“Do you know a boy names Troid Renton Hunter? He looks just like me but he’s a ‘he’?” She asked me. I nodded.
“Where is he?” I held up my shoulders.
“With Ace.”
“Ace? Can you describe him.”
“Emo black hair, light brown eyes, always quiet, ummm….”
“Does he sound like he almost has a British accent?”
“Now that you mention it, yes, why?” She let me go and I fell to the ground. “Hey! I asked you a question!”
“And I’m not obliged to answer.” She jumped up, but higher than any human. You couldn’t see her anymore. I should warn Troid. I took out my phone and dialled his number. Ringing. Ringing. Ringing. Dammit! I heard a growl, it was loud. I looked up. Oh no…
“My phone’s ringing!” I yelled but Ace held a tight grip on me and kept me back. “It’s Sora! Let me answer!”
“No! I won’t let you!”
“It could be an emergency!”
“By emergency you mean a mouse broke in, stole all the pizza, talked to the cookie fairy that made a contract with the marshmallow bunny who ate the forbidden chocolate bear that went mad and broke into Sora’s house where he got a frizzy, ate the bookcase and all the books took their revenge on the bear then flew up to Sora where they forcefully told him a horrible story and made him call you just to say that the pizza no longer is a pizza! I won’t let you fall into this diabolic plan of the evil demon mouse! I will save you Troid!”
What will I do, oh what will I do? I can’t believe the prince and Lord Benjamin have already gotten to Troid. Troid…anyone but Troid…I din’t want him involved. Idiot…you just gave me the hardest job in the entire world! I made my departure for the prince. He’s going to suffer highly for what he’s done.
“Number 27- “
“I have a name you know.”
“T something, whatever. You’re going to stay here in this base. You can’t go anywhere! There is an important duty I must attend to and I can’t bring a zombie along. This may be your first day here but you’ll get used to it, all the other subjects did.”
“How long will I stay here?”
“Possibly a month.” So about next week three days school then the rest of vacation, looks like I’ll still be able to return to school.
“What about Ace?” He started to chuckle when I said the name.
“He’ll be staying while I go out, you’ll continue physical exams and blood exams with Ace.”
“Not you?”
“Ace said he wants to take you as his responsibility. A little pet for a necromancer.” Pet? That’s about what I am… I nodded. “Then I shall be leaving now.” He took off his coat and hung it up. Opened the door and disappeared. I sighed the started making my way to his office room I previously was in. I stood in front of the door. He might have locked it, but that won’t stop me! I took hold of the door handle and turned it. Locked. I stepped back and clenched my fist. I leaped forward and hit the door. Nothing happened. I stepped back and examined the door. Around the door was a white light and the phoenix mark formed. A seal. Perfect, I sighed and walked back to the gym in silence. When I entered Ace was on one of the treadmills.
“What are you doing?” I said, expecting him to be startled but no.
“Working my own body for a bit.” I only nodded. He went to a treadmill in front of him and began running at 50 miles p/h.
“So…you might telling me how you and Amaimon met and how the name ‘Ace’ brings back memories?” He smiled and sped up his treadmill.
“You can’t tell anyone, not even Amaimon, k?” I nodded. “The necromancer king stole the shinigami king’s death scythe and Amaimon was on the mission to retrieve it. When he accomplished that he stayed behind to infiltrate the base by researching al there is to know on necromancers and what we know of shinigamis in the castle’s library. I was only 100 years old at that time and my first time in the castle and I explored while the battle was on, I didn’t want to be part of the battle and choose a side I thought the war was silly and that there should be peace. While I explored I found the library and at the end of the library I found a certain shinigami there. I could see it immediately by his eyes and helped him with his research. After a week he went back to the shinigami realm and 70 years later we just happened to run into each other by a festival.”
“So Amaimon was a spy?”
“Yes, but not at first. At first he was a part of the frontline then the ambush team.”
“He must be very strong.” He shook his head.
“He was weak. He had no physical experience and even though he had a strong I.Q. he wasn’t good at making strategies and he was the weakest of all shinigamis.”
“Then how-?”
“Not sure. But after the week the shinigami king adopted Amaimon as the prince of shinigamis and gave him a death scythe.”
“What’s a death scythe?”
“It’s that thing he had in his hands when he attacked me when I entered the room.”
“The long thin stick with the sharp blade that’s a bit bended and like small ones stuck out the blade. Then there was a small skull with a red ribbon tying the skull then hung to the ground. Oh and there’s a phoenix on the blade.”
“Yeah…you really took all that in in such little time?”
“I tend to concentrate on important things.”
“Anyway he was given the death scythe but what didn’t make sense is that there are only 10 death scythes in existence and those ten are the strongest, that includes the shinigami king as one.”
“Then why would he be given one if he’s so weak and made shinigami prince?” He rose his shoulders.
“Don’t know, he said it’s a shinigami secret.”
“So there will never be peace between necromancers and shinigami if it continues like this.” He nodded. I thought for a moment. “Hey…do you know what that phoenix means?”
“That…phoenix…” He looked down. “That’s one thing Amaimon told me, but I can’t tell you.”
“Why not?!”
“Because if I tell you then you might make stupid decisions.”
“Because the Hunter family are phoenixes.” His eyes shot open.
“How’d you-?”
“I saw it on a file in his office, but I only saw the tittle and I couldn’t read. Ugg in one day my best friend finds out I’m a zombie, one of my rivals turned out be me laughing maniac who is a necromancer who took a part in reviving me, been in a first class section of a plane, been attacked by yokai, jumped out of a plane, flew on a staff made out of bones, met the one who revived me and he’s a mad shinigami with a death scythe, then he almost kills me, then I die, then I’m alive again, then I see my heart, then I find out I can run at 100 miles p/h, then I found that my family has something to do with phoenixes, then I found out that the mad scientist is the prince of shingamis, he infiltrated necromancers, and faced against the necromancer king. If you put any more stress on me today by not telling me what’s wrong with my family then you will never hear the end of this!” He sighed and stepped off the treadmill.
“Every Hunter family member has the blood of a legendary yokai, the Phoenix. Phoenix was the one who made it his own personal mission for dealing with yokai that turn evil, and as you saw today all yokai is evil now, but not back then. He rained overall and eventually became the most powerful being in the universe, but he was taken out by two supernatural. But before he died he had two ofsprings that were human and that’s where the Hunter family started. But no one knew about them, neither who the supernatural were. Amaimon and I started research and eventually found the Hunter family, then we traced them down to two people.” My eyes widened.
“Two?”
“Yes. There is always one Hunter member in the world at a time because when a Hunter is born, then that person’s parents immediately died. So we thought you were the only one, but we were wrong…”
“How?” He looked up at me.
“Guess.” My eyes widened.
“I have a-“
“Twin. Yes. But you two were separated at birth for it might be troublesome for you two to grow up together. It seems there are other people that know of the phoenixes and made it their mission to follow them around until the Hunter member that would physically become the phoenix. They separated you two.”
“Do you think that I’ll-“
“That’s why Amaimon revived you, because any Hunter could be a phoenix. But you were the second one we got to, Amaimon already found your twin and claimed her as his own.”
“Wait…what?! It’s a her! And what do you mean by ‘claimed’?”
“Amaimon and I made a bet and that would be to see which Hunter will become the phoenix. I claimed you, and he claimed your sister. Be both made it personal to train you two until one of you two are strong enough to transform and then there can be peace over the yokai and then necromancers and shinigamis.”
“So that’s why you’re letting me do this.”
“Yup. And now that you understand all this, you better train as hard as you can, until your undead body decades and you die of exhaustion. You better not tell Amaimon I told you all this.” I nodded. I’m always going to remember this day…seriously…
I ran through the city and high way as fast as I can, which is 1000 miles p/h so they can’t even see me. I didn’t want Troid involved with the supernatural world, and even more the Hunter game… He’s my brother and I care for him, even if I haven’t met him he’s still the most important person to me. The prince decided on me, and Lord Benjamin gets Troid, why did those two idiots have to make a bet on us? They both know that I’m the only fit to be the Phoenix! And I didn’t want Troid involved; Lord Benjamin is going to suffer for this!
“My, my, C.2. Odd seeing you here.” I heard as I ran through a forest. I stopped and turned back to see a certain red haired prince clinging onto his death scythe. I walked to him frustrated, I wanted to kill him. I stood there on my white high heels, but even so he toppled over me.
“Prince! Why is Troid involved? I thought I said I’ll be the phoenix so that Troid doesn’t have to take apart of this pitiful and foolish gamble of yours!” He sighed and messed up my hair, I hate it if he does that so I pushed him away and jumped back. “Why?!”
“C.2., try and understand that number 27 brought himself into this.”
“You called him number 27…meaning he’s an experiment, what have you done?!”
“My, my, always jumping to conclusions. A little more than a month ago your brother was a victim of a serial killer and I simply wanted to make my deary C.2. happy, so I revived him.”
“You WHAT?! Revived him?!”
“Yeah…something the matter?”
“Something the matter?! He’s a zombie now! That’ll be hard to compete with!” He whipped his index finger at me.
“Exactly! Now you’ll gonna have to wait longer before we can help you and Lord Death defeat the C.O.D.S.!” His eyes shot open and he took my by the collar and lifted me off the floor. He looked really angry at me.
“How do you know of the C.O.D.S?” He glared madly at me
“I know of everything! About C.O.D.S., the thing supposedly you, Lord Death and the necromancer king knows of. I know the reason why he adopted you, I know why; I know why you wish to create artificial life. I know why you want to revive the phoenix…” I said eyeing him. He let me go and I fell to the ground. I rubbed my head and when I opened my eyes I found that his death scythe was at my neck.
“How?” Sweat rolled down my forehead and I clenched my fists. I bit my lower lip, this was a bad idea. “Did you go through my office? Impossible. I put a seal around the save.” I looked down.
“Maybe I got the information from someone else…”
“Someone else? There is no one else!” I can’t tell him now, maybe later but not now. It’s too soon.
“Maybe not…”
“How. Do. You. Know?” Oh well, here’s my excuse.
“Lord Death told me.”
“Father? But how? Why would he tell you and if he did then how does he know of artificial life?”
“He told me because he thinks I’ll be the phoenix and he says he’s been watching you since you left for Earth.” He slowly retreated his scythe and fell onto the soft grass.
“Im-impossible…” I stood up and stood over him, watching down at his shaking limbs.
“My prince, I’m going to return to the base, going to take Troid, and run. I’ll return to you when I’ve become the phoenix. So don’t even think of doing anything!” I ran out the forest and made my way up the mountain. I jumped off the high mountain, falling at a high speed. This feeling is so cool! It’s fun and free. I aimed my feet for the ground and held my hands high. As soon as my feet touched the ground I bend my legs and pushed back up. I flew up fast and high into the sky. I fell back down and did the same. In about three hours after that, I stood in the grass field. The entrance to the lab was right before me, but I couldn’t see it obviously. I turned around and my eyes fell over the field. There was blood everywhere and yokai bodies.
“Looks like my prince got into a fight, or Lord Benjamin.” I bend down to the ground and ran my hand over the dry blood. It feels really weird, it’s liquid but like rock. I can’t explain it. This is yokai blood; this blood will always be on my hands in the near future where I become the phoenix. I’m certain that I’ll become the phoenix, only I can do it. Troid’s not up for it, and he’ll never be. Being a zombie must already be hard enough for him, now he’s expected to be a phoenix? Don’t make me laugh! I walked a little further and bend down. I examined the dirt. This is the entrance, but it’s broken. I took a hold of the dirt and lifted up the metal board. I lowered it as I walked down the stairs. I reached my hand for the handle when I felt a presence. I looked up and saw the phoenix mark. My eyes widened as I remembered something important. I can’t take Troid out of this. He has to be a part of this otherwise Lord Death’s plan will fail! He has to be a part of the Phoenix fight; he has to fight me for the power of the phoenix. I can’t leave him out… Oh how could I’ve forgotten of that one important little detail. He has to get stronger, he has to fight for the phoenix, he has to…otherwise the C.O.D.S. will kill him, for real…And then there’s the prince…and Lord Death…I can’t let them die because of my stupidity, Troid…you’re going to have to protect them, protect the prince and Lord Benjamin! I know a very important detail in this war that only I know of, and that is that there is one single man targeting them both, knowing their partnership between necromancer and shinigami, and only a Hunter can defeat him! I can’t…so that leaves Troid, Troid has to defeat him, only Troid… I laid my head against the phoenix mark and breathed. I’m so sorry Troid, I guess I can’t save you after all, I can’t…And I know this doesn’t make sense, none of it does! But you’ll soon learn the secret of the shinigamis, then you’ll understand more of what’s happening, and then C.O.D.S. Forgive me Troid! Forgive your pathetic sister who can’t even save her brother! I heard a slash and sensed a presence. On the other side of the door is Lord Benjamin pointing his staff towards the door, He sensed me, or rather not specifically me, why else would he stand guarded? I smirked and pushed the door open slightly. I entered and saw Lord Benjamin slowly dropping his staff and Troid back at the room, staring at me.
“Why are you here, Anemone?” I sighed.
“Lord Benjamin, I thought I told you to please call me C.2.” He eyed me and gripped tighter onto his staff.
“I think not, now why are you here? To take Troid away?” That was my intention, but after I thought it over it further I decided not to.
“No.” I said firmly making him widened his eyes and stand tall.
“What?” He asked.
“No. I’m not going to take him away.”
“What? Why? I thought you said you’ll do anything to get Troid out of the phoenix fight.”
“I did.” I nodded. “But then I learned the secret between the shinigami and necromancer war and from there on one thing led to another and before I realized it, Troid was already involved in a great deal of it. So if I were to take him away then the world will sure to collapse.” I looked over his shoulder to my confused brother. “But don’t let that worry you!”
“So why are you here then?” Lord Benjamin said holding up his staff and letting it disappear.
“Nothing what you should worry about, just an order from the prince.” I walked passed him and entered the hall. I don’t know why but these two gullible pigs seemed to follow me. I sighed and stopped at the prince’s office. I took a hold of the handle and then the mark appeared. I smiled and turned the handle, making the door open. I entered the room and glared back at the two pigs. I walked to them and pushed both of them out, closing the door and sighing. Seems they’re curious as well. I walked around the desk and pushed away the wooden chair. I sat on my knees and ran my hand over the wooden boards. I picked one up, revealing a box with diamonds all over. I smirked and took it out. I opened it and it revealed a golden compass with a blue diamond in the middle and all over the side. I closed the box and put it back. I placed the plank back and stood up. I took the chair placed it neatly back and started walking to the door. I stopped when I saw a file with the title ‘The Hunter Family’ I smirked and walked to the door. I threw the compass into my pocket and exited the room. The door was still sealed as it was before, like I never even touched the door. I walked further down the hall until I reached a door at the end. I opened it and entered, locking the door behind me. This is my room, the one I’ve stayed in for the last 17 years. It was all white, from the bed to its sheets, from the walls to the floor, from the desk to the closet. Everything was plain and white. I walked to the closet and opened it. I took out the clothes I wanted and quickly changed into them. A black dress with long sleeves, it looked very plain. A white cape with a white hoodie and the phoenix on the back, long black boots up to under my knee. I placed black collar with white gems all around. I took out my pony tail and let my long hair drop to the floor. With my high heels my hair hung a few inches on the floor. I walked over to my mirror desk and took a few clippings and clipped into my hair that the long hair stayed out of my eyes. I walked to my bed and took a little pouch I had and placed it in the cape’s pocket. I took the compass and threw it in the pocket inside the cape. I walked to the door but stopped as I realized something. I walked back to my desk and opened the drawer. There was a red ruby there the shape of a heart. The necromancer king’s ruby, yes I stole it, for a good reason. Lord Benjamin will kill me if he finds out, but I need to keep it. I placed the ruby in my pocket and closed the drawer. I walked to the door and opened it. Stepped through and locked it. I walked down the hall until I reached the lab. Lord Benjamin and Troid were observing a few of the experiments. Lord Benjamin stood straight and looked to me, examining me. Troid noticed this and looked to my side. Lord Benjamin walked to me and stopped right in front of me. Damn, he’s just as tall as Amaimon.
“Where are you going?” He said observing me.
“I told you it’s an order from the prince.” He crossed his arms and glared at me.
“And does this order involve you going out to battle?” He asked.
“And what if it did?” I asked walking past him and headed for the door.
“Who are you ganna kill?” I stopped and turned my head to him. I started chuckling evilly at him. His eyes widened and he kept staring at me. “Who?!” I looked forward to the door.
“A necromancer.” I could just sense his jaw hung open as I walked to the door.
“Who?!” He yelled again. I stopped and turned to him.
“Are you a necromancer….or shinigami?”
“What are you talking-?”
“On what side are you on?” I asked demandingly, eyeing him. He hesitated for a moment.
“I can’t change what I am, but I won’t choose sides. I want to be known as a neutral. So I won’t choose between necromancers and shinigami so-!”
“There’s only one race.” He stopped and looked at me.
“What?”
“There’s only one race.”
“I don’t understand.”
“No such thing as a shinigami, no such thing as a necromancer. You get it? It’s one race that separated by two different opinions of what the race’s purpose is, that’s where necromancers and shinigamis came from. One kills, the other revives, but same race.”
“You lie! Necromancers and shinigamis are completely different!”
“Think about it Lord Benjamin, what’s the difference between necromancers and shinigamis? What they do? Yes, that’s what they call the ‘Two Opinions’ that divided the race. So think about it, is there anything else really different?”
“Yes! The way a necromancer and shinigami are born is different! And necromancers use staffs! Shinigami use death scythes!”
“You can use all your power without a staff, it’s absolutely nothing. And there are only 10 death scythes. The 10 were created by the person who had the ‘Second Opinion’ to give something more the second race he created can strive for. Now, do you know how a ‘shinigami’ is born? Do you know how a ‘necromancer’ is born?”
“A necromancer is born when you kill your older sibling to-“
“That was created by the person who had the ‘First Opinion’. It was to show a little difference from ‘shinigamis’. So if you’re the older sibling or a single sibling then you have no chance of becoming a necromancer, that’s where the shinigamis come from.”
“What?”
“If they have no siblings or the oldest then they’re taken to shinigamis.”
“Even if that’s true the younger sibling has to-“
“Not true. Those bones in the staff are random ones from humans and the older sibling is still alive, as a shinigami. They’re all still alive. The reason why I think the person with first did this was because then there’s less necromancers and that people will try and feel helpful and become a part of an extinct race, he did this because there are a lot more kids these days that wanna kill, so they’ll choose shinigamis and refuse necromancers, this way necromancers are al l good hearted people. Well that’s what I think, I honestly have no idea what went through their heads…”
“And…and you expect me to believe you? To say there’s no such things as necromancers and shinigamis? That there’ll all one race? That we were divided by these ‘Two Opinions’? You expect me to believe that?”
“Yes.” I heard from behind me to see the prince entering the room.
“Amaimon…its…its true then? We’re the same?” He nodded slowly.
“I wanted to tell you but it seems my deary C.2. was a little impatient. Everything doesn’t make sense, but we are the same race, Benjamin. Now Lord Death and the necromancer king are trying to make peace again, but it’s impossible with the enemy before us.”
“Enemy? What enemy?”
“There are two things keeping the two sides apart. One, the yokai. That;s why we need the phoenix as soon as possible and two, C.O.D.S.”
“What?” He shook his head.
“I can’t tell you that.”
“Why not Amaimon?! Why did you keep this from me!? Don’t you trust me?! Tell me!”
“No! I wanted to keep all of this from you and even more Troid, but it seems because of you he knows of the phoenixes. Why is it that everything I’ve worked so hard to keep secret, everything I did to protect you, all poor out now?!” He lowered his head, and let a tear escape his eyes. I better go…he’s going to kill me now… I quietly snaked past him and just as I touched the door he spoke. “C.2.! Why did you tell him?!” I laid my head against the door, breathing slowly.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t, and we need him now most of all.”
“What?”
“I have a plan at mind, which will make a million years go as fast as a month.” The narrowed his eyes.
“What do you mean?” I simply giggled and opened the door.
“You will see, my prince, you will see. You will see.”
