chapter 2

Yueting read the letter, and it was obvious to her that there was a downside to the system; otherwise, why would Kyo give it away to her? It wasn't in the book, but since Kyo gave Yueting the necklace, it must be a part of the system. Yueting continued looking through the book. There was a page at the end, but it was ripped out, and only part of it was visible.

𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓃𝑒𝒸𝓀𝓁𝒶𝒸𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓈𝓎𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓂𝓈 𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓁, 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝓉𝓇𝑜𝓎 𝒾𝓉 𝒶𝓃𝒹- ☁︎☁︎ 𝒷𝓎 𝒹𝑜𝒾𝓃𝑔 ☁︎ 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒸𝒶𝓃 ☁︎

𝒹𝑜 𝓃𝑜𝓉 𝓁𝑒𝓉 ☁︎ 𝒻𝒾𝓃𝒹 𝑜𝓊𝓉, 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒶𝓇𝑒☁︎☁︎

Yueting couldn't figure out what this meant; surely, there was no way to get rid of the system. Because if there was a way, Kyo would've used it and not given the necklace to someone else. "Ugh," this was too much for Yueting.

𝒰𝓈𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝒷𝑜𝑜𝓀 𝓉𝑜 𝓇𝑒𝒸𝑜𝓇𝒹 𝑔𝓊𝒾𝒹𝑒𝓈, 𝒶𝓈 𝓇𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓂𝒷𝑒𝓇𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝒷𝑒 𝒹𝒾𝒻𝒻𝒾𝒸𝓊𝓁𝓉.

This was the last sentence, besides the ripped-out page.

Yueting sighed as her tummy growled. She stood up and walked downstairs, feeling the need to grab something to eat before sleeping. Upon arriving downstairs, she noticed a rather young woman assisting Akari. "Hello there! You must be the adventurer my mother mentioned. I'm Yumi!" Yueting realized that this was Akari's daughter. "I'm Yueting. Nice to meet you." Yueting wasn't fond of talking much, especially not to strangers.

"Are you here to eat? I've already prepared something special for you!" Yumi exclaimed. Yueting sat down at one of the tables Yumi led her to. Without a minute passing, Yumi brought out a lot of food. "Can I sit down with you? Mother told me you are an adventurer. Can you tell me about your adventures?" Yumi asked, showing a keen interest. "I can't really tell you much," Yueting replied.

"Aww. Can you please at least tell me your attributes? Are you a mage, or a sword fighter perhaps?" Yumi inquired, displaying maturity but also a fascination with adventurers. "I'm a swordsman, though I can pretty much do everything on a basic level," Yueting explained. She could have been like a god in this world because of the system if it weren't for the bad aftereffects.

"Ohh! So you could heal too? That's so cool," Yumi exclaimed. "Why? Do you want to become an adventurer?" Yueting asked. "Mhm... well, my mother wants me to take over the inn one day," Yumi admitted. "But do you?" Yueting probed. Yumi deflected the question with a cheerful response, "Well, let's not bother about that and eat first!" Sensing Yumi's evasion, Yueting silently ate.

Upon taking the first bite of the steak Yumi brought, Yueting's eyes lit up. "THIS IS SO GOOD!" Yumi laughed, "Thank you, my mother is really good at cooking." After eating, Yueting went upstairs to sleep after saying good night to Akari and Yumi. Upon plopping onto the bed, Yueting didn't take much time to fall into a deep sleep.

Outside, everyone rushes as a very injured man lays right in front of the inn with his men asking for a healer. No one nearby knew how to heal such an injury. Yumi and Akari rush out as well; situations like this were normal. Adventurers die every day by overestimating their abilities. "Please, does anyone here have healing abilities?" one of the men asks. No one responds until a few seconds pass, and Yumi steps forward. "Yumi, what are you doing?" Akari yells. "Sir, the adventurer that's staying in our inn mentioned she has healing abilities," Yumi says.

It didn't take the men another minute to stand up and rush inside with Akari right behind them. They bang on Yueting's room door. "Open!" Without anyone responding, the men decide to push down the door. Upon entering the room, Yueting was laying on the floor, fallen out of the bed. "Huh?" she asks in a sleepy tone. "Miss, we need your help!" Yueting tries to turn around. "Five more minutes." "Ma'am, our friend is injured, please!" one of the men yells. That's when Yueting realizes and jumps up. "THEN WHY ARE YOU NOT GETTING A DOCTOR?!" Yueting yells. "There's no one nearby," the man says. Without another thought, Yueting follows the men downstairs. "Out of the way," the men push through the way to get to the man.

⌞Activating healing process⌝

It seems I have no other choice, Yueting thinks.

Four magic circles appear, two healing, one checking the injury, and one preparing medicine based on the analysis. Everyone gasps; barely anyone could summon two magic circles, and commoners couldn't even summon one, so four was extraordinary. After a few seconds, Yueting began to feel dizzy. Are those the effects mentioned in Kyo's book? Yueting had to continue; just after a few minutes, the man was completely healed.

⌞High risk to pass out⌝

The system's warning didn't help, and Yueting passed out.

When she woke up again, she found herself in her room surrounded by several people. Among them were Akari, Yumi, the man she helped, and his men. "Finally, you're awake," one of the men said. "Sir Haruto, this is the woman who healed you," one of his men added. She sat up. "Miss, I'm very grateful for your help. To return the favor, I'd like to fulfill one of your wishes," Haruto said. "There's no need to do that. I just did what had to be done," she replied, though inwardly she thought it was more of being forced than choice.

"I see. Well, since you're an adventurer, may I ask where you're headed?" Haruto inquired. "Honestly, I don't know yet," she answered.

⌞System message: We're headed to the capital. I've already sent a letter to the king.⌝

Why the king? she wondered. "The capital, I suppose," she added to her previous response. "That's good. By coincidence, we're headed there too. Would you like to go with us?" Haruto offered. "Sure, though I was planning to leave today," she replied. "I see. Then how about you leave with us tomorrow, and I'll pay for your night's stay?" Haruto suggested. "Thanks," she accepted. "Then let's go get something to eat first," Haruto said as he stood up. She hadn't noticed before, but Haruto was a demi-human, a mix of cat and human, or at least that's what it seemed.

"I heard you used a quadruple spell. Are you, by any chance, an S-class xing mage? Because I heard they recently got summoned back to the capital since the hero has arrived," Haruto inquired. Hero? Don't tell me that's why the system sent the king a letter, she thought. "Oh no, I'm no exceptionally good mage like that. I'm just a normal adventurer," she replied. "I see. I noticed I haven't really introduced myself yet. I'm Haruto, I own an adventurer guild in the capital," Haruto introduced himself." I'm Yueting," she responded.

The next day, Haruto and Yueting departed with the other men. Yueting rode on her horse while reading the guide; Haruto was in the carriage. He had asked if she wanted to join, but she refused. Earlier, when Haruto asked her why she was reading a cookbook, Yueting found out that others can't see the book the way she does. For others, it's a normal book, which means she doesn't have to be cautious while reading it.

Yueting was used to reading a lot from her childhood, though back then, it was mostly school books. Although this isn't much different from a basic school book. I should probably start with understanding the basics so I can start training soon, Yueting thought. This was a second chance at life for her. She wasn't interested in being a hero, but being a hero would mean she could drink more beer if she did well on her missions, right?
