chapter 1
Just like any other night, Yueting went out drinking. For her, this procedure was normal, but it hadn't always been. Back when Yueting was younger, she used to be hardworking, doing everything to gain praise. She had good grades and was a good child, embodying the expectations of a parent for their child. However, after her girlfriend betrayed her, Yueting found herself on the streets. Since then, she had become a deadbeat alcoholic, seeking solace in alcohol almost every night to numb the pain of her past.
The last thing Meiyang, Yueting's ex-girlfriend, had said was, "Maybe in another life, this wouldn't have gone so wrong for you, Yueting." To which Yueting replied, "Then please meet me in my next life and the one after that, till we've reached our happy end." Yueting was emotional in that moment, but she couldn't bear to shed a tear in front of Meiyang.
But how could a drunken night like any other result in Yueting buying a mysterious necklace from some young boy? The boy seemed frantic, as if he were afraid someone would see him. Was the necklace stolen? Yueting was too drunk to think about it, so she simply bought the pretty-looking necklace.
The next morning, Yueting awoke feeling a bit hungover, though she was used to it. To her surprise, she found herself in a dark place with the starry sky visible above, unlike anything she had experienced on Earth. The twinkling stars mesmerized her, casting a tranquil ambiance over the unfamiliar surroundings.
Yueting could hear footsteps but couldn't see anyone. The footsteps grew louder and then stopped when they seemed to be close to her. Her heart raced with uncertainty as she awaited the source of the sound, her senses heightened in anticipation.
⌞System Activated⌝
A screen-like thing popped up in front of Yueting, emitting a purple-ish color.
⌞Welcome, hero. I've been awaiting you.⌝
"Hero?" Yueting asked herself, her voice trembling slightly with disbelief.
⌞Your last mission has been completed. Shall we proceed with the next universe?⌝
There were too many questions lingering in Yueting's mind, swirling like a tempestuous whirlwind of uncertainty.
⌞Memory loss detected...⌝
⌞Do you wish to see a summary?⌝
"Summary? I guess so," Yueting says, her voice echoing faintly in the vast emptiness surrounding her. She was still processing this surreal experience, grappling with the blurred lines between reality and fantasy. Am I still drunk? Is this a dream? No, it couldn't be. Everything seems so real, yet surreal at the same time.
⌞Registering as Kyo... Summary downloading...⌝
Kyo? Was that the boy's name? Yueting asked herself, her thoughts scattered.
⌞Download complete, summary loading...⌝
⌞Last mission location: Earth
Mission goal completed: Yes
Side quests completed: 8
Level up: +20⌝
Why does this feel like I'm in some kind of game? Yueting asked herself, her voice tinged with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
⌞Summary complete, next mission loading...⌝
"Huh?" Yueting's voice echoed faintly, swallowed by the vast expanse of nothingness that enveloped her.
⌞Loading complete. ⌝
⌞World genre of next mission: japanese fantasy world⌝
⌞Loading gear.. ⌝
Huh?? A purple-ish light erupted from the floor, engulfing Yueting in its ethereal glow. The radiant beams danced around her, illuminating the darkness with their otherworldly brilliance. After the light faded, Yueting found herself adorned in fantastical attire.
She was wearing something suit-like, but it looked more like it came out of a fantasy book. She also had dual swords on her back, her hair was tied up in a halfway ponytail and decorated with beautiful purple flowers. Similar flowers in the same color adorned her clothes and the pendant attached to the sword. That Kyo dude, the previous owner of whatever this is, must've really liked the color purple. What a coincidence, it's my favorite color too, Yueting mused, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Perhaps, in this strange and wondrous world, the color purple held a significance far beyond mere coincidence.
⌞Gear complete, ready for transfer?⌝
Yueting was still comprehending this surreal experience, her mind swirling with a myriad of unanswered questions. But even if it was real, going back wouldn't necessarily be better. And if this was a dream, then everything would go back to normal once she wakes up, no matter the outcome. "I'm ready," she whispered, her voice barely audible amidst the silence that engulfed her.
⌞Transferring...⌝
For a second time, a purple light emitted, bathing Yueting in its radiant glow. But this time, it was different, more intense, as if heralding the beginning of a new chapter in her life. Without leaving a second for Yueting to think about it, she was sucked into the swirling vortex of light, her form disappearing into the abyss.
Not many seconds later, the same portal opened mid-sky, making Yueting fall from the heavens like a shooting star. "AH! Are they expecting me to be able to fly?!" Yueting's voice echoed across the vast expanse of the celestial realm, her words lost amidst the cacophony of the universe. Just a second before Yueting hit the ground, the purple thing caught her once again, but this time it was in the form of a cloud, soft and billowy like cotton candy. Perhaps this was just the system's way of ensuring her safety, a silent guardian watching over her from the shadows.
⌞System message: Master!! You would've died if it weren't for me!⌝
Huh? Since when can this thing speak?? Yueting thought, her mind reeling with a dizzying array of possibilities.
⌞System message: ugh! Let's just continue on, there should be a village nearby, master.⌝
Yueting nodded as she stepped off the cloud like thing that caught her. upon looking around she noticed she was on a small mountain, she could see a small village just a few minutes away. though it would probably take a while by feet. "say, system thing, can you make me fly over there or something?" yueting asks.
⌞system message: hm? well of course I can! but flying over there risks the villagers seeing us.⌝
yueting was really too lazy to walk over there so she thought of a way. when she was younger her mother used to teach her the 5 rules a child in their family must know.
𝑅𝓊𝓁𝑒 𝓃𝓊𝓂𝒷𝑒𝓇 1: 𝐻𝓊𝓂𝒶𝓃𝓈 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝓅𝓇𝒶𝒾𝓈𝑒, 𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓀𝓃𝑜𝓌𝓁𝑒𝒹𝑔𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝒶𝒹𝓋𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒶𝑔𝑒.
If the system had feelings then it would work on it aswell. "and there I was being proud of you for catching me, it seems I shouldn't have been." yueting says
⌞system message: GASPP! Fine, I'll help you!⌝
with that a horse spawned next to yueting, this really was like a game yueting thought. yueting hates horses though she had learned how to ride a horse when she was younger so she obviously wouldn't pass this opportunity. everything was better than walking this far. yueting hopped onto the horse and rid towards the village. It wasn't a big village for yueting since she came out of a modern world but if the history of her world was the same here then this village couldn't be considered that small.
when yueting arrived at the village she stepped off the horse and took it by its lunge line. she didn't know what time it was in this world, to be honest she didn't really care but she would definitely have to find something like an inn. when she walked trough the streets there were many signs, they were in a different language. "system, do you have a translator?"
⌞system message: master you've been really weird since you came back from earth, did your memory loss get worse?⌝
yueting couldn't just tell the system that she wasn't it's owner, because god knows what would happen to her. "yes." yueting says
⌞system message: hm.. I'll just have to assist you even more from now on!⌝
⌞translator activating..⌝
Now that the translator was activated, Yueting could read every sign as if it were in her mother tongue. There weren't many inns, but luckily, Yueting spotted one. Upon entering the inn, she was greeted by a friendly woman who appeared to be a demi-human, with what looked like cat ears on her head, while the rest of her body resembled that of a human.
"Good afternoon, adventurer! Are you looking for a place to stay for the night?" the woman asked.
"Yes, how much would a night's stay cost?" Yueting inquired.
"Well, with food included, it would cost a little bit more, but I'm sure that will be no problem for you, considering your noble attire," the woman replied.
Ahh... that's why everyone was looking at me, Yueting thought. "System, do you have money?"
⌞Yes, we currently have around 300 silver coins.⌝
"I have my horse outside. Do you have a place for it too?" Yueting asked.
"Yes, of course! Follow me to the counter so we can look at the costs," the woman said."Okay, so let me start by saying, you can call me Akari, and I'm the owner of this inn," Akari introduced herself.
"I'm Yueting," Yueting responded.
"Oh, that's a rather rare name. I've never heard it before," Akari remarked.
"Yes, I'm not from around here," Yueting explained.
"We always welcome new faces. Now let me explain the costs. For just you, it will be 4 silver coins, for the horse 3, and for food for both of you, it will be 3 silver coins. So, all together it will be 10 silver coins. Is that alright with you?" Akari asked.
"Mhm, that's fine," Yueting replied.
"Perfect! Then here's your key. I'll bring in your horse in a few minutes," Akari said.
Yueting walked up the stairs to her room. "Room 7... where is it?" she muttered to herself. "Ahh, here it is," she exclaimed as she found the room. With the key, she opened the door. As expected, it wasn't as modern as in her original world, but that didn't matter much to her. Yueting lays down on the bed to take a break, but just as she was about to fall asleep, the system sent a notification.
⌞Reminder: It's time for your daily diary entry!⌝
Just as Yueting was about to open her eyes, a big book hit her right in the face. "Ow!" she exclaimed, taking the book away from her face and touching her nose, which got slightly hurt by the thick book. Who the hell has a diary this big? Yueting wondered. I mean, maybe there's something helpful in here...
Yueting opened the diary to the page with a bookmark. It didn't resemble a diary about adventures, but rather a school book with different chapters labeled by the worlds, each world having a whole section filled with its creatures, known people, herbs, techniques, and more. It was like a guide prepared for someone else. Yueting began to read the page that was marked by the bookmark; it was a letter.

It seems Kyo had found the right person to give the necklace to; Yueting didn't necessarily want to escape her reality, but she also didn't want to continue living in it.Yueting looked through the book; one of the first pages contained an explanation about the system.

❝Meiyang's parting words lingered like a haunting melody, echoing through Yueting's soul. 'In another life,' she had said, 'perhaps things would be different.'❝
