This update may be a little earlier than usual but I couldn't wait to update this chapter!
Austin's P.O.V.
"You gonna tell us why you two are acting all weird?" I ask.
"Weird? We're not acting weird," Avery says, not looking at me.
"Yeah, I don't know why you would say that," Carter says, also not looking at me.
"Sure," I say, dragging out the word.
Ever since we woke up this morning Avery and Carter have been avoiding each other.
I don't really care but the red scraps across Carters face and the fact that Avery moved from the bed to the floor last night really confused me.
Today we would most likely have to explain our current predicament to the owners of house and I plan on trying to avoid talking at all.
It's bad enough I can't see my sister but to be stuck here with these idiots is awful. Avery isn't that bad but a little annoying sometimes. Shy guy bugs the hell out of me because he won't talk and won't tell us his name for some stupid reason. Carter is the worst though. I don't know what it is about him, but I absolutely do not like him.
"So I think we should talk now, yeah?" The eldest owner says, walking into the living room.
I groan and Avery gives me her 'are you kidding me?' look. I shrug, walking into the living room. They only have a sofa and a chair in the living room, so I didn't know how we were going to all sit down.
Before I could sit in the chair, to avoid sitting by anyone, the eldest sat down in the chair giving me a smile. I rolled my eyes and sat on one end of the couch. Everyone else came in with a cup of coffee, Avery having two in her hand. Before I could ask her why she handed me a cup of steaming black coffee.
I just looked at her as she sat down next to me. Why would she get me anything? I've been nothing but rude to her. I don't question or thank her for her bringing it to me as I take a sip of it.
Shy guy sits next to her and Carter and the youngest sit on the floor, backs against the tv stand. Not knowing all of these people's names was driving me crazy.
"So let's start out simple," the eldest said, clearing his throat. "I'm Zack and this is my brother Sam."
"I'm Avery," she said. Good I hope she does all the talking then.
"Carter."
"I'm Austin," I say, feeling like a kid at their first day of school.
We all look at shy guy waiting for his response. "So what's your name?" Zack asks.
He looks around almost scared that he has so much attention drawn to him.
"C-Charlie," he says. Finally, he speaks. I started to think he was deaf.
"Hmm, you don't seem like a Charlie," Sam says. "I thought it'd be something like Simon or Theodore or-"
"I swear if you say Alvin I will murder you," says Zack.
"I wasn't. He doesn't seem like an Alvin at all. Geez," Sam says, staring at his brother. What the hell is wrong with these two?
Zack sighs. "Ok, so what happened?"
We all look at each other, none of us wanting to speak and not knowing what to tell the man.
"Uh, ok," Avery takes a deep breath before speaking. "About two days ago we woke up in the middle of nowhere,"
I thought of when we awoke in the car and I attacked Carter. It seems like a lot more than two days ago.
"We were in a car together, but we don't know each other. We started walking to find a place where we could call our parents, to see if they could come pick us up," Avery says.
Why is she lying? This is going to come back to hurt us all. I want to tell Avery to just tell them the truth, but they'll probably kick us out if we do and I think Avery knows that.
"Well we kept walking and we just ended up here," she says, finishing the story. She looks around at all of us, wanting someone to say something.
"Alright here," he says, tossing me a phone.
I stare at him, confused. "What is this for?"
"To call your parents," Zack says, looking at me like I was stupid. Douchebag.
"Before that though," Carter says, hesitantly. "Where are we?"
"Like state?" Asks Zack, looking at Carter confused.
"Yeah," Carter responds, nodding his head.
"Border of Maine, why?" Sam questions.
Avery gasps, from beside me.
"What?" Zack asks, confused as to why we're kinda freaked out by this.
"N-nothing were just," Carter pauses. "Farther from home than we thought."
Wait did we all live in the same state? Or was Carter just speaking for us without thinking?
"Oh ok. Well you guys can stay as long as you need," Zack said.
Before thinking out quickly got out of the chair and walked out of the front door, with the phone in hand.
The hot air hits me as soon as I step out the door. The sun shines down, blinding me for a moment. The rain is light, but from the looks of the dark clouds coming this way it won't be bright out here for long.
"What the hell do you think your doing?" Carter says, coming out of the house. Avery and shy gu- I mean Charlie right behind him.
"Getting out of here," I say, turning on the phone.
He came over to me trying to rip the phone from my hand before he could I shoved him back. He hurried back to his feet glaring at me.
"Austin you can't just-" Avery starts to speak.
"Avery, I honestly don't care what you say. If you want to stay here be my guest but I'm leaving," I say, dialing the number I know by heart. Before I can click the call button the phone flys from my hand, onto the damp grass a few feet away.
I look at Carter who's directly in front of me.
"What the hell is your problem?" I yell, gripping the neckline of his shirt. He looks startled for a moment but quickly recovers and shoves me off off him.
"If you go back the police will be waiting on you. Not that I care much about you but I know you won't think twice about selling the rest of us out to save your own ass."
Well he wasn't wrong.
"So then what are we supposed to do then huh? Just stay here in the middle of nowhere for the rest of our lives? If we go to the police we might actually have a chance of-" I yell, before he cuts me off.
"A chance of what? Being locked away in a cell forever? No thanks," he isn't yelling anymore, but puts so much venom in his voice that doesn't really effect me at all.
"Guys," I hear someone say.
"So basically your saying stay here forever or be in jail forever?" I ask.
"I think staying here is way better," he says, eyes not leaving mine.
"That's debatable," Avery says, I let out a dark chuckle.
"How long do you think they'll actually want us here? They may have said we could stay as long as we need but we know they want us out as soon as possible," I tell him.
"Guys," the voice says, a little louder.
"We'll talk to them and-"
"And what? Tell them the truth?" I ask. " Yeah I bet they'll love that story."
The rain at that moment started coming down heavy as the clouds went over the sun. The air slowly turned colder than its been for a long time.
"If you have a better idea that doesn't involve possibly going to jail please tell me."
I glare at him. "I'm not staying here."
"Well it's not ideal," Avery speaks.
I look away from Carter to see Avery clutching the jacket that rested on her shoulders to keep warm even though it was hopeless. Then I noticed the jacket was a light blue and seemed to fit perfectly one her.
How in the hell did they manage to have clothes that fit her? Why do they have girls clothes anyway? Wait, I don't want to know the answer to that.
"Well if we can't go home and we can't stay here what are we going to do?" Carter asks, irritated.
"I-" I begin. "I don't know yet."
"Guys," say the voice again, but we don't pay attention to it.
"Great, well instead of running to call someone to pick you up can you stay here long enough for us to figure something out?" He asks.
Who does he think he is? Trying to tell me what to do, I don't have to listen to anyone.
"You don't get it. I can't stay here," I yell, getting angry again.
The wind picks us even more, making all of our clothes soaked.
"And why not? You don't want to? Because let me tell you something," he yells, his face filled with anger. "None of us want to be here."
"I have someone that needs me. I know you probably don't understand that because no one really wants you around but-" he cuts me off by shoving me against a tree I didn't even know was behind me.
"Guys." Can they shut up already?
"Who know what? I think your mad because of how no-" Carter begins to yell at me.
"Guys," a voice yells, we all look over to see that is was Charlie trying to get our attention.
Damn. Now that he's talking I want him to shut up.
"What?" I yell, aggravated.
He doesn't say anything, but holds up the phone to show an unknown number calling.
I take the phone from his grasp and click the answer button, putting it on speaker.
"Hello?," I say, curious to who was calling.
"Well, well, well if it isn't Austin. Is Avery around? I'd like to speak with her. But Carter would also do," The women says.
I scrunch up my face, confused.
I look over to both Avery and Carter to see their faces pale white, staring at the phone.
Ohhhhh who do you think is on the phone? What happened to Carter? 🙄
And Austin has a sister? Whatttttt 🤔
