Year Two |7
Rey's Point Of View
Poe, Paige, Rose, Finn and I were all sitting at the table eating dinner with Miss Holdo and the younger kids who live here.
"I'm afraid that I have some bad news," she said.
That didn't sound good.
"Our top founders, Han and Leia Solo can't have the fundraiser this year. They're still going to donate as much as they can, but we're going to have to make cutbacks," she continued.
We all hung our heads slightly, we all enjoyed going to the fundraiser each year.
~The Next Day~
I received a reply from Ben, I was a little worried that he would be angry with me for asking so many personal questions. Normally I was so excited when I received his letters, but I was nervous this time.
~💌~
Dear Rey,
I feel the same about your letters too, Rey. Thank you for the encouragement, I want to help my uncle... I can't give up on him.
Of course I don't mind, I'm honored.
J.R.R. Tolkien, is without a doubt my favorite author.
I like Lord of the Rings, Rangers Apprentice, Beren and Luthien.
I've wanted to be an author every since I can remember, that's one reason why kids made fun of me in school. My mom thought that it would be better in boarding school but it wasn't, in fact it was worse because I was stuck with them all the time. Thankfully I was able to graduate a year early.
I actually got inspiration for my book from my family's life, Anakin and Padme were my grandparents. Much of their story is true, except for the sci-fi fantasy parts that I added.
I have written for fun since I was five, but I started writing The Starlight Chronicles when I was nineteen, I finished it when I was twenty.
I was born early, when my parents didn't expect it. They were on vacation in their vacation home on a beautiful island called Naboo on a lake. I wasn't actually born in hospital, because there wasn't even a town on the island, so I was born in their vacation house. My father said that it scared him half to death because my grandmother died giving birth to my mother and my uncle. But thankfully everything was okay and they were able to call a doctor.
It's no trouble, you're my best friend, Rey, I would do anything for you. Do you mind doing something in return? Do you mind answering some of the same questions that you asked me, so that I can get to know you better?
I wanted to tell you that I'm going to have my first book signing in a few weeks. I know I said that I would probably never do one, but it's for a good cause, so I gave in. It's going to be at the book store across the street from the Ahch-To Academy. I would love for you to come, so that I could finally meet you in person.
Your friend, Ben
~💌~
I gasped as I read the last paragraph, I might actually get to meet him in person! It's nice having such a good friend even over long distances, but it would be nice to actually get to see him in person.
"What is it?" Rose asked, she and Paige were sitting on her bed painting each other's nails.
"Ben is going to have a book signing in a few weeks, and he wants me to come," I replied, barely able to contain my excitement.
"You mean, you might get to finally meet him?" Paige asked, smiling excitedly.
I nodded. "Do you think Miss Holdo would let me go?"
"I don't know why she wouldn't, Poe would probably be willing to drive you," said Paige.
I smiled, hoping they were right. I wanted to talk to Miss Holdo right away, but unfortunately she was gone for tonight and tomorrow, trying to raise funds for the orphanage. She left Poe and Paige in charge so we were planning on going a bit crazy while she was away, staying up all night and having a Lord of the Rings marathon, eating pop corn and ice cream, we were all looking forward to it. But now I wish that she was here so that I could ask her if I could go to the book signing.
I sat down at my desk to write a reply to Ben, and work on my paper for school.
