Year Two|4
Rey's Point Of View
I sat in the backseat of Poe's car next to Finn and Rose.
"How far have you gotten?" I asked them.
"We only have a few more chapters left," Finn replied.
"That's good because it's coming out in bookstores in just a few days, and I know that you want to read it before anyone else," I said.
"We better hurry then," Finn said.
"I think we'll finish it in time," Rose told him.
"I hope so," he answered.
"Do you like it so far?" I asked.
"I love it," Finn replied. "This book would definitely make my top ten."
"Who's your favorite character?"
"Probably Obi Wan," Finn answered.
"I like Padme," said Rose.
"What about you, Rey?" Finn asked.
"It's hard to choose just one, I like them all. But I guess if I had to pick, it would be Anakin. He inspires me, an orphan with now home who holds the fate of the galaxy in his hands. I suppose it just gives me hope that maybe I could become something more one day."
Finn and Rose both nodded.
~~~Later~~~
I sat in class during my English lesson. Sometimes I start to daydream about far away worlds during class, but every since I started reading The Starlight Chronicles I've been more interested in writing so I pay close attention during my English lessons.
I would love to come up with a story as wonderful as The Starlight Chronicles, but I don't have Ben's talents.
"I have a new assignment," the teacher said.
A groan went through the group of students.
"I want everyone to write a paper about their favorite author. You have two weeks, I expect your papers to be creative and have facts about your favorite author. I also expect to see good grammar and spelling."
The lunch bell rang and everyone began to gather their stuff.
"Class dismissed, just don't forget your deadline for your paper is in two weeks," the teacher reminded us.
We all nodded then headed out of the classroom. I walked down the hall with Finn and Rose.
"Who are you going to write about, Finn?" Rose asked.
"That's an easy one, J.R.R. Tolkien," he replied.
"I think I'm going to write about C.S. Lewis," said Rose. "You know, they were friends, perhaps we could work together and collaborate."
"That sounds great, hopefully the teacher won't mind."
"I'm sure she won't as long as we both write one," said Rose.
Finn nodded. "So who are you doing, Rey?"
"Well...I think I'm going to write a paper about Ben, he is one of my favorite authors and I can actually talk to him, so it should be easy. Besides I don't think that anyone else is going to do a paper about him."
Finn nodded. "That sounds great. Are you sure that he wouldn't mind you asking a bunch of questions though...isn't he busy writing his next book?"
"He said that he was never to busy for my letters... but I'll ask him just in case."
"He would probably be flattered that you chose him, he's a new author and you will probably be the first person to write a school paper about him," said Rose.
I nodded.
~~~ The Next Day ~~~
I received a reply from Ben.
~💌~
Dear Rey,
You know that I could never be too busy to write you, you're the only friend I have. Without you I would be completely alone, I have my uncle but he rarely speaks to me. I know that it is his grief that causes him to be this way, he hasn't been the same since his wife died. I've tried but it seems that I can't help him.
That's one of my favorite parts too.
That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. I did pour my heart into it, for you. All of it is for you, Rey.
Sincerely, your friend Ben

I smiled as I read the letter, especially the last words. Somehow despite the fact that he had said it many times, it was hard for me to believe that he was really writing these books for me when we had never even met face to face. I hoped that we could one day.
