Year Two |32
Ben's Point Of View
"Ben do you mind following us in your car? My van only has eight seats," Miss Holdo asked.
"I don't mind," I answered.
"Rey can ride with you so that you can spend some time alone together," Miss Holdo added.
"That sounds nice," I answered shyly.
Rey smiled at me and I timidly placed my hand on back and lead her to my car. I smiled at her and opened the passenger door for her.
I went around to the drivers side. "I have a surprise for you after the picnic," I told her.
"Really? You're so sweet. I feel bad, you have two things for me and I don't have anything for you. I'm a terrible girlfriend," she said sadly.
I shook my head. I knew that she didn't have much money, even if she was rich I didn't expect her to give me anything. I love her, the only thing I want is to spend every moment that I can with her. "You're my best friend and the love of my life. I'm so blessed to have you, just getting to spend the day with you is a gift to me."
"It is for me too," she answered. "So what do you want to talk about?"
"Whatever you want to talk about, sweetheart," I smiled at her.
"Let's talk about your book. How is it coming?"
"Pretty good," I answered.
"That's good. I can't wait to read it," she replied.
"Neither can I. I really need some advice on it from my number one fan."
She smiled at that.
We didn't have time to continue talking before we reached the park. As I parked, she moved to open her door but I stopped her.
"That's my job," I told her gently, then I got out and opened the door for her, then reached my hand down to help her out of the car.
She smiled up at me. "You spoil me too much."
I smiled back at her. "Well that's my job too. I am your boyfriend after all, you'll just have to get used to it."
She took my hand and I gently pulled her to her feet. She smiled at me before tiptoeing to kiss my cheek.
Rey's Point Of View
After we had finished eating, Ben spoke quietly to me so that no one else could hear. "Rey can I give you your surprise now? Can we go somewhere to be alone?"
I smiled. "Of course."
"Miss Holdo, I was wondering if I could take Rey for a walk through the park?" he asked.
"Of course you can. You two can take as long as you like. If we're not back when you return, we went back to the orphanage," she answered.
Ben nodded, then stood and offered me his hand. I took it and let him pull me up to my feet.
We walked hand in hand, not saying anything for a while. I wonder what he has planned.
After a little while he led me to a large oak tree and we both sat down in the shade.
"Close your eyes," he whispered.
I shut my eyes tightly, waiting for his surprise. I felt him placing something in my hands.
"Open," I heard him say.
I opened my eyes to find a leather journal. "What's this?" I asked curiously, as I opened it.
"It's my book. I finished it, I just need to type it. But I thought that I would let you read it first. That way you can tell me what you think," he said.
"That's the best surprise ever!" I exclaimed, unable to contain my excitement. I placed my hand on his cheek and pulled him into a kiss.
It took him a moment to start kissing me back as I had caught him off guard. I pulled away and smiled at him.
I handed him the book. "Will you read it to me?"
He nodded and I snuggled into his arms and listened for hours as he read the story to me.
I cried a few times, during the sad parts of the story, especially at Padme's death. When he noticed me crying, he hugged me and placed a kiss on the top of my head before he continued reading. I loved listening to him read, especially his own writing. His stories always made me feel closer to him, like I could actually journey into his imagination and experience the things that he loved and dreamed about.
"So what did you think of the story?" he asked as he finished reading.
"It was really good, probably my new favorite," I answered.
"I'm sorry about the sad ending. After reading your fan fiction I was worried I would break your heart," he replied.
"It was really sad, but I still liked it. I wouldn't change anything," I replied.
"Are you sure? Because I can change it, if you think I should."
"No. I like it, besides you should write it the way you want it to be," I told him.
He smiled at me. "Have you forgotten that I'm writing this book for you?"
I reached up and kissed his lips. "And I love it because you wrote it from your heart."
He kissed me again. "That's good, I just don't want to disappoint you."
