Rey's Point Of View

I sat down at the dinner table, after we had been eating for a few moments, Miss Holdo cleared her throat.

"In a few weeks three more kids are going to move in," she said.

"How old are they?" Rose asked.

"All three of them are ten, ironically," Miss Holdo replied.

I smiled, I had kind of missed having younger kids at the orphanage, but I hope they find homes soon.

~The Next Day ~

It was Saturday, so I slept a little later than usual, but not too late. Weekends are the only time I can spend all day writing and reading, and now that I've got Wattpad, I can talk to Ben as well.

When I came into the kitchen, I found that Miss Holdo had made chocolate chip cookies. She only made those on special occasions.

"What's the occasion?" I asked.

"You forgot?" Miss Holdo asked. "Today is your birthday."

I blushed embarrassed, I can't believe I forgot my own birthday, I've just been daydreaming a lot lately, I can't seem to stop thinking about Ben.

"Happy birthday, Rey!" Finn exclaimed.

"Thank you, Finn," I answered.

"After breakfast we were planning on eating snacks and having a Lord of the Rings marathon," said Poe. "Since it's your favorite."

"And we're watching the extended edition," Finn added.

"Who wants to watch the theatrical version when they have the extended edition?" Rose asked.

"Not me, that's for sure," Finn replied.

"Me either, that sounds great guys," I smiled at them.

After breakfast we all went to the living room and watched Lord of the Rings while we ate popcorn and other snacks. I'm surprised that Miss Holdo didn't say something about us eating Cheetos, Finn got orange crumbs all over the carpet, we'll have to vacuum before she sees the mess.

After The Return Of The King ended, it was a little late, but Miss Holdo had made a chocolate cake and we all went to eat it.

It took a few moments for Poe to light all seventeen of my candles.

"Make a wish and it might come true," Miss Holdo told me like she did every year.

I've almost given up on wishes, my whole life I've wished for my parents to come back for me, but they never did and now I've come to realize that they never will. But there's still one wish that I'm holding onto, that I'll get to meet Ben.

I closed my eyes as blew out the candles, wishing with all of my heart that I could meet Ben, as much as I wanted my parents to come back, I wanted to be with him more, because unlike my parents he always made me feel loved.

I wish that he could have been here today, if I had remembered that today was my birthday, I would have invited him.

"What did you wish for, Rey?" Finn asked me.

"Finn, I tell you every year, I can't tell you or it might not come true," I told him.

"Thank you for the cake, Miss Holdo, it was delicious," I told her when I was finished.

"You're welcome," she answered. "I have a gift for you." She passed a wrapped package to me.

I tore the paper to reveal a red velvet box, it had a lid that opened on the top and a drawer on the side. I lifted the lid to find envelopes and stationary, inside the drawer were a few beautifully stylized pens and something that made me even happier, postage stamps, I was running out.

"It's a letter writing kit, I know how much you like writing letters," Miss Holdo explained.

"Thank you, I'll use it the next time I get a letter from Ben," I told her.

She smiled at me. "You can use it now," she passed an envelope to me. "This came from him today."

I took the envelope, trying to act natural and not show how excited I was by seeing it.

"Before you start working on your letter, we all pitched in to get you a little something," said Poe.

Paige smiled, passing a box to me.

"Open it! Open it!" Finn and Rose both said in unison.

I smiled wondering what they could have possibly gotten me that would make them so excited. I opened the box and pulled out a black T-shirt, I didn't understand why they were so excited, until I pulled it out and saw that it had a picture of Anakin and Padme on it, the same picture that was on the cover of Rewrite The Stars.

I gasped and jumped slightly. "I love it, I didn't even know that they made T-shirts."

"It just came out," Poe replied. "Me and Paige saw it at the mall yesterday, and we had to buy it for you."

"Thank you so much," I replied.

~Later~

I sat down at my desk and opened the letter from Ben.

Dear Rey,

I would get butterflies too, in fact I get them sometimes when I read your letters.

I had a dream about you once, it was last year not long after you started writing me. I saw you on Tatooine, you were silhouetted against the twin suns so I couldn't see your face, I wish I could see you so that I could dream about you. But no matter how you look, you will be beautiful to me.

It's okay to be afraid Rey, but you don't have to be. Sometimes when you've been broken it can make it hard to love, I say this from experience. But love is the only thing that can make us whole again.

I smiled, imagining that I could feel his arms around me even though he was far away.

I wrote a reply with my new letter writing kit, then I logged in to my Wattpad account. I promised Ben that I would write him on Wattpad today, I don't want him to think that I forgot about him.

Rey:
Hi, Ben. I'm sorry I didn't get to write you until now, I forgot that today was my 17th birthday. My friends had a Lord of the Rings marathon planned.

Ben:
Happy birthday! A Lord of the Rings marathon sounds awesome! Was it the theatrical version or the extended edition?
If I knew that today was your birthday, I would have sent you something, I'm sorry 😔😔😔

Rey:
It was the extended edition, I used to watch the theatrical version until Finn got the extended edition, then we never went back.
Ben, it's not your fault, you didn't forget or something. I was the one who forgot. Besides you did send me something, and I actually got a letter writing kit today that I used to reply to your letter.

Ben:
Yes, just when you think LOTR can't get any better, you watch the extended edition.
I still feel bad, I'm your boyfriend, I should give you something nice for your birthday. What else did you get besides a letter writing kit, so I don't accidentally get something that you already have.

Rey:
My friends gave me a t-shirt with Anakin and Padme on it.
But you don't have to get me anything.

Ben:
So much for my plan, they're supposed to come out with more designs, but they're not out yet. Honestly I don't why they decided to make t-shirts. I don't think my books are popular enough to have t-shirts, but I signed my books over to a publishing company and they're in charge of all of the promotional stuff, they probably wasted their money on it though.

Rey:
Well, at least I got to get one. I love it, it reminds me of you.

Ben:

I think I have a plan for your birthday present.

Rey:
What is it?

Ben:
I'm not going to tell you, you'll have to wait and see.

Rey:
I can't wait

Ben:
Me either.

Rey:
It's getting late, I have to go, but I'll write you tomorrow.
