Chapter 7
Right outside the door to Ms. Impa's room Link put Zelda down, thinking about how awkward it would be if he walked into a classroom carrying someone. Even worse, how awkward it would be for the WHOLE CLASS to see him carrying someone. The thought of it alone made him shudder. But, she was Zelda after all. It wouldn't be that bad...
"Well, looks like this is the last stop. Everybody off," Link said in a mock train conductor's voice, putting Zelda down.
Zelda smiled, hesitating for a moment before hugging him. "Thanks, for everything. Well, except for the alcohol that you poured ever so graciously onto my cut. Was that necessary?"
"If you don't want it to get infected then yes, I would say that it is VERY necessary Zelda," he replied, chuckling and hugging back.
"Ahem," a voice called out, making the Hylians jump. "I don't mean to interrupt but, aren't you two supposed to be, um I don't know, inside my classroom?"
Zelda looked up, spotting Ms. Impa who was looming over her and Link.
Well... This is awkward...
"Yes, Ms. Impa, sorry," Zelda said, walking inside.
Zelda sat down in an empty desk by the window, Link sitting in the one next to her.
Now, Ms. Impa didn't like assigned seats but, the moment she saw the pair sitting together she knew it wouldn't be good, academically wise that is. She immediately began scanning the classroom looking for someone to move when her eye landed on a red-haired boy.
"You," she said, looking at the distracted boy.
Ugh, what was his name again... Wait, it reminded me of a bird, a small bird... Gr- Uh... Oh yeah, Grouse... No, that's not right... Um... Gr- Groose, that's it!
The white-haired teacher cleared her throat, looking at the group of boys goofing off in the back of her classroom. When none of them paid her any mind, she grabbed her pointer and hit it against her desk at the front of the classroom.
A loud THWACK rang out in the classroom, causing everyone's heads to turn and look in the direction of where the sound originated.
"That's much better," Ms. Impa said, holding the stick in her hand and walking over to where the boys sat. "Now, Mr. Grouse, I do happen to be very familiar with using a spear so, would you like me to show an example next time you're not paying attention?"
His face slightly flushed as a few of his peers laughed at the nickname.
"As I was saying while you were rudely ignoring me, I'm moving your seat for today. New kid... What's your name," their teacher said, turning to the pair of Hylians sitting together.
"Um, Link."
"Well, Link. You'll be switching seats with my dear friend Groose over here," she said, pausing to look between the two boys. "Well... Go on."
"Tch, not a chance grandma," Groose said, leaning backward in his chair as the boys behind him started laughing.
"Excuse me?!"
"You heard him grandma, or maybe you didn't, hearing aids are kinda expensive these days. Let me help you there, he said 'not a chance grandma'. Did you hear this time?"
Ms. Impa turned on her heel and walked to the front of her classroom, sitting on the edge of her desk. "Due to your incredibly immature behavior, you have just earned two hours of detention for you and your little friends. I hope in that time you'll learn about why my hair is like this since you like to make such a joke of it," she said, pausing and narrowing her eyes so only a sliver of red was shown.
"Since you clearly don't know, my ancestors have been aiding the royal family of Hyrule for centuries dear Grouse. It was only when we developed a government that my family was pardoned from their duties. But, since that doesn't matter much to you, while the rest of your class is finishing up the unit on Hylia and the creation of this land, you'll move on to the next one; Sheikah History."
Groose sat still, a look of horror washed over his face mirroring that of his friends. "B-but that isn't fair-"
"Is it Groose, is it really? I seem to think it is also unfair how you try to mock me over my hair color when it clearly shows I belong to a strong and important bloodline. Now, since you seem to think you're so funny, I'd advise you change seats with Link before I show you how funny I can be."
The two awkwardly exchanged glances before switching seats, with Link being on the other side of the classroom and Groose sitting next to Zelda.
"There, that's much better, now, to start today's lesson," she said, turning to the board and starting to read what was on it.
Zelda looked across the classroom at Link a little hopelessly. She couldn't believe she was literally being forced to sit next to the worst possible person.
She snuck a glance at Groose, watching him out of the corner of her eye until he turned and noticed, winking at her.
Ugh, he's just disgusting... Out of everyone, why did it have to be him? I would've much rather have to deal with the obnoxious purple color of Hilda, otherwise known as the 'Queen Bee' and 'Savior' of the school. Instead, I get stuck with this jerk... Thanks a lot, Ms. Impa...
The thought of having to sit next to someone like him until the end of the period agitated her more than anything.
Looking towards Link one last time, he caught her glance made a face mimicking a sad puppy, causing Zelda to mouth the words "I know" before quickly turning back to the board before Ms. Impa decided to threaten her too.
That would be the last thing she needed at this time, especially after she had just caught them in the hallway not too long ago.
For the rest of the period, Groose spent his time doing a bunch of childish things to get Zelda's attention. She already knew what he was doing and ignored it, though, she couldn't help but smirk to herself when he stabbed himself with his pencil by accident. It must've hurt a lot due to how loudly he hissed in pain. Even Ms. Impa noticed and didn't feel bad, the look on her face literally said 'serves you right'.
While packing up the rest of her things to go, she noticed Link waiting for her outside the classroom and shoved her stuff in her backpack, not worrying about whether it'd get messed up or not before running to him.
"Hey, that period was torture, wasn't it," he said, chuckling and rubbing the back of his head slightly.
"Yeah, I can't believe she swapped you for Groose, that's like the worst trade deal ever in the history of trades-"
"Trust me, I know," the blonde haired boy responded, starting to walk off down the hallway with Zelda in tow. "Imagine how it would've been to sit next to those guys and be 'the new kid'... Not so fun if you think about it.."
"Aww, did they bother you?"
Link chuckled and brushed off her question. "It's nothing I can't handle, besides, I'm not afraid to have a little accident with a bow one day."
The look Zelda gave him was of shock and fear, causing him to smile and nudge her slightly. "Hey, I'm only kidding, I won't shoot anyone! Besides, do you really think I want to get sent back to Forest earlier than I have to?"
At that, she smiled, resting her arm on his shoulder as they continued on down the hallway. "Heh, look who's getting attached to this place all of a sudden! I can only imagine how it'll be when you leave..."
"You could say that I guess.. But yeah, I'd have to admit, this place may be nothing like what I'm used to but I'm sure going to miss it.."
"Hey, no need to seem so sad, you're not leaving yet, we've still got two whole weeks left! That's plenty of time, right?"
"I guess you're right.. I should probably be heading to class, I'll see you late Zel."
~~Later that night~~
Link laid on the bed in his temporary home, holding a folded piece of paper between his fingertips and playing around with it. The scene from earlier that morning still played in his head.
Link was just about to walk off to his next class when he was stopped by Zelda who had grabbed ahold of his arm.
"Wait," she said hesitantly before shoving her hand into one of her skirts pockets and retrieving a folded of paper. "I thought I should give you this, I uh, well, I'll see you later..."
The blond girl turned and walked off to her next class, leaving Link standing in the same spot she left him in. Once out of his daze he carefully unfolded it, reading it and smiling to himself.
You're the missing 'Link' this school never knew it needed!
(XXX)XXX-XXXX
~Zelda :)
Once again the same smile was plastered on his face as he finally grabbed his phone and typed out a message before pressing send.
He sighed to himself, placing his phone down on his chest and staring up at the ceiling. It was so plain compared to his house back home where he lived with his aunt, no posters, no crappy old drawings, just a blank white canvas.
A reply came seconds later, the notification causing his phone to vibrate.
Link- Hey Zel!
Zelda- ...Link?
Link- Yup! We never really set up that date for archery practice, you still up for it?
Link- **day... Sorry- Autocorrect must really hate me today!
Zelda- Haha, it's alright, autocorrect really isn't my friend either so- Anyway, you're right! It's only Tuesday but I just asked my dad if we had any plans and he said any day this week is alright.
Link- I know right! Alright though... Hm, how about... Tomorrow after school. Is that okay with you or is it too soon...?
Link once again set his phone down on his chest, eyeing his bow that lay in the corner. He knew he really wasn't supposed to bring a weapon on his trip but his school practically begged him to. It "would be good for the next competition", or so they said. Now that he had met Zelda, it really didn't bother him much anymore to see that old thing in the corner, besides, it reminded him of his first tournament and how excited his aunt was. She cheered so loudly with little notice of the stares from the others around her!
Smiling at the thought, Link turned back to look at the ceiling, chewing on one of the strings from his hoodie.
This place wasn't so bad but it was definitely nothing like what he knew... No one can really predict the future so, who knows, maybe someday he'd actually find himself back here, for whatever reason that could be.
A sudden jolt from his phone brought him back to reality, immediately causing him to check the notification. He didn't mean to but, he sighed when he realized it was only from his friend Malon.
Malon- LINKKKKK- HOW HAVE YOU BEEN?!! Look at you, being all adventurous and everything, don't think I haven't seen those pics you posted on Instant! Don't even get me started on your stories on TimeLine!
Link- Haha, stalker much Mal?
Malon- Nope! Just checking on mah precious fairy boy! Soooo- Who were those girls in the background of that last pic? Got a girl now... Or two?!! *wiggles le eyebrows*
Link- MAL- I believed in fairies when we were like FIVE... Stop this. Also, no, just because I go somewhere new doesn't mean I'm going have a girlfriend, maybe they were just some random people walking by. >_<
Malon- Heh, seem pretty close for "random people walking by"... >_>
Malon- Whatever though, I'll find out eventually.
Link- Alright, don't be disappointed when you don't find anything interesting Mal.
Link- How's Mido though, is he still trying to boss around the fencing team?
Malon- Ha, you already know it! Ol' shortie is still at it- I wonder when he'll finally learn.
Link- I know right, tell me about it- He's lucky his dad is the coach or he'd be seriously hurt...
Link put his phone down once more, only to get another notification, this time from Zelda.
Zelda- Sure thing! Tomorrow is perfect, I heard there'll be really nice weather!
Link- Alright! Write it down somewhere so you don't forget! I don't want to be stood up now lol
Zelda- Haha, okay! I wrote it on my arm so I'll see it first thing in the morning! Welp, time for me to go to bed. I'll tell Saria to wait for you tomorrow, you can walk with us if you want.
Link- Alright, thanks! Night Princess XD
Zelda- Night night Mr. Hero lol
Link pulled up his sleeve and looked down at the writing on his arm.
Archery with Link! Don't be late or make a fool of yourself-
He smiled to himself, pushing the fabric back down to cover it.
If she only knew...
