Chapter 3
In the rest of her classes before lunch, no matter what had happened, Zelda wasn't able to focus. That boy wasn't much of a help either.
Where'd he come from? I can't believe I hadn't even seen him in the hallways before, or maybe I did and I wasn't paying attention. Anyway, it's strange, he seems, somehow familiar. I feel like I've somehow met him before, did I? I can never be sure, I've met too many people, then again, if I did ever meet him, how would I have been able to forget him?
A presence looming over her quickly caught Zelda's attention, her head quickly looking up from her drawings and classwork scattered around her desk.
Oh, it's only Ms. Fi. I don't know what I was so worried about.
"Zelda," said her blue-haired teacher. "Do you understand the speech we just read?"
"Yes, Ms. Fi. It wasn't that hard to understand, Ganondorf Dragmire liked to monologue a lot. All of his reincarnations' monologues were almost the same, except for a few changes. Maybe that was what caused him to be easily defeated by the hero."
"Ah yes, the monologues of Ganondorf were quite possibly what lead to his demise but, it could also be one of his strengths. As a villain, he was one the of the only evils this world had encountered that actually spoke of his reasons to wreck havoc on our beautiful land. But his monologues weren't written. He thought of them on the spot, and I admire him for that. He could've been a great English teacher if he would've just abandoned his wicked ways. That is what I'm here to teach you. I'm here to help you realize your strengths so that you can one day become a great public speaker, teacher, or even writer."
"But Ms. Fi, what if I don't want to be a public speaker or a teacher?"
"Then you could always be a writer, darling," Ms. Fi said, before covering her mouth and whispering. "I said it again, didn't I?"
Zelda nodded.
"Ah, I hope it doesn't become part of my everyday vocabulary unless then the principal would end up finding out about," she paused to clear her throat, symbolizing that Zelda already knew what she was talking about. "Please, do not advise anyone about this, de- Zelda."
"Alright, Ms. Fi, or should I say Mrs. Fi," Zelda said, winking at her teacher, causing Ms. Fi walk away giggling uncontrollably like a little girl.
Who would've guessed that someone like Mr. Ghirahim would fall for Ms. Fi? Well, who wouldn't have guessed? Actually a lot of people! The moment I saw them together in the hallway talking, I knew it would be the start of a new relationship. They're just so cute together. He even has an adorable nickname for her; he calls her "Bluebird" when they're alone, well when he thinks they're alone. Anyone would be easily jealous of the relationship they had, even that couple that was always sitting by the fountain together afterschool everyday!
Just thinking of their perfect relationship she couldn't help smiling to herself. She soon found herself drawing on her arm again, this time small hearts and even more flowers.
A few moments later she felt a tingling sensation on her right arm again. This time she sat still and excitedly watched as words formed on her wrist.
Woah, you seem really inspired today or were you just not done with the first picture?
Immediately grabbing her pen, Zelda replied in the free space she had on her wrist.
Today I think I'm just really inspired. I just can't stop thinking about how great nature and stuff is. Also, sorry I didn't reply earlier, your criticism shocked me a bit, well actually a lot. I really wasn't expecting it. Oh, and thanks for the compliment earlier, are you sure you like my art... a lot of people just think I'm childish for drawing stuff on my arm. I don't know, I think they're kinda right, maybe I should grow up.
She sat back, sighing while waiting for a reply.
Did they really like my art or were they just playing around with me? If they're joking I hope they're not mean about it...
Just after she finished her thought, her right arm started tingling again.
Oh, that makes a lot of sense, and it's alright. I didn't really expect you to reply to me, especially since I hadn't written anything before today. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Your art is AMAZING! What's not to like about it. It's not childish, trust me. Maybe they're all just super jealous of your talents! Don't give in to their harsh critisism, if you like drawing on your arm then that's all that matters, plus I like it too and I don't think it's childish.
After reading that, she couldn't help but smile. Did someone really think she was talented?
The moment she finished her thought, the bell rang, signaling that the period was over and it was lunchtime.
Zelda quickly jotted down a reply on her arm.
Thanks, it means a lot! I gotta go, it's lunchtime. Talk to you later?
Seconds later a response came.
No problem! I also gotta go, it's also lunchtime for me too. Sure, you seem really nice so I'll write again later, bye.
While smiling to herself, the Hylian pulled down her sleeve, hiding the writing on her arm. After, she quickly packed up the rest of her school supplies and put them back in her white messenger bag covered in drawings, rushing towards her freedom.
The moment she got in the hallway she was immediately swarmed by people on all sides.
While weaving through people and trying to avoid bumping into them, she was tripped by a Hylian girl with long purple hair.
"Hey," Zelda shouted, in response to being tripped.
She stumbled forward a bit, bracing herself for the impact of the cold, hard, floor she closed her eyes. But it didn't come. Sensing an arm around her waist she sighed and opened her eyes.
"Thanks, Saria," the Hylian girl said, turning around, a surprised expression appearing on her face. "Oh, it's you, you're the boy from earlier, right?"
He nodded in response to her question. "Yeah, I saw the whole thing with that purple-haired girl. She smirked right before she tripped you and glared at me when you didn't fall. These kids are really mean, how do you deal with them?"
Zelda started walking and gestured for him to follow her as she headed for the lunchroom. "I kinda just ignore them, if they don't see you interact with them then they mostly leave you alone. But when you do interact with them it entertains them and their friends so they keep going."
At that, the boy scoffed. "I'd like to see then try again then. Lucky for them they don't know me yet, they wouldn't like to be from my school."
"Oh, how is it there?"
"Well, for starters, everyone there is super nice, but I have well, a reputation of sorts there."
"Oh, how?"
"Oh, well, I hope this doesn't change anything but, I'm the captain of the archery team and the fencing team. We've won a few of the countrywide championships before."
"Really? I love archery. They once had an archery club in my middle school before but I never really got around to joining it. I am really good at fencing though. What school do you go to? "
"It's amazing that I was able to find someone with the same interests as me here. I could always give you archery lessons while I'm still here. Anyway, I come from Forest High, but when I heard about the student exchange program I signed up because I always wanted to experience life outside of my small community. That's how I ended up here. Everyone was super jealous when they found out I got sent to Time High but, it's just another high school to me.
"Really??? I'd love that, learning archery has always been my dream. Ohhhhhhhh you're from Forest. Time is way different from there."
"Sure thing, we'd just have to set up a date, er, a day for me to teach you. Also yeah, I heard. My friends all got split up, some got sent to Fire, Spirit, Shadow, Light, and Water."
"Oh."
Zelda's phone buzzed in her pocket.
"One moment."
She took out her phone and the screen lit up, revealing that she had received a text from Saria. She unlocked the phone to see the text.
Saria- Zel, hurry uppppp. You're taking forever. What happened, did you get lost??? Did Mr. Ghirahim stop you again or something???
She quickly typed out a reply and put her phone back in the pocket of her uniform skirt then turned back to the boy.
"We should really be getting to lunch now. You can sit with me and my friend Saria if you want."
He nodded in reply. "Alright, thanks"
"No problem," Zelda said as they turned the corner and went into the staircase. "Oh, I forgot to ask you earlier, what's your name?"
"That's funny, I forgot to ask you the same question! Anyway, my name's Link," he said, smiling at her.
"Oh, you're named after that legendary hero aren't you?"
"Yeah, my parents were obsessed with history and the legendary hero."
"Oh, sorry if this is a personal question but, why'd you say 'were' did they stop caring about it after a while?"
"Oh, it's not that," he said looking down at his shoes. "They, uh, they actually died when I was a baby. That's why I said 'were'"
"Oh," Zelda said sympathetically, regretting that she asked that question. "I'm really sorry for your loss... if it helps a little, I'd like you to know that my mother died in childbirth."
"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss too," Link said. "Well, as you said, we should probably get to lunch. Anyway, what's your name since I already told you mine?"
"Zelda."
"Oh, you're named after the princess the hero protected," Link said, chuckling.
"What's so funny," Zelda asked, a bit defensibly.
"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking that it kinda makes sense why I helped you in the hallway, even though I didn't know it was you."
Zelda laughed. "Oh. I guess so. My mother really liked the name Zelda."
"I like it too."
"Thanks, I like the name Link, it suits you."
Link nodded. "Nice to meet you, Princess Zelda," he said, chuckling and offering his hand to her.
"Nice to finally meet you too, Hero Link," she said, shaking his hand and smiling.
