Week 2
Topic: Write a story that involves a countdown.
Title: Thank the Rain
When a person is born, they are born with a watch. That watch was like a part of you, like skin. Now, this watch wasn't a regualr watch that told you the time. No, tuis watch counted down the years, months, weeks, and days until you meet your soulmate.

These words and numbers flashed before Laurance as he stared at the tattoo-like watch on his wrist. The day when he would finally get to meet his soulmate was near. His soulmate, someone he would love unconditionally and they would love him back, hopefully. With that thought in mind, he closed up the library and headed home.

Excitement rushed through Laurance as he looked at his watch. 4 days left. Just 4 days left until he would get to meet his special someone. Smile on his face, he sipped on his hot chocolate, because who doesn't love hot chocolate, and flipped a page on his book.

To say that he was excited was an understatement. He was - he was - feeling ecstatic. A smile could not make its way out of his face. The people in the library got a little creeped out but, did he care? Nope.

Laurance could not sit still. It was not like him to not read books. He's a librarian for crying out loud! But, his nerves were getting the better of him. Reality hit him like a truck. He would be meeting his soulmate in 2 days. Isn't that something to be nervous about? It is, right? Right.

Laurance was losing it. Tomorrow would be the day. The day he would get to meet his soulmate. He made sure everything was in place in his apartment. Thank goodness it was a weekend. While cleaning, he started doubting some stuff. "What if they don't like me? What if they think I'm ugly? Oh my gosh I am ugly. Did I shower? Yeah, I think I did. Wait, what if they think I stink? Do they like books? What if they're a notorious serial killer that'll kill me and get all my things when I'm aslee--" His train of thought got cut off by a knock on the door. When he opened it, there stood Alex - short for Alexander - with a bag of chips in hand and a lazy smile on his face. "Dude, chill."

He felt a mix of emotions. His soulmate could come through those very library doors and--
The creak of the library doors caused him to turn his head abruptly to the sound, the action looking like it would snap his neck. A man came inside. He was really cute and anyone would think so, as well as men, gay, straight, the whole spectrum. The man walked towards Laurance and smiled at him. Laurance stared wide-eyed at the man and thought, "Is he... the one?" He dared to look at the man's wrists and sure enough, the man's watch read 0 days left. Laurance opened his mouth to speak but someone called out a name and the man's eyes left Laurance's. The man walked towards another man, probably the one who called him. Laurance watched as the watches of the two men faded and got replaced by ribbons. Their hands intertwined as the ribbon tied their hands together before it disappeared into a pure, white cloud. Tattoo-like ribbons now presented themselves on the wrists of the two men, the names of one another on their ribbons. "Tyler and Evan," Laurance read as the two men looked at each other with love in their eyes and teary-eyed smiles. He smiled to himself.
"That's why I didn't feel anything."

Laurance sighs as he enters his apartment. He has met various people today and not even one of them was his soulmate. He starts to think. Maybe his watch was malfunctioning. Maybe he wasn't going to meet his soulmate today. It could be on the next day, or week, or month...
Or year.
Disheartened, he walks over to his couch and just lies there. The pitter-patter of the rain slowly made its way to Laurance's ears. "Oh great," he thought, " the rain is doing the crying for me, yippee..." The rain gradually increased and soon it became a heavy downpour. Laurance didn't mind, it sort of relaxed him to some extent. When he was slowly slipping into unconsciousness, a series of knocks erupted from his door. Startled, he fell off his couch and made his way to the door. Opening it, his breath hitched as the person on the other side of the door smilled at him, cold and drenched in rain. Teeth chattering, the persin asks, "S-sorry to b-barge in b-b-but coul-could I st-stay here f-for a b-bit? Ju-just until the r-rain sub-subsides." Wordlessly, Laurance opened the door wide to let the person, who was a woman, inside. Once she was all the way inside, he closes the door and rushed to get her a towel. Saying her thanks, Laurance led her to his couch and made her some hot chocolate. While doing so, he learned that her name was Ashlee and he thought it was a really pretty name, but he didn't say this outloud. Sitting down next to her and handing her the hot chocolate, she smiled at him and he smiled back. Laurance's heartbeat increased and his cheeks flushed. He felt his wrist tingle and that's when he knew.
He found his soulmate.
