Title: It's Still Literature

Who says that fan fiction isn't literature? I have heard comments here and there that have said that it isn't proper literature. Well, I take offense to that. Most of you here know that I absolutely love and adore fan fiction. It has been my escape from reality along with things that, well, aren't fan fiction.  I could elaborate on those things (ahem, Haikyuu, ahem, BTS) but that isn't the point right now. The point is, fan fiction is still literature. Maybe some people think that it isn't literature because it isn't "original." Honestly, aren't all books just fanfics of other books? And hey, aren't "original" books made up of words? Well, fan fiction is made up o words too !!!! They're stories that tell something to the reader. I cannot count how many times I've cried and sounded like Jurassic Park when I'm reading fan fiction. I mean, yeah, some fanfics can be really... trashy (like mine, aMIRITE). Yes, I admit that some fan fictions can be so grammatically incorrect, the plot can be badly written, the flow of the story can be too fast or too slow, or it can make no sense at all. I mean, all writers need to start somewhere. I think that fanfics like that just need some constructive criticism. But there are those fanfics that just make you feel attached to everything in the story. Some, if not most fan fictions I read can be very professional looking and beautifully written. They're obviously well written and edited but it also means that the author has experience. Everyone needs experience, information and practice in the things we do. We can't be born to be good at writing. We need to practice it and gather more information and experience on it to be good at what we do. We all have room to grow, even those fanfics. Going back to the point, fan fiction is still literature because it can be read or said to or by people. Speaking of people, fan fiction is really popular, especially on the internet. A fan fiction is based off of an original work like an anime. Now, an anime already has a fandom and is recognized by a lot of people (mostly). If people recognize it and like it, they're more likely to come across it and read it. It's just the truth. Also, fan fiction can convey so many things. Things like anger, sadness, happiness, love, depression, fear and friendship. If you don't know me and see me reading reading fan fiction, to you, I would either look like a smiling idiot, sobbing troll or maniac screaming at her phone. You have not seen my true potential. Yet. Fan fictions make me feel like I'm in a whole new world (cue the song.) They make me feel what I feel towards original books. Honestly, fan fiction got me into reading even more. My vocabulary has expanded and I see some things differently now. Fan fiction has shaped me, that's why it's so close to my heart and why I think that it really is literature. Anyway, all stories have their flaws but it's really up to the reader to decide whether or not it is the literature they enjoy.
