Damien sat in the closed off room of the manor, anxiously watching Celine move things around. "Are you sure about this?"

She didn't look at him. "It's the only way for us to be safe Damien."

"I just... It doesn't feel right-"

"This place doesn't feel right!" She countered, looking at him, making him flinch.

"I know but... I feel like we should wait so I can tell Cassidy-"

"The longer we wait the worse it'll get and I'm not waiting!"

He watched her prepare this ritual.

"Are you joining me or not?"

His heartbeat madly in his chest as he stared at the foreign and strange set up. "I-I-"

"Damien. Yes or no."

He sighed, glancing away from her intense glaze. He knew he didn't really have much of a say at this point. "Y-Yes."

"Good."

He let Celine prick his finger and draw blood as she did the same to herself and set to work.

He felt himself grow tired and pass out only to wake in a dark void like space, a silver string tethered to him, leading somewhere beyond.

Celine was there too but... Something felt wrong.

"Celine? This is... safe, right?"

"Of course. We just need to do this for a couple minutes and-"

Damien froze. Celine didn't have a string. "Celine... Is this string important?"

She looked at him. "Oh. Yes. It's a safety net. It shows you are tethered to your body. I don't need one like you as I've done this before."

He gently ran his hand along it. "So I use it to go back?"

"Yes but only in an emergency."

He nodded slowly and let Celine continue.

He wasn't sure how much time had passed when he finally had enough. "Celine, I need to go back. I-I'm worried-"

"Damien, you can't. We're in the middle of this-"

"I'm sorry, I can't-" He turned and started to follow the string, gently tugging on it to follow it when suddenly he found the other end hanging loosely in his hand.

It was frayed as if it had been crudely cut.

He slowly turned to Celine and for the first time, he saw genuine fear in her eyes.

"...I'm sorry."

Damien didn't understand what she had meant until she showed him a view of the outside world and his body missing and Celine's looked possessed.

"I'm so sorry Damien..."

For possibly the last time of his life, Damien felt broken as he watched Cassidy and someone else wrestle the door shut, sealing their fate.
