Chapter Three: STYLE!!!
If you read a lot of books (which I'm sure you do, seeing as you're on a book-writing and book-reading website), then you'll have noticed that not all books are written the same way. This is because all writers have a style, a certain way they like to write things out. It's kind of like an art style, but with different kinds of lines.
But you might have known that already.
So, here's how to develop your own style!
1) Find a style you like.
2) Totally fuck it up.
3) Fuck it up some more.
4) There you have it!
(Yes, that was an art style post I found a long time ago.)
That's not all there is to it, but those are the basics. And by "fuck it up," I mean find some rules that you're okay with breaking. This means using run-on sentences (but artfully, not every single paragraph), listing things out of order (yes, there's apparently an order), the like.
For me, I find my main inspiration in Kurt Vonnegut's works. His style absolutely fascinates me. I love it a lot, and I find that I like to write that way, as well.
You, as a beginning writer (or maybe you're already working on your thirteenth book, I dunno), have so many amazing authors to choose from as your inspiration. Oh, and that's not even the best of it- You don't even have to have one.
That's right, folks- you can create your own style from scratch!!
It can be harder, but this means it's all your own. You put the rules into the style, you put the creative effort into it. It's all yours.
So do with that what you may.
Thank you to VaughanGirl for reminding me that this book even exists! Haha...
I promise I'll update this more. Really.
