Covers and Titles

Your cover and titles are the first thing someone sees when they see your book. It needs to be eye-catching and unique. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how good the writing inside is. If you have a crappy presentation, who cares about the rest, right?

We all judge books by their covers. It's an unfortunate truth.

Of course, what I'm saying may vary depending on what kind of book you're writing. From fanfiction to poetry to original writings, the titles and covers should vary widely and be as diverse as the genres themselves.

The title should be short and sweet. It should sum up the work in an interesting way without being more than five words. But also try not to be too exact. Say, if you're working on a Hamilton fanfiction, do not put "A Hamilton Fanfiction" as your title. That's boring. And please, use correct capitalization on your title. The first word should be capitalized, and every important word afterward should be as well.

Incorrect example: to Kill A mockingbird
Correct example: To Kill a Mockingbird

The cover should draw your readers in. It should be unique. It doesn't need to have the title of the book on it, but if it does, that's a plus. Surprisingly enough, you don't have to spend hours on the cover, unless you want to. It should depict your characters or a major scene from the story.

So... yeah!
