The Beginning
1. Think of what you want to write
In other words, think up of an unique plot that would have you stuck indoors with your eyes glued to the book if someone else was writing this.
This is probably one of the hardest part of being a writer. To find a plot that you would enjoy writing and other would enjoy reading. Trying not to make it cliché and boring.
For eg: Vampires. We have the Dracula kind of vampires on one end of the scale and the Twilight kind on the other end.
(Note: Whatever you do, DO NOT VENTURE into the Twilight zone of the scale)
So what about something in the between? Write about a vampire who is a normal teenager living amongst the humans. A world where magical creatures live along with the humans instead of away from them? They drink blood substitutes instead of human blood and get wicked sun burns that last for weeks if they go out into the sunlight.
The vampire boyfriend is begging on his knees for forgiveness as the girl wears silver studs and nose ring and eats garlic to keep him away cause she is pissed at him.
Just imagine.
So there are several ways you can twists an age old plot to make it into something new and interesting to read.
So your first job as a writer is to find a plot that catches your as well as the readers interest. Create one.
If anyone needs plot ideas, feel free to comment and I will try my best to help.
