Good Times and Bad Times

*fighting and minor injuries mentioned*

—————————

Cub woke up. It was still dark. But he could hear... was that Scar? That was weird. Scar fell asleep at 9 and woke up at 6:30, usually. He should be asleep.

Cub got out of his bed and walked into the hallway. He saw a light coming out from Scar's bedroom door. "Scar? You in there?"

He heard Scar mutter something, and the door opened. Cub stepped back a bit. Scar's pijamas were rumpled and looked 200 years old. His hair was messy and sticking out every which-way, and dark circles under his eyes. A blue hairbrush was in his left hand, his phone in his right.

Scar nodded at Cub, then put the phone up to his ear. "Yeah, B. Cub just came in. But I don't understand why you gotta come over NOW. It's..." Scar looked at his alarm clock. "It's 2:34 am, dude. I'm trying to sleep." A long pause. "Morning, ok." And with that, Scar hung up. He looked over at Cub. "Sorry about that. Brother's coming over for the day, I guess," Scar said, clearly annoyed.

"You have a brother?" Cub asked.

"Sure. He's my twin and really annoying."

——————————

At 6 am exactly, the doorbell rung through the house. Cub jumped out of bed and ran to the hallway, pushing his slippers on as he ran. Scar was standing right in front of the door, quickly adjusting his old hat. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and jeans. He looked like he had been up for a few hours. "Get some clothes on! He can't see you in your PIJAMAS! That's... that's ridiculous!" He hissed. Cub ran back to his room.

Scar opened the door, and a terribly familiar person looked back. "Hello, Bane. Come on in, I have pancakes ready," Scar said happily, plastering on a fake smile as he walked his brother to the kitchen.

———————————

When Cub walked into the kitchen, a weird sight met his eyes. There seemed to be two Scars talking about building over pancakes. "Um... hello, Scar and Scar's brother," he said.

One of the Scars, who looked slightly shorter, a dark blue shirt, and lighter hair stood up. "Hello! I'm Bane. Scar's brother," he smiled, shaking Cub's hand wildly. He sat Cub down and slid a stack of 20 pancakes over to him. Cub glanced over at Scar, who was smiling happily with a mouth full of pancake.

"Scar, can you pass the syrup? I kinda need more for this nice man. He must be starving." Bane asked. Cub noticed that this Bane was way nicer than Scar had said. He was nice and inviting, even if he gave Cub WAY too many pancakes.

Scar pushed a glass of syrup over and looked over at Cub. "Ok. Cub, this is Bane, my brother as mentioned earlier. Bane, this is Cub, my boyfriend."

Bane smiled. "Scar, I'm glad you got yourself a love interest for once. Cub, hello (and you better not hurt my brother) and I'm VERY glad to meet you!"

For the rest of breakfast, the 3 ate a total of 42 pancakes(mostly on Scar's part) and talked about ConCorp and how to grow a monopoly at the fastest speed. Once Scar had cleaned up, the trio went to the planning room to talk about other things and plot the best plan ever. As they sat down in some fluffy chairs, Jellie jumped out from under the large 'plan table' onto Scar's lap. He laughed, but his brother didn't. "Scar, you know the rule about the cats," he said. The other two frowned.

Cub's head whipped over towards his boyfriend. "Scar? What rule is he talking about?"

Scar sighed, ignoring Cub. "Bane, that was years ago. Mom is ok with cats now, I swear. Anyways, this is my home and I make my own rules."

"Scar! What rule?"

"Mom would kill you. I'll call her right now. Put that... THING down and say you won't own it anymore."

"Scar!"

"I keep Jellie no matter what. Anyways, Mom likes ME best. I'll get a clear way out of this." Scar started sweating. This wasn't planned.

"SCAR!"

Scar turned around, face red. "WHAT, CUB!?" He yelled.

Cub felt a twinge of fright. Scar NEVER got this angry. "What rule? About Jellie?" He said, trying to stay calm.

"No. Cats. That's the rule. No cats to own ever, ever, EVER!" Bane started laughing.

Scar stood up,  handing Jellie to Cub. "I WILL keep Jellie. I WILL!" Scar yelled, slapping Bane across the face. Cub shrank back in his seat. Bane's face was the angriest thing on earth.

"You did NOT JUST DO THAT!" Bane yelled.

Scar and Bane started fighting, turning into that part in movies where characters get into a fight and turn into a dust cloud, with punching arms and kicking legs the only thing you can see. Cub whimpered, and slunk out of the room.

——————————

All morning, and Cub heard crude remarks and other yells coming from the plan room. He tried to find something to do: read, count diamonds, play with Jellie, listen to music. It never drowned out the fight going on outside, however much Cub turned up the music.

It was 9 when Cub finally heard a door slam and a final yell from both brothers. He heard footsteps down the hallway, then a knock at his door. "Cub? Can I come in?"

Cub sniffled. "S-sure."

The door opened, and a beat-up Scar came in. Cub ran up and squeezed him. He would never let go. Ever. He would keep Scar safe from that Bane. "C-Cub! It's ok! I'm alive, and you are, too!" Scar picked up Jellie.

Cub looked up. Scar's face... Its emerald eyes shining right through the bruises and that deep gash that was so terribly familiar.

Scar placed his hat on Cub's head and smiled. "Cub, I'm sorry for being a jerk. I... I shouldn't have invited... HIM over. I was stupid." Scar's eyes started tearing up.

"And I'm sorry for not butting in when you guys were fighting. I shouldn't have run off like that." Cub whispered.

The two hugged each other a bit longer before Scar started to leave the room. "Scar? What are you doing?" Cub said, following him and Jellie.

Scar put Jellie in Cub's arms and laughed. "I gotta bandage up these injuries, but then I'll bake a MILLION pancakes!" With that, he walked into the restroom.

Cub took Jellie to the kitchen and poured her some cat food. He got out a few small bowls and ingredients, then started making some cherry jelly.(look it up, it's a thing)

Scar walked in a few minutes later with bandaids on here and there. He smiled at Cub, and started mixing up some pancake batter.

The two spent the day like this, baking and eating to their heart's desire. Bane visits every once in a while, and the fight is lost in the background of fond memories now. The 3 boys get along better, Bane is ok with Jellie, and I need to publish this.

The End.
