Chapter Twenty-Three: Kachow
I wholeheartedly accepted the apology Adam sent me in place of his best friend. He was not at fault, but I did prevent myself from visiting his place again, even when he asked me to. I also had an excuse ready at the tip of my tongue, saying that I was busy or I wanted to hang out at some other place.
When Julia, who came back two days ago, practically kicked the door open when I was leisurely typing on my laptop, I started guessing for the reason why her eyes were wide as saucers and her body was puffing for air.
Meg was right behind her and she placed a hand on her shoulder to pull her back, "Somebody's waiting downstairs for you."
"Adam?" I questioned because who else could elicit a reaction from my roommate aside from him.
"Yes," she replied, although it was obvious her composed disposition was just a façade, "And two other people."
It didn't take long for everything to click and I rushed past them, going down the stairs as quickly as my legs would allow me. Standing right there by the entrance was the mentioned boy, looking as handsome as ever, and the couple who got the residences of this dormitory whispering.
Heart and Axel looked like they were ready to strut the streets of London with their long coats and fashionable accessories. Her face appeared just like how I see her in the billboards and magazines, makeup hiding her imperfection and flaws while the soft pink of her lips was covered in a fierce red. Axel's mischievous glint was gone and was replaced by a lazy look that was attractive but could also send anybody running.
And Adam, as calm as he was compared to the other two, looked intimidating as well because of his height and this caused the trio to appear like a force to be reckoned with.
When he spotted me, a grin overcame his features and he coughed out to his best friend who couldn't make it any more obvious that the last place she wanted to be was here. She sighed, advancing towards me with her high heels emphasizing her tall stature.
"I'm sorry, Sienna," she let out and I had to look up at her to see her face, "How I acted was completely wrong but I'm infamous for being impulsive."
She was chewing her words and her tense state made her apology even more insincere. Axel chuckled behind her, finally removing the spell of being untouchable. She turned to him to shoot him a glare and he was unfazed by this, joining her side and then leaning down to whisper something, "Valentine and I are going out to town, how about you grace our friend over there a date?"
"What?"
"Get your coat and let's get out of here," Heart deadpanned, low enough so only I could hear her. I didn't want to do anything to upset her more so I ran back upstairs because I was just ticking off the checklist of her traits and pretty sure impatience was part of that list.
But of course, I didn't want to go outside in some silly cotton shorts and besides, Axel implied that he and Heart will leave Adam and I alone so a large part of me was hoping that we will go on a date. So I traded my shirt for a long sleeved dress and my shorts for a thick pair of black leggings. My fluffy lounge slippers were replaced by my ankle boots and I snatched my coat on the way out of the door.
With a promise to both Julia and Meg that I will explain why two A-class celebrities were looking for me when I get back, they let me off with a wave goodbye. We started to walk back towards the apartment and when it was just the four of us alone, Axel let out a groan, "Finally!"
"They were acting like they have never seen humans before," Heart rolled her eyes, linking her arms with her boyfriend, "I couldn't even say sorry properly because of them."
Wait, what?
"They're used to the spotlights but they can also reach their limits," Adam explained next to me once he saw my baffled expression, "Her apology was sincere."
I snapped my head towards his direction and he flashed me a soft smile. My confusion dropped, only to be replaced by a small blush at the sight of him. Aside from our mini reunion when he opened the door to his apartment, we were both holding back because of the blonde celebrity walking in front of us.
I felt him fumble for my hand until it was now in his grasp, resting our entwined holds between us.
Better.
"Sienna, let's talk some time," Heart looked over her shoulder to look at me, "Girl talk and don't worry, your man over there already gave me a hefty scolding for the way I acted."
Adam laughed at her words, moving forward and tugging me along with him, "Your temper always get the better of you, Soph."
"And I've been on the receiving end of Valentine's outburst," Axel quipped and although she wanted to look annoyed, her scowl was quick to melt into a smile when he ran a soothing hand on her arm.
"I'm sorry if it's rude to ask," I spoke, catching all of their attention, "But I noticed that you two always refer to each other by last names. Why?"
Then they shared a knowing glance, the smiles and laughter being traded gave me a small hint. It was an inside joke these two shared and from the way they looked at each other made a small pit of envy in my stomach. Not because I have feelings for either of them, but because they have something I only see in the movies or read in those corny romance novels.
Their relationship was far from dull, they've made a life out of posing for the camera and constantly being surrounded by people. Even though their faces showed how tired and worn they really were, there's still a bounce to their step and evident happiness in their features.
They argue – a lot – something I've picked up from Adam's tales and after witnessing it first-hand. But I was nothing but impressed of how quickly they snap back together with forgiveness already in their mouths even in the midst of a fight. That tender declaration of love coming from both of them was completely genuine, even being award winning actors, you cannot fake that.
Even if she doesn't want to show it, he can turn her into a flustered mess in an instant or how her fierce disposition quickly transform into a lovesick puppy once he holds her. And him? He was completely wrapped around her finger, never wanting to be apart.
They were one of those kinds of couples that I've always enjoyed writing about.
So that was why I was completely shocked when they answered my inquiry, "We used to hate each other."
"Despise was the term I used often," Heart giggled, leaning more onto him, "You should see us back then, we couldn't be in the same room without having a yelling match or glare-off."
"She kicked me on the first day we met," he recalled with a nostalgic sigh, "Though, in her words, I was an asshole back then."
"Still are," she smirked though it was full of playfulness, "But unfortunately, I chose to be yours."
Just imagine being in a whirlwind romance like theirs? Now I know why Adam have absolutely refused to come between them, they really were meant to be for each other. She was undeniably happy – even when they were fighting, the anger never reached her eyes. Her furrowed brows might be a cause of alarm, but one look at him and all her arguments will die in her throat.
We reached the building and I expected them to go inside with us but they just waved us goodbye as they entered the car parked in front. I turned to Adam and he smiled invitingly, tugging me along towards the elevator.
When we got inside his apartment, I almost burst out laughing when he took out the lasagna from the oven where he left to keep warm. He grinned at me sheepishly as he proudly stated, "Made from scratch."
"Only five months late," I snorted jokingly, "No big deal."
He chuckled while he grabbed two plates and started to portion it. I took the liberty of opening his fridge to get us something to drink and I lifted a brow at the wider selection of beverages. It was usually just a pitcher of water and a few cans of soda, but now it ranged from sparkling water to an expensive bottle of champagne.
I guessed that this was Heart's doing. Considering that two of the wealthiest celebrities under twenty-one were currently staying in this place, this should be no surprise to me.
"What do you want?" I questioned, peering through the shelves. When he responded that I should be the one to choose, I smiled while taking two cans of soda. Let us ignore the champagne and even the wine.
I've been here so many times, so it was weird to think that this would be the first time that I would eat on the dining table we purchased way back during our first week in the area; for no other reason aside from the fact that we usually ate our meals on the couch with the coffee table.
He brought out a scented candle and placed it in the middle, lighting it up and filling the air with a peppermint aroma, perfectly reminding me of the holidays. I mused that it must be some left over – something he hasn't managed to completely burn before he left to go home.
It was a crazy mix match but honestly, we've already tried a fancy dinner at an expensive restaurant and a rowdy night in a frat party, so something like this was already amazing in its own right. I wasn't going to say that I'd rather have this than the elaborate date with glimmering chandeliers hanging above us nor do I prefer that to simple nights in.
Sometimes I was in a mood for this and sometimes I wanted the other.
He pulled up a chair and I seriously had to check myself in order to keep my amusement at bay. His effort was extreme on this one so I wanted to show my appreciation.
I forked a little bit of lasagna into my mouth and I hummed happily at the taste. Well, I guess the hype was really worth it since this was surprisingly good, "Alright, chef, I admit this is amazing."
He grinned contentedly, eating his own meal as silence basked between us. Just a few more days until classes start again, and although the first few weeks will be quite lax, it will all come boiling down to the fact that we wouldn't see each other as much as we want to. Adding more insult to the injury, we've spent the holidays so far apart and during the majority those times, we refused to even speak to each other.
"I'm sorry," I muttered, "For being so ridiculously irrational. I should have known better than to believe some tabloid article."
"No," he shook his head, "I should apologize for being so jealous after a single picture. And at the end, I never heard the story of how much you had fun back home."
I perked up when he reminded me of that wonderful night out. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can beat the rush of being home and sneaking out at the late hours of the night. He urged me to tell him all about it and I did, because it was an excuse to reminisce it all over again.
Of the city I love wherein I fell in love for the first time.
"Then he took my hand and pulled me away," I smiled softly, finally reaching the part wherein Justin dragged me from the group. This was the first time his posture stiffened after chuckling and nodding throughout the events prior to this.
But I didn't want to be the girl to exclude it, because it was what really happened and I would be lying if I left it out, "He took me to the rooftop of his apartment building and the scene was gorgeous, just like how I remembered it."
By now I knew he wanted nothing more than to stop me. Still, he remained silent with his vice grip on his cutlery, perhaps remembering the last time he allowed envy to open his damn mouth for him. Of course, I put him out of his misery, "That's when I realized that he can never give me what you can."
"What?" he questioned, his eyebrows knitting together in that adorable way that made me smile.
"Before I even stepped on this country, I was warry of everything. Then you came, sat next to me on that plane, and relieved me of any nervousness. With him, I was always on a high of fun and energy, but you?"
I halted for a moment to take a deep breath, my eyes looking right into his brown ones, "You calmed me down when I needed to the most. You brought me back on track, especially with the writing part, and I will always be thankful for it."
He heard the sincerity in my words and his expression relaxed, smiling at me, "I want to thank you as well."
"For what?"
"Because you didn't turn away when I said that I loved Soph."
It was so crazy that when we met each other, we had our individual loves that we had such a hard time moving on from, "You're welcome."
And there it goes, the silence once again falling over us. As the sound of metal forks and knives scratching plates entered my ears, my mind went wandering.
Okay, our first date was a complete bust with me decidedly getting drunk and him just asking me out to satisfy Heart's meddling. The second one was sweet and got me admitting that I had actual feelings for him.
And this one was our third. We've finished the 'weaving through each other and testing waters' stage, so what was next?
I wasn't one of those people who wanted no titles nor was I the kind who sought out one in an instant. I just wanted to be in the know of the pacing – if he wanted to go slow then I would be a sloth and if he wanted to go fast then I was going to go on a speed that would make Lightning McQueen proud.
Kachow, you idiots.
But then again, why was I thinking like this if I had this inkling feeling that whatever we were going to have, it would just be for a small while.
When the door unexpectedly swung open, I stopped eating and my eyes widened to see Axel and Heart walking back in. We stared at them like a deer caught in the headlight.
They obviously knew they ruined something and by the triumphant grin on Axel's face, I wanted nothing more for the ground to swallow me up whole, "Now it's my turn to cockblock you!"
Heart rolled her eyes as she shrugged her coat off after closing the door behind her, "Some fans saw us and we thought we'll be let off after a few pictures, but they posted it online and suddenly the restaurant had this long cue. Not because people wanted to eat there, but apparently, they thought we were oh-so-willing to do an impromptu meet and greet."
"Bad luck for you two, but we're going to have our date here as well," Axel said as he went up to the ceramic dish of lasagna after grabbing two plates from the cupboard, "Hey Valentine, do we still have sparkling water in the fridge."
"I'm in a mood for champagne," Heart responded, "Let's pop a bottle open."
And I can only gape as these two set up their own dinner on the coffee table. Axel unapologetically stole the lighted scented candle and Heart got a couple of glasses then poured themselves a drink.
Apparently, having Adam in my life also meant that these two will come with him.
I whipped my head to shoot him an incredulous look but the complete relaxed expression he was sporting finally made me laugh.

Okay, three updates in one week is something I haven't done inba really long time. Hope you guys enjoyed!
{Old A/N: If you have read this already on Radish, you wouldl know that this chapter was titled differently and even went on a different way. The reason for the change was because I thought they went too fast so instead of going with the original route, I went with this.
So sorry that I wasn't able to update last Saturday. It was my first week back in uni and it was as hectic as you could picture. It's difficult to even think of reading through an update when I was still nursing a hangover along with some annoying ass people who couldn't take no for an answer.}
Question: Do you like it that Axel and Heart are here?
Thank you guys for reading. Don't forget to vote, comment, and follow. You know I love you guys and I shall see you all next chapter.
