National Writing Month (NaWriMo)(November) and Camp NaNo (April and July)

Author's Note: This is a combination of several posts on how I've been using National Writing Month's Website and Camp NaNo to motivate me to finish and start projects. It's a great tool to get the ball rolling, with fun interactive support. If you didn't know about this way to drive your writing, the section below will tell you all about it.

April 2015

I've been working on it for over a year. Now, it's time to finish it. I've been telling all my fans and readers about the time travel romance that I've been working on. Well, it's nearing completion. How? I've been working on it as my project for National Writing Month and Camp NaNo.

If you're a writer, you may know what this is. If you don't, here is the details. National Writing Month is an event that happens in November. It's a non-profit website that motivates writers to create a novel in a month, or basically write 50K. I participated last November and finished Never Cross A Warlock.

Camp NaNo is a little different than the Big NaNo event in November. You can set your word count instead of the 50K. I've decided to set a reasonable word count that should finish my novel: 10,000 words. Plus, you are assigned to a cabin. It's like an on-line writing group to share your ups and downs during the month. It's so fabulous being able to share the process with writers in a similar genre.

So, I've got my next project up to finally finish, Everything For Love. I've been revealing info about this project slowly as I progress through it's completion.

Want to see the progress? Even check out Camp NaNo for yourself? Feel free to leave comments below. If you're participating in Camp NaNo this year, send me a message. I love making friends. And if you are participating, best wishes in making that word count. If you want to find out more, go to Camp NaNo and check it out. It's a great way to motivate. You still have half the month. So, there is still time to join in now. And most of all, keep writing!

Afterward: Just to note, I did make my goal. However, I'm not done with the novel. So, I'm going to push on and try Camp NaNo in July. You're welcome to join and even gear up for the great novel write in November. It really takes over Twitter in daily posts in November. If you've put off starting, NaNo is a great way to motivate.

UPDATE 2023:

I like to look back at this entry when the enthusiasm was so high during NaNo for me. I did take this finished manuscript and turn it into the book, "Everything For Love: Book one of the Time Rogues Series". It was really super inspirational and helped bring my speed for getting work done faster. I went from writing at about 500-600 for a session to around 1200 words when I sit down to work. It helped me plan out a novel, get into a writing routine, and complete a manuscript. These are all important things in getting your book done and a manuscript into production.

So, I highly recommend doing NaNo if you haven't tried it. I have since not participated as much as I did in the mid 2010s. I feel I got a lot out of it, and sometimes would do Camp Nano in the summer time. But due to COVID, I've changed my writing routine and have found Nano has gone by the wayside for now. But I learned a lot from the experience, and I really enjoyed participating when I did. It's a great tool to support your writing if you'd like a way to help you finish a manuscript. You could do the writing on Wattpad and have a manuscript done that you could edit during the early part of the year to get ready for the Watties.

So, get writing and maybe you'll find NaNo can work for you as a supportive tool for your author journey.
