The first song describes your protagonist.
The second song describes the overall vibe of the story.
The third song describes the story's general plot.
For example:
My first song was Legend Lake by Maggie Snyder, so I'd probably write about a girl who's reminiscing about the summers she spent at the lake with her family. She misses the simpler times of her childhood, but she holds the memories close and thinks back to those days when she's sad.
My second song was Girl Crush by Little Big Town. I'd try and give it a sort of country vibe, with hints of sadness. The sort of feeling you get when you're looking back at your life and thinking, "What would have happened if I'd done things differently?" Girl Crush is more about a girl wishing she was like another girl so the person she's in love with would love her back. I guess it's more of an unrequited love kinda thing, but I'll choose to think of it that the speaker had a shot with this person, but took too long and now she wishes she'd been brave enough to take the chance. So sad, but accepting of whatever's making her sad. She wishes things were different, but accepts that this is her life and there's not much she can do about it. (Remember that music is up to interpretation, so you can tweak things a bit to make a more cohesive story if needed!)
This last song kinda messes with the entire aesthetic of my story. With just the first two, it'd probably be something about a girl who was in too big a hurry to grow up and is completely overwhelmed with her new life in a big city. She would be thinking back to her childhood, maybe a boy whose family rented out the cabin next to her's during the summer. But uh... my third song was Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) by AURORA. So I guess I'd end up writing about the girl taking a few last minutes to look back on her life, wondering how she got to this point, maybe thinking about her family. Just one last moment to reminisce before she gets killed.
So yeah, have fun with that, if you wanna. I think that if I ever end up writing these stories in the future, they'll eventually be put here and I'll probably stick it in a separate chapter and just move it so that it's after this one. Like I said in the description, if you use these prompts I'd love it if you'd tag me and then put a link to your story in the comments so anyone else who'd like to read them can find your stories! Maybe this could be a fun way for smaller authors to find each other!
(Oh, and if you for some reason go to my page to read some more of my work, please remember that I haven't written anything properly in nearly a year and I really need to go back and do some editing on my stuff from when I was twelve.)
