Mystery

Alistar had seen something sparkly within the study he knew he was never supposed to enter. He had attempted to enter the room on multiple occasions but each attempt always ended with him in his room or in a corner. Alistar walked into the room slowly, his father had slipped out and he found that the mirror he was looking into seemed to not be his reflection but rather a warped bubble like other world. He squinted watching people walking around doing daily tasks. He didn't know what he was looking at.

He set his finger on the golden frame, he realized there was a light etching within the gold. He leaned in close checking to see what the words relayed. As he began to read the ancient lettering he heard his fathers booming footsteps. He quickly dived under the desk smacking his knee on the ground, he chocked down a pained grunt and pulled himself into a ball as his father sat in his chair and his feet extended under the table nearly hitting him.

He covered his mouth with his hand to ensure he didn't breath too loudly, his watched his fathers leg cross. That was when he heard another set of footsteps.

"Your son, he is-" there was a long pause "still like his mother?"

"I am not sure. Do you have what I asked for? The alliance between my kingdom and the one o-"

"It's not that easy sire, they want to meet with you, with your son. Their daughter is looking for a futur-"

"He is not ready for that yet, he will mess it up. Mess the entire thing up." He frowned, crossing his arms in anger. Alistar squinted his eyes, what would he mess up? What would he not help his father with, out of the corner of his eye he continued to look at the mirror. He couldn't see the glass however so he was unable to see the city he had once seen. His fathers legs crossed again, he was angry he wanted to have the truce he was looking for without his son being a part of it.

He had concerns about Alistar, he was almost too clumsy, he wasn't what he had expected in a son. The idea that his child could come out like he had amazed him. His mother was grace and beauty, and he was strength. But Alistar, Alistar was handsome in a boyish way. He was clumsier than anyone he had ever met. He still didn't understand how he had come from them. The two men argued for a few minutes before he ordered him away nearly kicking Alistar again and leaving the room.

Soon Alistar felt it was safe to get up again and so he did, he moved back to the mirror only to find his reflection. He ran his hands along the side only to see the engraving was gone. He knitted his eyebrows together in alarm. He was surprised that it was now smooth.

The people were no longer there, and he could only find himself.

He felt the person in the mirror was just as big a mystery as the mirror itself.
