Healthy Writing Habits

Dean would automatically cringe at the word "healthy". So maybe this isn't the best thing for him to read. Sam would probably be all over this.

Dean-o, this doesn't pertain to food, so, you're good, my friend. Read away.

So, yet another general lesson on a set of guidelines, but they can still apply to us too.

Find your work method. Is it writing every day? When you can? Are you a planner instead of winging it? Are you thorough (meaning you have gifs and music ready for chapters)?

My plan: Character outlines, plot outlines, then things get filled in as I go. It gives me structure so I'm not building up from random things and pulling them together in hopes of it all working out in my favor.

Stick to the plan. If the method works, stick with it. If it doesn't, try to find another that might suit you better.

When in doubt, take a break. Writer's block hit ya hard? Can't think? Stuck? Time for a breather. Remove yourself from the story. If you've got other ideas, bounce to them if you're that person who can't stand writer's block on every story they've ever written. (That's my alternative to fuming over being stuck.)

Writing isn't a job, it's a hobby. This is important to remember. You write because you love to. Don't turn it into a must-do, because then it takes the fun out of it. Don't think about writing for an audience, write for you. That is the key component: write for you.

Lacking inspiration? Go hunt for some. Take a break and revisit your favorite season. Listen to music while you write.

Interact with your audience. Get involved! You'll meet some awesome people along the way! (Okay, maybe not a writing habit, just a thing to do, you know?)

Make sure the flow works. If something doesn't feel right, rework it. Just don't go overboard and scrap 50 different versions before you find your golden goose on the 51st. At that point you're thinking too hard about it. (The key is to not stress yourself out when you don't need to.)

Keep track of your plot. Don't let it run away from you. Rein it in if you catch it early. Sometimes authors don't and then it gets too wild for them to tame.

Advice for here: make a plot outline and highlight the main points. You'll thank yourself later for it.

Thinker: Where does your inspiration come from when it comes to a Supernatural fanfic idea? Is it because you wanna be apart of the fandom even more? Or is it something else?

My inspiration: Watching the show itself. Thinking 'wouldn't it be cool if I had an OC with them and go through this too?'. (It also proves how obsessed and far gone I am in the fandom, but shh, don't tell anyone.)
