Chapter Thirty-Eight: Knowledge and Tears, Ignorance and Foolishness
-No Where in Particular, Somewhere-
~Glacia~
I propped myself up against a stone wall, running out of breath. My lungs burned with the fire of exhaustion as I struggled to regain my regular heart rate. The rough stone surface prodded at the bruises and sores in my back, making an aching pain shoot through my spine. I grimaced and bit my lip as my limbs felt like they would crack and break as they burned on. Nothing could help me now.
I looked at my companion, the only one that knew the truth, through the dim moonlight shining from the cave entrance. I looked at Aquilo, who's faint silhouette was sitting on the floor. He clutched his side, tired from the desperate escape. I could tell he was damaged from all the running and climbing we did in our desire to not die.
As soon as the snakes helped us sneak past poor Briar, we killed them. Something had hurt deep inside my chest when I had to use her. All of Stella's children were just naive little . . . Children, lied to by their mother.
The snakes Stella gave us weren't to be trusted. As they were created by Stella, there was no doubt they were made to track us down. In fact, all our actions within the snakes' sight were probably relayed to the "leader", the phoenix. But no matter how powerful each of their hearts were, they had no knowledge, thus they are blind.
"Aquilo," I started between breaths to get his attention. Each word caught in my throat and raked it. Did you catch anything of what Stelliana said about us? I thought.
"Someone used dark magic to replace her children," Aquilo softly spoke, then laughed. "With creatures."
I smiled slightly as I could see the irony in that sentence. Stelliana called us creatures, when in fact she was the one even less than a creature.
My head ached and my stomach felt nauseous as I sank down to sit on the cold stone floor. It was then that I realized how tired I was. We had been going at the highest speed we could to get away, only suriving on bare grains and never sleeping. My brain had already half shut down, and was demanding sleep.
"Aquilo." I whispered. No response. "Big bro." Still only silence greeted me. My pace still quickened, as much as it seemed impossible.
I looked over and found that he was already asleep and I smiled through the pain stabbing at every part of my body. Guess I could sleep too.
The night only possesses nightmares for the child of the truth, and the night gives dreams to those who have not seen the evil of the world.
I soon found that even though I was tired, I couldn't sleep. The cold stone and jutting rocks made me constantly sneeze and wince from pain. I only lay awake, not daring to make a sound for in case anybody discovered us.
So I again played out the true events of what happened in my life.
I was a regular human girl, living in a happy family with my brother, mother, and father. I can still barely touch those memories, those bright days of comfort and warmth. My mother had beautiful blonde hair and the most extraordinary smile, while my father was the one with the one with the light blonde hair and blue eyes that we inherited. I remember the taste of something sweet called cake, and the feel of something soft called carpet.
But then it all changed. Our mother suddenly disappeared. No explanation, just disappeared out of thin air.
My father blamed it on himself. He became less and less happy, and soon spent most of his days in the hospital. Every month, grandma and grandpa would send some money for Aquilo and I to buy groceries and other things. We eventually became so poor and broke we couldn't afford electricity or running water.
Then, one day, a man in a formal-looking black suit came to our house. He simply told us that our father somehow managed to jump out of the hospital window and committed suicide. From then, I didn't understand a word he said.
Aquilo, never the strong one, had ran out of the room crying. The man in the suit saw that and decided to leave. "I'll come back later." I don't know if he ever did.
Because right after, Galvano came to get us. He's really not the dark king, but in reality the minister of justice for this world.
Stelliana is just a spirit, feeding on the bad emotions of people, such as envy, sadness, and greed. She wishes to be powerful to escape her cruel fate as a lesser spirit trying to be killed by everybody. She then went into a very long hibernation to gain energy was still too little, so she used it to take my mom to the world of seven moons and stole her physical body.
My mother, as a spirit, wandered to Galvano and begged him to take care of her children. As Galvano finally agreed to her request, my mother faded away to live in the stars.
At the time Galvano traveled to the human realm, Stelliana gained an enormous amount of power in physical form, to even more than the gods. Using this energy, she rewrote the memories of everybody to the way she wanted it. As long as the victim felt an evil emotion, they would be affected. Also, the effect was hereditary. She was going to be known as a great hero, and the man whom she loved, who previously didn't know she existed, would love her.
As Aquilo and I found ourselves in this weird world, Galvano realized that he would soon succumb to the spell. He then quickly transferred his powers to us, the power of truth and thoughts, and sent us back in time. This left us to discover the way out on our own, and somehow we ended up in this situation.
As the sounds outside the cave gradually calmed, my mind eased itself to sleep.
Two will go to the place where it all began,
And 5 shall meet them on the cliff where it ends,
All 7 shall pass as strangers to their home,
And break down the wall that was created by their own.
The final battle had already started, and the prophecy was going to come true. "Break down the wall that was created by their own" is a mental wall. The wall of the great curse cast by Stelliana, the wall blocking the truth from shining out. We would all somehow break this curse, though for how high a price, I don't know.
