#2: A Newleaf in ThunderClan

Okay, some of the cats (leader, warriors, kits, apprentices, deputies, etc.) might be inaccurate to the time. I'm not super sure about who was what way back when, so right now Redtail is deputy, Bluestar is leader, and... yeah.  I think Spottedleaf is the medicine cat? Anyways-

Mousefur yawned. She was relaxing with Longtail in one of the warm meadows of StarClan's territory, enjoying the sunshine soaking into her pelt. Feeling her eyelids lowering, she gladly gave way to sleep, curled beside her friend.

Mousefur awoke in her nest, before stretching and standing up, ready for her next day as a ThunderClan warrior. She had finally completed her apprenticeship only a few moons ago, and she was rather excited for the Gathering tonight. What could she say? She loved Gatherings.

It was newleaf in the Clans, and today, the sun was shining and the scent of fresh blossoms and leaves filled the early-morning air.

Mousefur trotted out of her den, squinting as the light hit her eyes. Redtail caught her eye, beckoning her over with a flick of his tail. Padding over to the group of cats near her, Mousefur began to pick up what Redtail was saying.

"- and Runningwind, you're on a border patrol. Lionheart, take Mousefur and Longtail hunting. Now, everyone off!"

"All right, Mousefur, Longtail, let's get going. We'll be going over to Sunningrocks today. Let's get going!" Lionheart mewed, walking briskly out of camp and leaving the younger cats to follow him.

Longtail trotted beside her, and whispered in her ear, "He's a bit strict, isn't he?"

Mousefur gave a mew of agreement. "So upright and stiff sometimes."

Longtail purred in laughter, and Lionheart turned back to glare at them as they padded out of the gorse tunnel together. "I have ears, you know," the large golden tom rumbled. Longtail and Mousefur looked at him, wide-eyed.

"Now, come along. The prey isn't waiting for us, you know!" With that, Lionheart turned and continued on, and Mousefur and Longtail were once again left to scamper after the huge tom.

Once they reached Sunningrocks, Lionheart gave them instructions. "You two stay near here and look for prey. I'll be going closer to the river to hunt there. Understand? No fooling around, either."

Mousefur nodded her assent, and Longtail mewed in understanding. Lionheart dropped into a crouch and stalked away, towards the edge of Sunningrocks and closer to the shore, like he had said. Mousefur and Longtail shared a glance, before simultaneously dropping into their hunting crouches and stepping carefully onto the warm rocks.

Mousefur scanned the dull rocks with her sharp eyes, looking for any sign of prey. Finally, after waiting a while, she saw a flicker of movement in the bushes just beyond Sunningrocks. Mousefur began stalking towards the area, twitching an ear at Longtail to let him know. Seeing her signal, Longtail began stalking towards the bushes, but in a loop around to come at it from a different direction.

When Mousefur got close to the clump of bushes, she stopped in her tracks when the stench finally reached her. Fox. She stood up to yowl a warning to Longtail, but before she could, a snarling red blur flew at her, and suddenly she was pinned, and all she could see was the fox's sharp teeth above her, thick strands of drool sliding down towards her face.

She heard Longtail's yowl, and felt some of the crushing weight lifted off her, and the sharp, yellowed teeth disappeared from her view.

Scrambling to her paws, Mousefur saw Longtail grappling the fox, clinging to its back as he raked his claws across its spine. Golden fur flashed in the corner of her eyes as Lionheart bounded across the rocks and joined in the attack.

After a heartbeat's hesitation, Mousefur leaped at the fox, clawing and biting at its legs. The fight lasted only a few minutes, but in that time Mousefur gained a stinging wound on one of her hind legs, plus a minor yet painful scratch on her belly.

Finally, the fox yowled in defeat and scampered off, running away with wounds dripping blood. After he was sure that the fox was gone, Lionheart turned to the two younger warriors, who were both panting after the exercise of the fight. "All right, you two. Let's get back to camp. I'll warn Bluestar and Redtail and ask for a patrol to be sent out after it, and you two will go straight to the medicine den. Got it?"

Mousefur and Longtail mewed their agreement, and the trio set off back towards the camp.

Awhile later, when Spottedleaf had finished fussing over them and finally saying that they could go rest, Mousefur and Longtail curled up near each other at the edge of camp, in a warm patch of newleaf sun.

That was the moment Mousefur had fallen in love with Longtail. When he had saved her life. When, like in StarClan, outside of the memory, they had curled up in the newleaf sun, amongst elegant blossoms and fresh grass. Newleaf held many good memories for every warrior, and this was one of Mousefur's favorites. Her and Longtail, two ThunderClan warriors.

Forever.

And there we go! This was longer than I expected, so... yeah. I was up till 1:00 a.m. writing this, so I hope it's good. This is for x-_Snowy_-x 's writing contest.
