Tell about a character who lost something important to him/her...

Lory was a lonely child having been orphaned at an early age. The kids at the orphanage didn't talk to her much as she was what they called 'odd'. That didn't bother her too much though, she liked her alone time and she'd rather not be disturbed. She was struck out of her reclusion and into a giddy happiness on her thirteenth birthday when she received a package from the head of the orphanage. Inside this package was a box of valuables and a short letter.

Dear Lory,

I know you are probably wondering why I had to gibe you up and you may be mad at me for it and I'm sorry. I was too young to be having children and I had no way of providing for you. I know that it is now excuse to leave you as I did but I hope you will forgive me. By the time you receive this letter I am hopefully more able to take care of you. If you ever want to get to know your mother and maybe leave the orphanage if you are still there then write me at letter and I will come as soon as I can.

The letter made her heart soar. She received a few other nicknacks but the letter was by far the most important to her. It meant that she could get out of here. "Lory, get down here, you have chores to do. NOW!!!" She placed the letter in her back pocket and skipped down the stairs to do her chores.

Four arduous hours later Lory dragged her feet back up the stairs to write her letter. She sat down at the small desk and within a few moments she had written up a short missive about her desire to reconnect. She reached into her back pocket to retrieve the address but come back empty handed. In a wild panic she flew down the stairs and checcked and re-checked every room she had been in with no luck. She even went as far as asking the head of the orphanage if she knew the address but came back with a less than pleasant response. The joy she had felt earlier vanished and in its' place depression bloomed and the box of trinkets that were so precious to her lay abandoned in the farthest corner of her closet.
