Summary Main Characters Relationships

Character: Dana

Billy  

Billy is her brother. He's younger and goofs off a lot, he uses his ability to scare random people cause he thinks its funny, he also likes to read and enjoys learning things with the little traditional education he got. 

They share a close bond but it still has some cracks, (I think I explained it in a decent amount of detail when I covered Dana's character). Like when they walk around sometimes they pass groups of boys Billy's age and Dana can see the yearning in his gaze for a group of friends like that. Dana's just trying to do what she can to keep them both safe, and Billy can see that, but it still leads to petty fights every now and again.

Dana feels like she needs to be the responsible one and take charge, Billy seeks to have more independence, wants friends his own age and really just be normal. A big portion of the story is focused on them splitting apart and growing independent of one another, something both needed (Not to this extreme obviously)

Silverfish 'Silver'

Silver is the demon who Dana ends up in debt to. 

When they meet Dana and Billy were still together and confused. She took advantage to get ahead and challenged Billy. Dana took his place and lost. Shortly after Billy is taken away as well, challenged by a higher ranking demon and the siblings are separated. Dana stays with Silver. In the beginning she hates her, she doesn't really understand whats happening and she attempts to run away and find Billy so they can go home, which doesn't work cause it goes against the terms set for the challenge. Silver keeps her around as a personal servant of sorts in the beginning but it gradually turns into a friendship and even a little more with unrequited feelings, but because of the power dynamics there's always a sense of distance and distrust. 

Silver is from the outer rings and used to live under a bridge, she had everything taken from her because of the challenges and is on a crusade to re-challenge them all and win it all back (Starting with her old teddy bear). To do this she goes on a journey from the outer rings and works her way to the centre, bringing Dana along. Dana studies Silver, trying to figure out how she can beat her when her window of opportunity opens up. 

So there's a bit of this 'I'm your friend but the second I get the chance I will stab your back to get what I want' coming from both ends. For Silver its to win back her freedom and for Dana its to find Billy and get home. 

The more friendly, and unrequited romance aspect of their relationship comes from neither really having someone else to take care of them/lean on. Dana could never do that to Billy without feeling guilty and Silver just never had a figure like that in her life, she was taken advantage of at every turn. 

The Tall Man 

The Tall Man is the demon who beat Dana the first time in the human world and the reason they ended up in Hell City in the first place since the siblings followed him there. Dana doesn't cross paths with him again until later on in the story, but she does have an arc leading to a rematch between the pair. 

The Tall Man is a high ranking demon and a hitman for those above him, he was in the human world looking for his target, but they weren't there so he returned to Hell City. Throughout the story he is still looking for them and this is situation ends up reuniting him and Dana for a rematch.

She sees him as scary, intimidating, threatening and the personification of everything she did wrong. She thinks by defeating him that will fix her mistake from the beginning. He sees her as some silly kid, a pest really. 

The Man With Scissors

The Man With Scissors is a high ranking demon under orders to capture Billy and Dana for a higher up demon called 'Moon'. He is cruel and tortured people for information on the siblings using scissors. Throughout the story he is an intimidating presence but also layered. This aspect is introduced more through Billy's section cause he spends his time in Hell City closer to the centre so he interacts with demons close to the Man with Scissors.

When it comes to Dana the relationship between the two isn't particularly deep, she doesn't realize she's being tracked until its too late.
