Summary of Main Character

Dana is an 18 year old runaway who lives with her 13 year old brother Billy on the streets. Before life on the streets they grew up in a lower middle class home. Ever since the tragedy that put them in this position Dana took on a pseudo parental role for her brother for the sake of protecting him and keeping them both safe. 

She finds it difficult to accept help, something that drives a tension between the pair as Billy grows and wants to help out more.

She provides for both of them by mugging people using their ability to shape shift into a swarm of bugs, despite this being something both of them can do Dana always takes charge and keeps Billy out of it as backup. 

Despite the powers being overall useful they are difficult to control, at least for Dana. For her its like trying to drive a car on a bumpy road along a narrow cliff edge with a stiff steering wheel and hail. It gets harder to control the longer she's in that form, so she's never stayed in it for longer then a few minutes. 

Her unease around her powers only grows after her fight with the Tall Man who manages to beat her. She's stuck as the swarm for about an hour and when she comes back she has several red lines indented around various body parts, implying that if she'd stayed any longer she wouldn't have come back in one piece. 

Looks-wise Dana shares many features with her brother, both are more on the scrappy side, shorter, with naturally mousey brown hair and dark attentive eyes. Dana did more to separate herself from her natural looks, usually through her hair which she constantly changes, cutting and re dying it. She also has a scar on her ear from a failed attempt at piercing her own ear when she was younger.

Personality-wise Dana is caring for Billy but rough around the edges. She feels a deep responsibility for everything happening around them and puts a lot of pressure on herself to keep them both alive and well. She's very stubborn when it comes to getting her way on serious matters, but otherwise balances between being the responsible one and a sibling. When they aren't trying to get by they often explore the city and goof off together, though she also has a fear that this isn't enough for Billy, she can tell he wants friends his own age, and she doesn't know how to help.

She also isn't a particularly social person, even before everything changed she usually kept her head down and didn't really have friends she had to leave. She did get in fights with people however, during a period of time when Billy was being picked on, one of these instances was the first time she ever used her abilities.
