Day 10 - Writing Fuel
For me, writing depends heavily on my mood. There are days I can't get myself to put even one decent sentence on a piece of paper while on other days, I write up a storm. The same is with my stories - there are some days I feel inspired to write a particular chapter. This can change at the spur of the moment. Since my stories are rarely planned, the plot is probably also heavily influenced by that. The spider scene is Trapped was written when I was steaming in my hotel room in Berlin, ready to kill the auditor who was torturing me that day. Imagining the little things crawling over him was my payback, LOL.
I used to start stories and abandon them (usually about half way through) when a new idea was just screaming in my head, ready to be explored. First chapters have always been my favorite and I have dozens of them in my "ideas" folder, waiting to be explored when the right mood comes along.
When I look at some of these stories today, many of them make me cringe because I find them so bad. Those are the moments where I even realize how much my style has developed over time which gives me a glimmer of hope that one day, I will actually get it right.
So as you can tell, I don't really need any fuel to come up with ideas since those just happen to zoom around in my head, just itching to spill onto a piece of paper. However, what I need fuel for is to actually complete stories. So what has changed that I have completed more stories in the past fifteen months than ever before? Simple. My fuel has been my readers on Wattpad.
It's all thanks to you that I can pull myself out of a slump. Before Wattpad, it really never mattered if I finished or not - no one was reading my stories anyways. Now, all your reads/votes and especially your comments make all the difference. In a sense, you give a voice to my characters and they come alive on the page because I know that they are not some meaningless creatures. They matter to you. They make you laugh, cry, and curse and when I am down and low, ready to quit, I just have to remind myself that you deserve to finish the journey with them. So with a sigh, I open my laptop and write, and all of a sudden, a story is finished and turns into a book.
So for all of you out there who have been supporting me - a big thank you. You are my fuel to keep me going :)
