basketballdemon - The Keeper of the Great Library
Chapter 3 is out!
The author of Chapter 3 is Rita (a.k.a basketballdemon). Let's meet the author!
Dear Rita
We are glad to have you on board for this SciFi Relay adventure.
And we want to thank you for spending this moment with us for this interview.
Tell us a bit about yourself, your journey as a writer and your foray into the Orange part of the web (a.k.a. Wattpad)
I've always been a writer. Been writing since I was a kid. I stumbled upon Wattpad one day a couple of years back online and ever since I have been a Wattpad writer. At the beginning, I was a shy writer but now I'd like to believe I've grown as I put myself out there for more challenges.
1, 2, 3... Tell us about ONE story you would have wanted to write, TWO authors you admire, who inspire you.... THREE characters who often come into your mind when you start a new story...
This is actually a story I'm still planning but I've always wanted to write something about two twin protagonists... One the hero and the other an antihero turning villain. The story would have to be about these two coming at odds with one another.
As for authors I've always admired Sidney Sheldon definitely is number one, and I'm not sure if he counts as author ( mangaka probably) but lately I've come to appreciate Isayama's storytelling. Attack on Titan was just a masterpiece and I hope to someday be able to create something as thrilling and jaw dropping at every turn as he did.
Three Characters who come into mind when I'm writing, depends on the genre of the story but I always think Jean Grey, John Wick and Jack Sparrow surprisingly.
What made you want to participate in the relay?
I joined last year and I had fun. Seemed only natural to return to the team.
How did you find the experience?
It was a teaching experience, especially since this side of sci Fi has never really been my forte.
What challenged you the most in this venture? Something that maybe brought you out of your writer's comfort zone?
Creating an alien species. Hardest thing there is 🤣 especially figuring out how you want them to look and act. It's a whole lot different to creating different human characters.
Something we are most curious about... How about you give us a little teaser of your part in this story? A sentence or two that will keep us on our toes and impatiently wait reading your chapter?
The perks of being a librarian is the access to limitless knowledge.
And while we are feeling the tease, as we consider the Science Fiction genre, we are all expecting wondrous worlds and weird alien species... Can you tell us about one element you brought to the Relay, one element you created for this story? It may be an alien race, a location in space, or maybe a special technology... Tell us about this special character, object, environment or settings you built up for your part in the story. What was your inspiration for it?
The librarian is my baby together with his Alien race, the Shozien. His name is something I thought of years ago for a character I ended up not writing about. I made him bluish because the inspiration was supposed to be a mermen, lol, so I thought maybe I'll keep aspects of the original concept. The Shozien really have no inspiration, I just wanted a way to justify him being somewhat - telepathic. 🤣. Okay, maybe I drew a little bit of inspiration from the Avatar movies about the whole hive mind of theirs.
And just to make it even more understandable. This little part of yourself you added to make the story even greater, can you give us a definition as if it was an entry in The Great Dictionary of Science Fiction?
Shozien - Tall humanoids, with grey -blue skin, either blue/ grey hair and have somewhat elfish features.
