Problem 10: When Clichés Are Too Cliché

In this day and age where everything is the future and anything new is old news in 10 minutes, it's hard to avoid the clichés.

And oh do we try hard to avoid it like it had Covid-19.

I remember the many times I try hard to not include even one cliches into my stories. Always a losing battle.

But as I write and write and write like crazy, I realised it's not the cliché that we should avoid. It's when we overused the cliché too much to the point it became just another book with the same idea as the last one.

There's a time when too much is too much.

Clichés are clichés because they are predictable: we can already guess what will happen. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Even though it's cliché, everyone still wants a happy ending. Everyone wants to see the hero win. And that's okay. What's not okay is when you use every clichés that ever existed and put it in every line of your chapter.

Clichés are like spices; too much and it might ruin the food but too little and it might not taste anything at all.

So to everyone who writes and is reading this: it's okay to be cliché but too much and I might as well throw a bland soup at you to even it out.

Good luck! Hoseki13 signing out.
