As a writer on Wattpad, it is no denying that all of us - at some point or other - have faced a nasty writer’s block. Where you have zero motivation and have loads of time, or have loads of motivation and zero time to work on them. Whatever be the case, today I’m here to share my secrets of how I have often overcome Writer’s Block. Everyone has their different methods however, and what’s mine might not work for you, be sure to let me know in the comments if you have any tips or tricks for me!

#1, Read, even if you don’t have any motivation to write

You’re probably thinking, bruh- what does reading have to do with the motivation to write, however, from personal experience I can tell you that it’s all interconnected! Even if you lack the motivation to write, check out guides for writing. Tumblr prompt ideas, even if you won’t develop them and keep reading, you never know when an idea can strike and you can get inspired again.

#2, Join a book club

Book clubs on Wattpad are especially good for getting better at writing and interacting with other people. This is one trick that has personally helped me a lot - and when I say that, I mean a lot - of times to overcome writer’s block. Why? It is because when you’re in these book clubs, you read other people’s work and let them read yours. It makes you realize that everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect and you’re all growing together. This trick? It legit works.

#3, Find your Inspiration

Whether it’s going to a museum or re-reading an old book or finishing a web series, do things that have inspired you before when you’ve been stumped in such a state. If you don’t know what to do to overcome the block, try asking others who write how they have overcome it. And try to find your own inspiration, in whatever task you do, keep your mind open. Inspiration can sometimes come in the oddest of tasks, remember that.

#4, Playlist, playlist, playlist!

I know that we’ve heard this one a million times but having different playlists according to your mood and each one different for a particular character and a particular story, help you to slide into the minds and bodies of your characters and write more efficiently. Listen to these playlists on repeat but at the same time discover new and fresh tracks. Something will inspire you, I promise.

#5, Keep a track

Every time you have a new idea or even a bit of motivation to work on your story. Record that as a voice note, write on sticky notes - even if you’re on work - moments like these are precious and you need to write them down. Just in case they don’t come back later, you don’t want to lose them.

#6, Treat yourself

Every time you finish working on something, treat yourself. Watch a good movie, order takeout, have a bar of chocolate, or whatever feels rewarding to you. You finished another thing you had pending and that calls for a celebration and it’s not just good for you, rewarding yourself also tends to motivate your brain because it gets used to having treats when it has finished something. It is motivation for your brain to do better.

#7, And finally, question yourself

Re-evaluate and ask yourself why you had begun writing in the first place. It could be a different reason for everyone and that’s alright. Ask yourself if that reason is still worth it for you and if you still want to keep striving for that aim.

And so, with that, I’ll conclude today’s topic. I hope that we’ve all learned something and anytime you need someone to talk about your writer’s block, feel free to hit me up! Hope this helps some with their block and if it does, do let me know in the comments!

Until next time <3
