Chapter Three
You know that moment in a movie when somebody enters a place that is magical to them, or when they revisit a place in the past that was of significant value to them, and everything just looks surreal? Well, in this very moment, the sun glistened through the opened window, reflecting on my skin producing a calming warmth that gave me the same infamous feeling throughout my entire body. Everything was still, and silent. Oddly, the silence was comforting to me. The apartment looks exactly how I remember it, although now that I am in it, I see it differently. I can see the almost invisible particles of dust, floating through the sunlight gracefully, I can smell the cinnamon spice aroma in the air, and even hear the occasional creaking of the wooden floor beneath my feet. My amazement leads me to the bookshelf beside the bay window. My fingers rake over the spines of each book, as I read a few titles in my mind.
"I can't imagine what this must be like for you."
"Yeah, it's not everyday you walk into your favorite TV show. Crazy but, in a really cool way," I chuckle softly as I step over the ledge in the kitchen.
The refrigerator has a picture of Riley and Maya from their younger days, smiling side by side, just hanging by a magnet. I giggle at the picture of Auggie as a baby, making a silly face. I smile feeling an overwhelming wave of happiness from this area alone.
I hear heels clicking behind me before her presence graces me.
"We were like 13 there," Maya points to the picture of she and Riley.
"You guys are the cutest," I giggle before turning around to face Maya who is leaning against the kitchen table.
"We were. She still is, I, however, I'm not cute", she gives her signature Maya Hart smirk.
"I beg to differ," I smile as I walk back over to Maya who is leaning against the wooden door frame aimlessly.
"What time is it", I ask.
"Uhh 10:01 AM", she replies, checking the time using the cell phone Corey Matthews gave to her in season 1. I remember...
I smile to myself at the thought before calculating the hours we have left until 12 AM.
"We have like 13 hours to roughly figure this out," I sigh.
"Where do we start?"
"Why don't we pay a visit to Topanga's?"
"Nothing is gonna help us there."
"Who knows, I might be able to see something you can't?"
She pokes her bottom lip out slightly as she narrows her eyes at me, thinking for a moment before speaking.
"Fine, but let's be quick okay", she says as she walks out the door.
"Duh", I mumble as I follow behind her...
~~~~~~
"What the ****?!?! Why can't I say ****?? ****!"
"What," Maya's eyebrows knit together as she tries to figure out what I am saying.
"Not only that, how the heck did we get here?!"
"What do you mean? You said you wanted to come to Topangas!"
"We literally left Riley's apartment and ended up here!"
"Does that not happen in your world?"
"No, it doesn't- wait a minute... I know for darn sure Riley isn't supposed to be hugging a scroll. Did I just say darn??"
Maya simply rolls her eyes at me and goes to retrieve the paper from Riley's grasp.
As I walk up behind her, Maya scrambles to open the scroll, reading its cryptic content.
"Episode one is where it began, 2nd scene begins again..."
Blue eyes shoots to me waiting for me to speak eagerly.
"What?"
"You know the show! What do we do now?"
I roll my eyes with a smirk as I grab her hand, leading her to the door.
"Second scene of episode 1 takes place in the subway. Pfft, fake fan," I smirk.
"Technically I'm not a fan of my life at all so..."
I can't help but chuckle at her morbid but relatable words...
~~~~
"I am really never getting used to that", I say as we walk into the subway.
"How else would we travel", she giggles.
"I dunno, drive? Walk? Ride a bike?"
"What is a bike?"
I abruptly stop walking and look at the blonde in disbelief.
"I'm kidding! You should have seen your face," she laughs heartily.
I roll my eyes playfully as I take in the setting. Oddly it looks different from the last season. What if we are actually traveling through the show's timeline?
As if to confirm my theory, A man is sitting against the stone wall, a bucket in front of him, as he hold two wooden drumsticks, not moving a muscle.
"I know this guy", I note before walking closer to him, kneeling down to examine him further.
"I know him too."
"Moose," we say in unison.
"Maya, when was the last time you saw him?"
"Uh, I'm not sure? Maybe a few years ago?"
"Exactly. He was never seen again in this show since episode one". My mind flashes back to him in his bright blue hat and tank top as Maya and Riley danced dorkily over to him.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying- well I think, we are in episode one, scene 2", I groan as I stand up fully to face the shorter girl.
"How long ago was that?!"
"You were like 13 I think. Maybe twelve? I'm not sure", I shrug.
"This whole thing is just weird," I sigh.
"Kinda like how moose is sitting on a treasure chest", Maya points out casually.
"How did you- did you just- did our dialogue just advance the plot?"
"Yup?"
I look at her, in disbelief once more.
"Let me guess, that doesn't happen in your world either?"
"No?!?"
"What even is your life", she pats my shoulder sympathetically as if I'm the odd one in this situation.
I pinch the bridge of my nose as I sigh before walking over to Moose.
"A little help", I ask as I bend down, carefully grab his arm, preparing to remove him from the chest safely.
Apparently, Maya had a different idea as she shoved him off, In effect knocking me over as well.
"Darn?!"
I'I'm sure he can't feel that", she shrugs simply.
"I can," I groan as I pick my self up.
"Oh yeah. Whoops ", she grins cockily.
I find myself shaking my head, something I seem to do a lot when it comes to Maya. That, and smiling in my heart at her unintended cuteness.
"So you gonna open it or Nah," Maya asks as she leans her back against mine, casually using me like a wall for her to lean on.
"You open it!"
"No, you!"
"Why me?!"
"You're the girl meets world wizard!"
"That's not even a thing!"
"Well... It is now!"
"Maya stop being a baby and just open the chest," I whine.
"Says the literal whining kid", she scoffs.
"This is your world, Maya!"
"Ya know what? Fine, I will open it just to get you to stop talking. It's not like I'm scared anyway!"
"Fine then", I smirk, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Fine!"
I nod towards the chest, signaling for Maya to hurry up.
I can feel her gather up every bit of bravery she can muster as she kneels down, opening the box to find....
WHAT DO Y'all THINK IS IN THE CHEST??
