There's A Weight On My Ankle
Dedicated to anyone who's struggling and my best friend, here's some words and emotion strung together for you.
There's a weight on my ankle
It's carrying me down
The water is above my head.
And I'm starting to drown
What else can I do
But continue to swim
Fight to the top
And call it a win
Waves upon waves
Wash over my head
I'm kicking and spitting
But my limbs are like lead
I didn't choose this burden
I didn't pick this fight
Some days it's heavy
And some days it's light.
On this day it's dragging
To the bottom of the sea
When I'm at my highest
It pulls down on me.
I push forward and swim
Until I'm at shore
My feet on the sand
The weight no more
I've come to learn something on my journey
I can't say it's good
But I hope it gives you some insight
And makes you feel understood
Some days your weight will feel heavy
Some days it'll pull you deep.
Some days your weight will feel light
Like a breeze by your feet
No matter the weight
No matter the sea
It's okay to sink
It's okay to be.
I'll be there with a life saver
I'll be waiting on land
For if you need me to save you
Or if you just need a hand.
You don't have to be perfect
You don't have to bright
You just have to be you
Even if that means the weight's on tight
