10|Smoke
Flames lap up the wood around me. I can't scream. My lungs are struggling, trying not to breathe in the smoke. I can hear him outside my room, the fireman. All I need is to hold on for another few moments. Between the crushing weight of the dresser pinning my legs down and the severe lack of oxygen, it seems holding on is much harder than I thought it would be.
But he makes it. He and another firefighter lift the dresser off me, and I properly feel the pain in my legs. I want to thank him, but before I can, my lungs fill with something that's foreign and I'm roughly yanked into something just as strange. Darkness.
