Part 5: BOOST!

Turbo followed Penny through GCS, feeling incredibly vulnerable. There were too many characters bustling about, even though it was a considerable amount less than normal.

It was the middle of the day, and Penny's part in the game was already over until the next cutscene, which was quite a ways away. Penny and Maxx had agreed to give Turbo a place to hide, on the condition that he stayed off-screen at all times.

Turbo was more than willing to keep out of their storyline, despite his programming telling him to take over that game too.

He was programmed to be selfish and entitled, and he was programmed to be a protagonist... He couldn't really help being jealous of other games. However, he fought against his coding... At least for now.

Returning to the present, Turbo's nerves alone would have been enough to make him lose a life if it weren't for the fact that Penny wasn't distracting him with her constant jabbering.

"So, Devon!! You never told me your backstory! And why you thought leaving your game was a good idea! What happens when the game gets plugged in somewhere else? They'll be without a villain! Don't you think--!"

     "Penny!!"

Thank GOD they were already there. Turbo was so close to slapping her across the face to get her to shut up, but Maxx calling out to her seemed to have done the trick.

"You took longer than I thought you would, Penny. Did something happen?" Maxx asked worriedly.

"Nope!! We just took our time," Penny giggled.

Turbo looked around the new game. The whole thing was like its own world. There was a long, wide path that ran all the way across the land, and a white building was visible on the edge of the world. He looked at Maxx. "Where will I stay?"

Maxx looked at him with a small smile. "Uncle Vernon has a spare room in the lab. I can get us there no-problem with the warp panels!"

Turbo was incredibly confused. "Who? What? Warp panel??"

Maxx was about to explain when an alert echoed through the world.

"Quarter alert! Characters, get in position!"

Maxx heaved a sigh. "Man, I wanted to show you around... Think you can get there on your own?"

A small, pink, catlike creature approached the group, using its split tails like a propeller. "No worries, I'll show the new guy how to get there."

A warning echoed: "New game created: ALEX. Cutscene imminent. Position: Pre-game lab."

Maxx nodded towards the cat-looking thing. "Well, gotta fly!" He said quickly, "C'mon, Penny!"

In a flash of red, Maxx had grabbed Penny's hand and disappeared, streaking down the path. Turbo looked at the bored-looking creature.

     "Name's Sylvia," it said flatly.

     "Uh... Turb-- AH! Devon!"

Turbo cringed at his mistake. The cat-thing smiled a little. "Let's go then, Devon."
