Chapter Three

"I am going to kill him," Colton promises, glaring up at Vienna. We're in Jonas's office, having just explained the purpose of our bill. Jonas pinches the bridge of his nose.

"We cannot kill a foreign king, brother. It would be an act of war... again." Jonas adds a sigh.

"What, and you don't want to kill him for what he did to Iris?" My husband kisses my neck, leaving his mouth on my skin, breath tickling.

"I want to watch him suffer as the light leaves his eyes." The past me would cringe at the thought of someone dying because of me. The past me wasn't queen of a country obsessed with death. He leans back. "But we still can't." I can almost hear how much Jonas is trying to convince himself.

"As you can see," I direct the conversation back to the issue at hand. "Sexual assault is a problem, and our country has no laws punishing it. Alix is not the only man to hurt someone in this room, and we are definitely not the only women affected." The brothers share a knowing glance. They were both there when I learned Z is a Blackwood. I'm over the betrayal, but I'm not over what else he did. I never will be. Nor will I ever be over all my other stories. Jonas knows of those too.

"We'll write it," Jonas says, letting his brother finish the thought.

"But we can't promise it will pass. Not with..."

"Make it pass," Vienna orders. "Or I will make Abella queen." She looks out the window. "Or maybe my queen."

"The bill won't have any effect in France." He ignores her threat.

"I know that. But if it doesn't pass, I can't promise I won't flee there." Colton rolls his eyes, pulling Vienna into his lap.

"Remind me to marry you." He whispers, although everyone can hear.

"I am literally just waiting for the ring, babe." Jonas clears his throat, reminding the happy couple of our presence.

"Love," Jonas says to me, "Vienna, if you will excuse us, we have a bill to write."
