Here's a little info on the history of the plot if you find yourself interested, otherwise thank you for viewing the memes! And have a good night!

Okay! So, originally the plan was, Henry was going to be the creep of the two, and Tiberius was going to be the kind older man who loved his son but didn't know how to be a father/handle his son being an inherently bad person. But as I got to writing the letter the he sends Y/n, I wanted it to seem like he was scary (while Henry was kinda put to the side/background in the letter so he'd take you more by surprise).

So that kinda got it into my head that maybe Tiberius would be a little more threatening in that role.

It wasn't until literally while I was writing the second chapter when Y/n first meets Tiberius and made silly step away from him did that cement him as the villain. I was tipping between who should be the creep.

I sometimes think about what it would be like if I didn't change it and Tiberius really did take that kind, fatherly role in Y/n's life. I like to think about it some times bc honestly I find that route more interesting. Maybe not for Y/n's involvement aside from wholesome dad moments, but more to explore a the dynamics between this version of Tiberius, Henry, and Polly.

Henry was going to be spoiled brat who was insanely ick, but he was going to be blatantly idiotic in a way that made him believe he could throw money at anything and didn't have to be sly or tactful of anything.

So when Y/n first meets Tiberius, she's expecting the Tiberius we have in canon, but to her surprise he's very warm and welcomes her. Upon seeing she's a little uncomfortable in her surroundings he laughs and lifts his mask off his face, saying something along the lines of 'these parties are always so stuffy., I don't blame you for wanting to cut and run.'
Y/n would look visibly surprised, despite the dragon mask obscuring half her face. 'You would?'
He offers a warm, charming smile from beneath a greying beard. 'Sure I would. I'd be hightailing it out the door right now if it weren't for all these shmoozers up my ass. Each one ready to snap a picture and sell me out to tabloids at the first whiff of unprofessionalism.' He rolls his eyes and lifts a healthy swig of brandy to his lips.

After a little more sad moments, Henry would enter pretty similarly as he did in canon, but make it ✨ew✨

'Y/n! You made it!' A new voice calls as a figure descends the stairs. His eyes hold something uncomfortable under the surface as they remain tracked on you. He swooped down the stairs quickly before going in for a hug. This is where Polly would back up.

You would back away with your forearms out to stop him, he staggers a few paces before you to a confused stop. "Oh? That's not a very friendly way to greet a fellow classmate, Y/n." He chides you like a child, a sly smirk pulls his lips into slowly reforming smile before he tries to go in for another.

Tiberius would then place his hand onto his sons shoulder and redirect his attention. "Ah! So this is Y/n?" He asked. He already knows who you are, he's doing this for your sake.

Henry nodded proudly. "Yes it is! She's quite beautiful despite her apparent upbringing." He boasted, as if you were a freshly groomed pet for him to show off.

Tiberius's eyebrows twitch at this. "Henry that's no way to talk about someone."

'You're not one to lecture me!' He snaps suddenly, erratically, before remembering himself and chuckling as he met your widened eyed. 'Ah but why must we let my father spoil the evening with his old fashioned ideas of social etiquette. Beauty can come from any class!' He proclaims, 'just look at Miss Dent here!' He gestured to Polly, who's frozen under his attention. 'A rare desert flower this one,'

His eyes return to you as quickly as they left as he plucks your hand into his quickly and roughly, like a child with a new toy. 'But you my dear are absolutely exquisite.' He presses three kisses on your knuckles between his words. Chillingly his eyes lift to meet yours, but his hold on you doesn't falter. 'I'm so happy you could make it.'

Tiberius would then embarrass him and try to put you at ease then everything from there would happen the same way in the chapter. This Tiberius would be the one handling the cleanup when Y/n comes to visit for clues.

I love this dynamic, but the issue with this was there would be a lot of Henry in the book instead of Tiberius. Mostly bc they go to school together, so there wouldn't be a super casual way to go about getting y/n to hang with Tiberius without Henry (the one who's gonna be inviting her over since,,, y'know,,,, same uni.)

I could've done it and would enjoy writing it about the same, but it wouldn't flow quite as nicely and the friendship wouldn't fit as well in the narrative imo. It would just make less sense overall.

So yeah, Henry was going to be the one who got killed by Polly and Tiberius was going to be devastated, not just bc that's his son, but bc he was the last thing of Henry's mother he had.

((Quick aside: Henry isn't blood related to Tiberius in any iteration —even canon—, his mom married Tiberius when Henry was 6yrs old, then left when Henry was around 10.))

Overall I am glad with the direction I went but I only barely think this was the right choice. Bc I do love father figures, and something about a father losing his son (even though he knows his son wasn't a good person in any manner of speaking) is far more gut reaching and tragic then a son losing a father at this age. I feel like parents love their children more than the children love the parents (if the parent is a good one...).

Anyway, I hope that didn't mess w your heads too much lol, go back to hating Tiberius and forget about evil ick Henry.
