You woke up to your new alarm clock buzzing and instinctively hopped out of bed. You weren't fully awake so you stumbled around a bit with black fuzzy spots blurring your vision.
Finally orienting yourself, you turn the alarm off while rubbing your eyes. The time on the clock said you were actually up at a reasonable hour considering how late you got home last night. Probably because of the restless sleep you had, constantly thinking about the mission you were somewhat forced into. Get closer to Henry and Tiberius Ashmore and figure out what they were doing with the purple goo... easy
"Time to charm the pants off these motherfuckers." You said groggily as you looked into the mirror hanging on the wall of your little room, seeing your slouched body with the hideously busted up forehead under the matted parting of your greasy hair along with your baggy, sleepless eyes that tied the look together.
"...yup... None can resist me."
Self reassurance is said to help with low self esteem, but it doesn't really help since you're not blind and can see that you're lying. You slowly shuffled to the bathroom and showered, dried your hair and threw it up into a tight bun (that would most likely get the messy effect within two seconds of being out the door), brushed your teeth, and shuffled back to your room, digging around for something clean.
Finally getting yourself dressed you went to the kitchen, grabbed an insulated water bottle and made some tea with almost too much honey. Floyd stepped out of his room, still in his pajamas with a big floof of messy hair atop his head.
It made you wonder when the last his hair had met a brush.
A smile crept up on your slightly more put together face. "Good morning bud." You said returning to your tea. He sleepily rubbed his eyes as he stood next to you, grabbing a mug and filling it with the still heated day old coffee. "What're you doing up so early?" He questioned while pouring a bit of cream in his cup.
You shrugged in response then turned around to him. "Couldn't really sleep."
He nodded and brought the coffee to his lips and looked at you. His eyes traveled to your forehead then visibly widened as he suddenly chocked back the hot brew at the sight of the egg sized purple welt just sitting on your forehead. "Ack! What is that?!" He asked pointing at it extremely horrified.
Your eye lids lower halfway. "I just fell out of bed. It's not a big deal Floyd." You said swatting his hand out of your face. Floyd retracted his hand but his eyes stayed glued on your foreheads bump with a bewildered expression.
A groan left you as you glared at him. He quickly looked away to his hands in front of him. "Sorry..." despite his half witted apology he soon started staring at it once again.
Done with this nonsense you groaned an walked off. "Ugh. Okay bye. I gotta go to class."
He smiled after you. "Erm-You look nice today!" His compliment sounded genuine but you knew he was only saying it to hope you'd forget about his reaction to your butchered forehead.
"Fuck off." You called back at him as you stepped out of the small apartment only to see the same young fucking family that was there before. They were all staring at you, more specifically your forehead making you growl. "What!?" Your voice was sour which made them hurry past holding onto their kids protectively once again.
"Ugh... I am actually the Grinch." You grumbled and made your way down the stairs opposite of the family.
.°.°.°.°.
You huffed as you opened the doors to lecture room. Taking one look around you noticed that you were in fact much earlier then usual, less than a quarter of the class was there. The Prof wasn't even there yet. As you were making your way to your usual spot you stopped and remembered that you should probably sit with Henry again. This happened each time you walked into class, you'd almost make it to your favourite spot right before you remembered to stay in touch with Henry on a deeper level instead just sending him a few texts once and a while. Just to boost your friendship points with this guy and Leo.
You sighed and turned around, scanning over the room for the handsome dude who never kept to a specific seat.
However you didn't have to search for very long though because he actually just called your name from about twenty-some seats over. A smile pulled itself onto your jacked up face. It was nice to associate with someone in class who wasn't the janitor, no offense to the janitor.
You made your way over to him and smiled, you could tell the lump on your head caught his attention by the way his eyes widened ever so slightly at your forehead before his eyes were forced back to your eyes instead to avoid staring, which you appreciated. "Hey dude, how's renovations going?" You asked politely as he moved his books off of the desk next to him.
He shrugged with small tired smile. "Absolutely awful."
You chuckled at this and slid into the seat next to him, and plopping your bag next to your ankles. "Shittyyyy." You groaned in sympathy. "Why's that?"
He hummed and lulled his head towards you in a 'don't-even-get-me-started' type way. "Well for starters, I'm the only one really doing anything about it because my dad went ahead and blamed it on me. He's making me pay for the whole thing, damage to goods, property and person!"
You frowned in confusion. "Person? Are people threatening to sue you for that night?"
Henry groaned and slouched, letting his head rest on the back of his chair. "That and more, some want to throw us in jail! Then of course dad goes and makes me take the heat for it." Your brain began to turn and you decided to worm a bit into this sore spot of his.
"Does your dad do that often?" You asked as casually as you could.
Henry nodded as he looked off. "Yes, all the time. It's like he hides behind me."
Feigning a laugh you spoke. "Maybe he has something to hide." You said through your fake joy while nudging him gently.
A subtle frown crossed his warm features as he looked over at you and straightened up, leaning slightly towards you. "I wouldn't be surprised if he did, he never trusts me with anything." He sighed.
Wow... getting information from this guy was not hard. This almost too easy!
"But I suppose..." he took a moment to ponder before a cool aura settled over him. "...Everyone has something to hide." His surprisingly serious words had sent an unnerving shiver down your back. You tried your best to ignore it.
"Do you?" You asked, trying not to show your small amount of uncomfortable air still lingering around you.
A tug at the corner of his mouth tipped a small grin upon his face made you relax ever so slightly. "I suppose I do." He said with little chuckle.
"Care to share?" You asked with a small grin you had to stretch across your face.
"Maybe another time."
The class passed with you finding small little things about this man but not much too much besides realizing that he was sort of being cryptic about this. You made a mental note of that. You super hoped that what he was hiding wasn't a shifty deal with Leo's family nemesis involving purple goo. It would suck if he was the one orchestrating this whole fiasco since he was sorta cool in his own, rich person way.
After the class day you went straight home, wanting to get the little information you had to the turtles as fast as possible without having to whip out that not-so-subtle turtle phone just to shoot them a text.
As you got inside your small flat you took a look around. Nobody to be seen, and since Floyd didn't emerge from his room immediately after you entered to check who it was, you knew he wasn't home.
You lazily tossed your bag onto the circular kitchen table and pulled out the green monstrosity of a phone and started poking through it, trying to figure out where everything was and how to use it.
Probably the most aggravating part was trying to turn it on. The buttons on the side blended well into the shell aesthetic so you never for sure knew where to press. It must've been a security feature, but the only person it was keeping out was you. You poked and prodded all over the shell back until the screen finally lit up. A smile slid onto your face and you flipped the phone over so you could look at the screen, only for it to turn off again.
Frustration began to flood you as you were getting bested by a prehistoric looking rock that was supposed to pass off as technology!
"Aghh!!" You growled and lifted it up over your head to smash it against the table multiple times. However once you went for the table strike the phone was slipped out of your grip, ending up with just your hands smashing against the hard table. It sent a sudden shock of pain through your body, thanks to your fingers smashing all kinds of wrong ways.
"I don't think Donnie would be too happy with you destroying this." A cool voice spoke with a small tone of amusement laced in this words. You spun around in alarm with your hands pulled close to your body like a Tyrannosaurus Rex trying to swat away flies. You then proceeded to screech in terror like said dinosaur.
"Y/n! It's just me!" Leo cried out against your unsettling vocalization.
Your screech died down as you relaxed, relief in your now softened eyes as you placed a hand over your heart. "Ugh! Leo! What the hell?!" A big, exasperated sigh left you before you placed you hand on you hip. "And why are you here? I'm pretty sure that breaking and entering was against the law." You stated flatly raising a brow.
He shrugged and pressed two buttons at the same time on the back of the turtle phone before handing it back to you. "Just in the neighborhood."
"Right.." You didn't buy that but figured potentially getting into an argument was not something either of you needed.
His eyes landed on your head and he sort of winced at the sight. "Oh wow." Your deadpan expression told him that you'd been getting that a lot today. "Heh, I'm sorry, again, about that." He said said rubbing his arm as his eyes darted everywhere except the large bump, avoiding at all costs.
You sighed and waved your hand in a dismissive way. "Don't worry Leo, it wasn't exactly your fault." You said with a half smile which melted his anxious look to a comfortable smile back before his gaze wondered all around your small apartment.
Leo walked around, inspecting things up and down, casually grabbing an apple off the counter before turning back to you. "So, get anything on the Ashmores?"
With a small sigh you set your turtle phone down then looked at him, crossing your arms and leaning your hip on the table. "Not really, I got that Henry isn't a big fan of his dad, Tiberius and thinks that he might be hiding things from him since he feels like he's not really a part of the Ashmore company and still has to take the fall for anything that goes wrong." A flash of pity went across your face as you looked down a bit. "He really doesn't get treated fairly." Sympathy laced your voice.
Leo put the apple down with a small suspicious frown. "Really... Do you think Tiberius could be dealing with the Shredder?"
You nodded firmly. "So far it's a pretty convincing theory, from what I was told he keeps a lot from Henry, and that goo was found in his estate after all."
He hummed in agreement then set his chin in his hand in thought, as if contemplating it all before speaking again. "Do you think Henry could be behind it too though?" he said looking back to your face.
A small bit of hope left your heart when thinking it over again, not wanting to admit the possibility but figured it would be better for everyone. "...YYeeeah, It's in the realm of possibility. He was really mad with Tiberius and did have this sorta scary moment when I pried a bit and instead of giving me a direct answer he was all like 'eVeRyOnE hAs SeCrEtS.'" Saying it loud made it feel very possible too, which was a shame. Henry seemed like a good dude but you didn't exactly value his friendship more then figuring out the whether he or his dad was actually a super evil person who was trading evil goo with an even eviler Lord Shreddies.
Leo sort of smirked at the mocking tone in your voice then hopped up just enough to sit on your counter. "Is that how he sounded?" he chuckled lightly swinging his taped up legs, making you smile along.
"Not exactly, it was more brooding and mysterious. sounds a bit familiar huh?" You joked nudging his leg with yours as he sat across from you.
He smiled while squinting at you. "I'm not always like that!"
"Oh ho ho, I don't know Leo~" You sang uncrossing your arms. "Is there more to this turtle than stoic mannerisms and experiencing irritation?"
A little grin crossed his face. "There's plenty more to me." He said in a way that almost seemed playful.
"Is that so." You hummed as you let a cockeyed smile lift the mood. "Well care to enlighten me?"
"For starters, I'm the leader of us ninja turtles." He stated proudly. You squinted at him and pushed your eyebrows up with pursed lips. At the sight of your unimpressed, slightly mocking look he continued on. "And I'm a master swordsman."
Your expression didn't change.
This made confusion flash across his face for a moment. "Well, I... uh... I don't know, I guess I'll get back to you on that." He said a bit embarrassed as he scratched the back of his head. You figured it was sorta awkward for him to talk himself up so you made a note that he was also very humble.
A silence passed between the both of you as your mind wandered back to Henry. You figured the only way to keep this conversation alive was to talk work. So without much more thought on what you were going to say you just kinda let it out. "I really hope it isn't Henry though, cause he's sorta chill all things considered."
Leo's eyes darted to you right after you said that, before he frowned lightly. "Yeah, well, you should be cautious around him until we know just who he is. I don't exactly want your death on my conscience just because you weren't careful." He said, rather bitterly.
The sly smile the grew on your face as he said this made the turtle feel a tad frustrated at you not taking this seriously. "Well I'm glad to know you care." You said with half lidded eyes. Leo's face started to turn an odd, slightly warmer shade of green at your words. "W-Well of course I do! Didn't you hear what I just said?"
You tilted your chin up and your eyebrows moved up and down once, but it was enough to make his face turn darker, with a tinge of red to it. The air around him seemed to gain a nervous and irritated feel to it. "This city is my home Y/n. I don't want anyone here to get hurt, so stop that." He protested against your non verbal doubting.
He shook his head and seemed to brush you off with a wave of his three fingered hand along with a dismissive grunt. "Ugh, Nevermind." He said as he got off your counter and made his way to the cheaply made, closed window. He stopped halfway and turned back to you who was watching him go with the same look plastered on your face while tilting you head.
"Y/n, all joking aside, you can't slip up. Not only you will be in danger, but my whole family and the advantage we have on the Shredder not knowing we know about his development of this purple goo." He sighed with a worried expression. "A lot is riding on this so please just be careful."
Your mocking look melted away to slight surprise at his genuinely uncertain words. Understanding his worries, you let out a breath. "Okay Leo, I promise to tread lightly."
A gentle smile broke out across his green face. "Thank you for taking this seriously Y/n."
You gave him a polite nod, however immediately after you both stopped talking you heard keys fiddling with the front door lock.
Panic spiked in your heart as both Leo's and your face dropped in fear you bolted to the window, tugging and pulling for it to open. Of course it didn't, now out of all the times it could. Leo ran next to you and tried to pry it open, but the windows poor design and slight rust made it next to impossible.
Click!
The door was unlocked and about to swing open any second and you knew this wouldn't end well unless you thought of something else. On a whim you straight up body-checked the unsuspecting Leo into your room and slammed the door behind him. Just in the Knick of time too because within the moment of the door closing, your blonde roommate stepped in. You awkwardly leaned against your door, crossing and uncrossing your arms, unsure just how to look natural. Nothing felt natural about this.
Once Floyd saw you standing there, he smiled brightly, tossing his keys up and down. "Tonight's the night buddy! Polly and I are going out to—?" His voice lost its pepper upon getting a good look at you his face turned confused and he trailed off. "Y/n? Are you okay?" He closed the door behind him. "Why are you so out of breath?" He asked as he tossed his keys onto the table, only for them to hit the turtle brick-phone lying on the table too. A frown crossed his face. "And, whose thing is that? Is that a phone?"
The smile you put on was tight and shaking, desperately wanting to switch to an expression of fear. "I-uh, yeah, and its just so funny because I... Um, I just saw it at flea market and I bought.. it??"
"I wouldn't say that's funny." He said as he looked passed you at the window. It was visibly off-kilter, leaning to the right as the small, forced open window gap let in the New York air and constant sound of traffic. He returned his now concerned eyes to you, freezing in place. "Is something going on here?"
Your smile stretched further as your eyes widened in panic. "I-I uh, I don't know I just got home too! Y'know from the... Flea market." By now your body had warmed up tremendously from how atrocious your lie really was.
Floyd's frown deepened as his voice lowered. "Is there someone else here? Are you in danger right now?" He said evenly, staying stock still.
Oh my god, you precious child, How do I get rid of you?
"No! No danger I promise. I just uh..." You subconsciously looked to your bedroom door. The only real danger was the possibility of you forgetting any undergarments on your floor while Leo was in there, probably giving the room a once over.
Floyd's face contorted in confusion, seconds passed until a stark realization poured down on him. His cheeks were ablaze and quickly avoided your eye contact. "Oh... Oh! I-I'm sorry! I didn't know that you had uh.. someone here."
Now you felt like you were about to die. "No! No that's not-" You cut yourself off. This would be a perfect way to make him leave and never talk about this ever again. "I-I, I mean we... we were just going to... uh." You just wanted this to be over without actually having to say anything completely weird. "I didn't think you'd be home this early!" You blurted like a wife caught cheating.
Floyd's face turned so red it was almost mesmerizing, aside from the fact you were in the worst position you'd ever been in in your entire life.
Falling off a building was a preferable alternative to this.
This made him quickly mutter apologies as he walked back out of the door. "I-I'm so sorry! Warn me next time you do this mid-day please!! I-I-I'll Be Back Later!!" He cried out in a flurry and tumbled out the door, slamming it behind him and ran down the hall without his keys.
You stood there for a moment, processing the whole situation before frantically clawing at your doornob and falling into your room. Just as you did Leo had time jump back from the door he probably was pressed against to hear everything that went on. You fell down onto your carpeted floor right before him like a bag of rocks with enhanced gravity.
"AhhgghhHHHAAA!!! This sucks!" You cried out with a warm face, voicing your embarrassment the quickest way possible, hoping Leo could tell that you did not enjoy any of that conversation. "I-I mean, he didn't really um..." He coughed into his fist, puffing out his reddened cheeks. "H-He left very quickly.." He said trying to look on the bright side of this awkward situation.
Leo cleared his throat roughly as you groaned into the floor with your arms wrapped around your head in dispair.
"A-Anyway, keep up the good work... And I'll uh... See you later." He said stepping over you and speeding to the window. "I'll tell everyone about what you told me uh... good work and such." He said as he fiddled with the window a bit before forcibly pushing it up, making the wooden window pane chip slightly from how desperate he was to get out of there.
He escaped and you were still on the ground, ready to cry. But you were a tough bitch so implicated sex wasn't going to hurt your pride... Much... Yes it was... And now you're crying... Ew
••°°••°°••°°••°°••
It's been about an hour before Floyd returned and you still hadn't recovered from that whole debacle. You'd hidden the turtle phone better by keeping it contained to your room and/or bag. Neither you or Floyd said anything about it, instead you both just pretended like it didn't happen and talked about his and Polly's date tonight.
You were glad that he was going out with her, she was pretty cool from what you could tell from each time you actually talked with her.
In fact you both were reminiscing about your previous encounters with her.
"Yeah, she's pretty cool." Floyd gushed happily. "I remember the first time I saw her. I thought she was the hottest door-to-door salesperson I'd ever seen." He hummed through a light chuckle.
You nodded along. "Fair, fair, but I remember thinking 'fuck Floyd, you dumbass!! I don't want her here!'"
Floyd shrugged I'm response. "I was sorta done all that 'avoiding' so that's what you get. Plus we got to go to a fancy party." You rolled your eyes and shook your head.
Yeah, that literally fell apart within the hour by a bunch of mutants for purple goo.
"A fancy party that could've killed us all." You countered.
He just shrugged in response. "Still, it was fun."
You gave him a look that made him smile timidly. "I mean, It was terrifying when I couldn't find you or Polly afterwards." He frowned pointedly at you. "But unlike someone, she was actually looking for me."
It was your turn to be timid as you switched on your lie switch. "I am truly sorry, I was hiding from the caving in roof. It took a good amount of time to get out even with all those firefighters helping to dig us out." You said rubbing the back of your neck.
He shook his head. "Your lying needs work."
But before he could pry any more there was a knock at the door, gaining the attention of both of you. You silently thanked the person behind the door.
The blonde man walked to the door, opening it and instantly lighting up. "Polly!" He cheered excitedly.
Ha! Sweet. Thanks Polly!
"Hi Floyd!" She said back with the same amount of joy. It was adorable really.
"Ready for our date?" She asked sweetly. Floyd nodded happily and stepped to the side letting her in, giving you a good look at her well fitted, knee-length maroon dress and her long blonde hair put in a tight bun.
"Yeah! Just let me grab something then we'll be good to go." As he walked off to his room Polly's chocolate brown eyes landed on you as she played with her gold necklace.
"Hey Y/n." She greeted kindly.
"Hi Polly." You said, noticing her fidgeting immediately. "Nervous?" You questioned with a slight grin.
Polly gave you a shy smile before tugging on her oddly large purses' strap. "Heh, Yeah. Is it obvious?"
You grinned lazily. "I mean yeah, but Floyd won't notice. He's naturally oblivious, and add on how excited he is, it'll be a miracle if he realizes what he's looking for is right here." You said pointing at the flowers in the vase at the table you were sitting at.
Polly's eyes widened at the arrangement of lilly's, pale roses and baby's breath sitting in the water. She laughed at the situation and seemed to relax ever so slightly. "Ahh, he's so cute." She said shaking her head and pulling up a chair next to you.
You nodded along with her. "Yeah, he is really excited about this date. He hasn't shut up about you since he got home, saying how kind and beautiful you are. He really likes to talk about that blue dress with that huge embarrassing 'A' on it."
Polly chuckled and smiled at her hands. "Yeah, that wasn't exactly the best look of mine I'll admit."
You shook your head. "No no! He loved it. He said that even if it was based off a logo, you pulled it off."
The tall thin woman laughed again. "He's quite the guy, I've got to say." She suddenly looked concerned as she met your eyes with her own. "Oh! Speaking of the ball, what the hell happened to you?" She asked with questioning eyes. "Floyd told me that you were hallucinating or something."
You tilted your head and asked before thinking. "What do you mean?" But you immediately realized he probably told her about your episodes with giant mutant turtles.
"He said that you came home looking like you'd just got hit by a truck, talking about big turtle men." She said, concern and uneasiness lacing her voice as she placed her hand on your shoulder. "I was really worried. Floyd says you're okay now, but I just want to make sure you're all good."
This took you by surprise as you quickly tried to compose yourself. "Yes, I'm alright. Thank you for your concern."
"Are you sure? Were you hallucinating because of the ceiling caving in? Because there were a few people that attended the party that are saying that they suffered a lot of trauma and I guess are having flashbacks." She said, searching your face.
You simply shook your head. "Uh, no. No flashbacks."
"Are you absolutely sure you're okay Y/n?" She continued, sounding genuinely worried about your mental health.
You sighed, tired of having to repeat yourself. "Yes, I'm sure. It was simply just a prank I created for Floyd, albeit, not a very good one." You said with a timid shrug and grin. "It wasn't exactly something I should've done."
Polly nodded thoughtfully. "Well, I have to say that's a relief. I was scared you were going crazy or something." She said with a relived breath.
You thought back to just over an hour ago when you and Leo lived through that nightmare of Floyd assuming things. At that point you were pretty sure that going crazy was definitely an option for you.
A light laugh pulled from your lips as you shook your head. "No, as much as I think I could be, I'm not."
Polly nodded slowly just as Floyd came out of his room looking frantic. "Okay Polly, I'll be ready soon I promise. I just have to remember where the hell I put the them." He mumbled the last part to himself.
The tall women smiled kindly and picked up the flowers from the vase, wrapping the bottom of the flowers in paper towel. "Well I think they're just lovely." She said smelling the flowers.
He froze for a moment and turned to her, only to see both you and Polly smiling at him. However your smile was rooted a lot more in mocking him than hers.
"Oh... Erm.. yeah those are for you." He said scratching his chin awkwardly until he snapped out of it with a grin. "I'm really glad you like them." He said walking towards her.
Polly chuckled and held them in both hands "I love them." She said and kissed his cheek.
You began to make barfing sounds, what with you being single and whatnot. "Get outta here before you guys make me throw up!" You joked, but like, at the same time was not joking.
"Alright, alright. See you later Y/n." He said as he and Polly shuffled their way out together. "Bye Y/n! It was nice chatting with you." She said as they both left. "Bye guys!" You called back.
With that they closed the door behind them and left you in you now empty feeling flat alone.
And being alone gave you the motivation to get some more leeway on this shady Ashmore business with the purple goo. So you pulled out your phone and texted Henry.

You smiled successfully and pocketed your phone. At this time tomorrow you'd be soaking up all the information you could on the Ashmores business and business partners.
You couldn't help but think about Leo's words of warning though. You didn't know Henry that well, and if he was in fact the orchestrater of the trades with The Shredder you could potentially land yourself into a whole lot of trouble.
With that dark cloud hanging over you, you figured it would be best to let Leo know about the meeting with Henry tomorrow.
Just the thought of Leo knowing made feel safer, not by much but safer. That's all you could hope for.
