Chapter 7
Taehyung's POV
“She is here, Lee,” one of the younglings says. “We found her like thirty minutes ago.”
Lee approaches the corpse and her scent strikes me like a bullet fired at a close distance. The wind blows from behind her, shifting her hair away from her face. The girl smells... not horrible but wrong. At least not after I smelled the teenager’s corpse. When I met Lee earlier, I stopped breathing before her scent could hit me with its full capacity. I stopped breathing as soon as I smelled the blood.
I narrow my eyes, watching when Lee crouches next to the body and sighs. Her gaze softens, and she pushes her lips together. Is she feeling sorry for this girl?
Lee inhales sharply and frowns. Yeah, I know. That smell will burn anyone's nostrils. She looks at the girls more attentively and then glances around. Her hair shines a little every time the moon‘s light casts upon her. Weird.
She stands and picks up a small tree branch and pokes around the body. “Has the police been informed?”
None of the hunters with her can be called men. I am not even sure if I should address them as hunters. Not in the full meaning of the word. These are boys, and apparently Lee knows it as well. She looks over her shoulder when the two guys share a nervous glance, trying to figure out who will give her the news.
“Not yet. We wanted to let Seok-Jin know first, before the cops came here.”
“Seok-Jin knows,” Lee says, and I realize her voice is heavier than before. As if she is tired.
I saw her not even six hours ago. A bloodied mess, but it did strike me how different she looks. I have seen my share of beautiful woman, and I have seen my share of supernatural beings, which leads me to believe if Lee may not have any human blood on her. It’s the only reason for someone who is the same species as her to look like that. Maybe she has some siren blood on her... it wouldn’t surprise me. Hunters pretty much fornicate anything with legs and a hole.
Disgusting things.
Lee seems visibly shaken by the dead body in front of her. Weird. I brush it away when she begins to walk around the girl. She leans closer, searching for injuries and when she sniffs over the corpse, I realize her senses may be better than I granted her. She is a descendant of the moon as well. The power kernel in her may be strong enough to grant her some hunter abilities.
Fucking hell. Like I said, I have zero luck. Leave it to me to come here the only time a woman is born into the hunter world. Even if she isn’t a hunter herself, she has enhanced senses. This is why I didn’t want to come into this town. I knew it was infested. It has been ever since we know of it. My father had fought here with hunters before. I don’t get the fascination with coming back here to get their asses kicked and walk away with their tails between their legs. This is not our territory. We don’t know it well enough- is that why Namjoon is trying to come back?
All the records say the Kim family only breeds male hunters as all the other families with their type of blood do. How Lee came upon this world beats me.
She suddenly stops. “Her phone?” Lee asks and both boys’ scowl.
They are boys. In every meaning of the word. I know the Legion makes the younger ones patrol to force them to learn how to be alert and being their training. I have been studying about them as much as possible ever since I came of age. Father said it could come in handy one day. He said he never found any other hunter group as well prepared as them. After my father died, I kept a watchful eye about anything regarding the Kim’s. I don’t like to be caught off guard.
“Her phone?” The blonde boy repeats the question.
“Yes,” Lee replies, as if it is not obvious what she means. “She is seventeen-”
“How do you know her age?”
“I know her brother,” the woman says right away, cutting the younglings off. She is feisty and bossy, I will give her that. This one knows how to stand her ground.
“But what does that have to do with her phone?”
Lee sighs and I wonder how are these two alive still. The woman brushes a hand over her face, clearly done with the interrogatory. “Kevin, I know the sun was shining away from your house when you were born, but tell me what seventeen-year-old girl doesn’t have a phone with her at all times?”
None of the boy’s reply. Not Kevin and not the blonde one. I brush away the smirk, trying to make its way into my lips. Because Lee sure as hell has a temper. The boys glance at each other again. Kevin’s brows go up as if telling the blonde one he has no idea where the phone is. Of course, he doesn’t. It is currently tucked away in my pocket so I can find out more about the dead girl and what killed her.
“Ma’am, with all due respect, we didn’t see a phone,” the blonde one tries and I wince as he speaks.
Ma’am. Fucking hell, these two have a death wish. Sometimes I stumble upon people who make me wonder how stupid can they be. Then I realize the answer is not something worth knowing and I walk away.
“Jeremy,” Lee tries with a smile on her face. It is nothing short of deadly, and both Jeremy and Kevin visibly gulp. “Did you even search the perimeter when you found her?”
Ma’am is what you call to a woman over forty. I don’t think Buffy the Vampire Slayer down there is any day over thirty. Her brother is around fifty, if my math is correct. I know more about Seok-Jins’ father than the Legion leather. Before my dad passed away, Jin was still young, and he was an only child. Lee is another mystery.
There is not much about her out there. I don’t even know how old she is. There is no birth certificate since she probably was born at home and kept hidden. A woman born into a family like hers... not a good outcome. The females around here are usually are nothing but an incubator. I am pretty sure Lee has her days marked and is already promised to someone.
Typical
Not that my species tries any harder. We fuck around with whoever appears first. Take Yoongi for example. That mans to do list is bigger than the China wall.
But she is still too much of a mystery. I only found out about her last year.
“We did not have time,” Jeremy adds, annoyance clear in his voice. “We went to try to find Jin-”
“Seok-Jin,” Lee corrects him and I can see her patience getting thinner. The boys blink at her as if she is making no sense. Lee takes a step forward. “Never talk about him as if he is your friend. You got me? He is your leader. He is the person who will ever have your back, but he is also the one in charge of both your safety and life. So unless he says you can drop the honorifics and talk about him as if he is your bro, you don’t.”
Lee makes a motion to begin walking away from the body and into the trees when one of the boys mumbles something under his breath so low I barely catch it. She freezes, looks over her shoulder and adds. “Call me a cunt again and I will show you just how worthy of being here I am.”
A smirk makes its way to my lips as I watch both boys’ body turn cold. Their scent even shifts and I am almost positive one of them almost peed himself. At least some urine leaked even if a drop. They are scared of her. She also has good hearing, and that is a little more on the hunter's side. But she isn’t a hunter... she couldn’t be. They do not allow women in that forsaken place. She must be Jin’s informant. His eyes and ears, but she sure as hell is not a hunter.
Kevin and Jeremy walk away and Lee turns her attention to the corpse once more.
She stops with her back the me and lifts her face to the sky. The moon shines against her and I take in the woman. Short. About 5’3. She clearly works out and is in shape if her legs are any hint about it. Lee rolls her shoulders back and I prepare myself for her to scream in frustration but she doesn’t.
